Guerlain has launched their annual limited edition version of Muguet:
It's more than a simple tradition—it's an event! Each year Guerlain invites you to welcome the lovely month of May with a numbered limited edition of Muguet. For the 2013 edition, Guerlain has invited Créanog House, a Parisian studio specializing in paper sculptures, to explore the breadth of its talents by embellishing the emblematic "quadrilobé" bottle.
Their efforts have brought the delicate stems of Muguet (Lily of the Valley) to life: their enchanting bells bloom and cast their spell in this lavish, immaculate white paper engraving. Created by a "Maitre d'Art", a craftsman honored with the lifelong title of distinction for preserving rare expertise, this masterpiece of detailing and artistic finesse truly makes this prestigious and exclusive springtime charm sparkle.
A fresh floral fragrance: a sublimated lily of the valley note, infused with bergamot, jasmine and rose accents which ushers in the springtime with elegance.
Guerlain Muguet 2013 is available now at Neiman Marcus in 60 ml Eau de Toilette, $575.

Another annual tradition of extraordinary cost for a relatively commonly executed note.
Perfume is not wine, it is not expected to age with unique characteristics each year depending on that year’s weather. So why a new super priced vintage each year/
Dilana, they used to vary the composition each year. Not sure if that happens anymore but I think the variation in the design is of interest and probably one is not expected to collect the whole set (altho I’m sure some do), rather find one that speaks to them and enjoy it. Last year’s Gripoix glasswork was very pretty.
I have smelled one or two and agree that they are very pretty. However, they hype them as representing not varied compositions but unique harvests which supposedly justifies the prices. And yes, Guerlain’s representatives suggest that connoisseurs will purchase each year’s Muget as it comes out, rather like some Wine stores used to notify their customers of the exact day on which it t was time to acquire a case of this year’s beaujolais.
It is this sort of hype which I was deploring. Like Helenviolette (my what a pretty name,) if the price were not so outrageous, I’d be interested in.
O.O that’s funny, I haven’t had them represented to me as harvests, which is a good thing since muguet is a construction. My Guerlain boutique rep never even knows if the new “vintage” is a new composition, just knows the details on the craftmanship of the presentation.
I do think Muguet smells exceptional when compared to the other “exclusifs,” but maybe that reflects poorly on the price/exclusivity of the exclusifs rather than the quality of Guerlain’s version of LOTV.
You know, their speil is so good, I totally forgot that the “muget” note is in no way derived from actual Lily of the Valley florets.
It made more sense when it was really a limited “May Day” release.
Such a beautiful bottle. If this were half the price, I would consider it (even thought that would still be an outrageous amount!)- but alas…
It is very pretty!
I just bought a new FB or VC&A Muguet Blanc for $32.00. That will be quite enough lily of the valley for me.
Wow, score!
Beautiful bottle.
Yep.
Went to N-M’s site so I could zoom on the bottle. Guerlain also offers a (different) empty atomizer for $220!
Has anyone tried this or older versions of Muguet…impressions?
As stated before, I have sniffed. They do tend to be lovely Muget soliflores and if it ever is your goal to pay ultra luxurious prices as a matter of principle, you will end up smelling lovely.
^^^^ refuses to pay that price…not even the bottle tempts me.
Lots of other nice Muguet fragrances out there, just as nice and much cheaper.
Caron’s Muguet du Bonheur is lovely and well-priced.
