In honor of spring (finally!!) I'm wearing the late great Jacinthe des Bois from L'Artisan Parfumeur. How about you?

SOTD–Equistrius, though I started off sampling Iced White from ADozen Roses which was promptly washed off.
I’m wearing Equistrius, too! I love it. The weather here is weird, hot today, with a cool front headed through, and turning rainy. This one for its horsey name smells nothing of leather or horses to me 😀 It’s more powdery iris, rice and ambrette. (I do not get the cocoa note others report) Very much a comfort scent for me. Hope your second SOTD is working much better for you. Be well.
equistrius is a very elegant and polished scent to me – always reminds me of red velvet
We seemed to have skipped spring and jumped right into summer-it’s 80 degrees here in southwest Ohio. I’m wearing Soivohle’s Violets & Rainwater. If Liz ever discontinues this, not sure what I’ll do.
SOTD: wearing Divine L’Ame Soeur to see if I want to keep it or swap it in the next Swap Meet. I really, really want to love it (love the name), but I think it is just *too* sweet for me.
Robin, I just discovered a little decant of one of your favorites, Guerlain Vetiver (and this is some really old stuff) that I doctored up about a year ago with extra rose, jasmine and ylang ylang and then forgot about it. I must say, to my nose, it smells great! I’m proud of myself.
I like L’Ame Soeur a lot. It is very sweet but wins me over in the end.
Sorry to report that it’s not winning me… 🙁
I seem to amp sweet.
I struggled a lot for the SOTD. I feel like I need a bright but creamy floral and nothing seems right – is this a gap in my perfume wardrobe I sense…? Credit card looks worried and slowly backs away…
For the time being, making do with Cuir de Lancôme on both wrists.
I am wearing Cuir de Lancôme today! Isn’t it wonderful?
I have grown to like it more and more – it was an unsniffed purchase and I was initially rather taken aback by how EXACTLY like my mother’s handbag it smells. Now it is clearly one of my “perfume-wardrobe-gap-fillers”!
Bright, creamy, and with the added bonus of some green on top, is Chamade. Gawgeous for spring! How’s my enabling?? I’m out of practice. 😉
I think you have done very well! I have not smelt Chamade but intend to visit some shops on the weekend – will try to stop by a Guerlain counter. Has Chamade survived the reformulations well?
I have some vintage and some new-ish Chamade (both parfum), and the differences are slight enough that I would definitely say Chamade survived the reformulations. I don’t mind the new L’Heure Bleue either.
hee heee. Poor credit card knows that no doesn’t always mean no.
A few polls ago, I was feeling very smug that there was nothing that I needed to buy…
I think this perfume buying disease is a bit like malaria. It goes dormant for a time and then comes back. While you are at Guerlain, check out Jicky too.
Ha! Love that analogy! (Although it makes me think I need some quinine. . .) 😀
Diptyque L’Eau de Tarocco here — one of my favorites. I’m on my second bottle. Great orange-saffron cologne with a hint of rose.
You’re lucky to have some of that Jacinthe, though I did enjoy the recent Tom Ford Jacinthe as well. And it looks like you’re getting some really warm weather today!
I have nearly a full bottle — I stocked up, just before I gave up the whole idea of hoarding. And luckily it has held up well.
It’s gorgeous here — more like summer than spring. Had to break out the sandals.
Spring, what spring? Still feels Arctic here *sigh*
I’m re-testing 1932 today and it’s not really doing anything for me.
Yesterday was L’Eau d’Hiver and I think I might have freaked out over nothing so I’m tentatively relieved.
Oh, sorry!! Hate to gloat so won’t tell you the temp here.
Enjoy it, we all know how you feel about the cold 😀
So glad about L’Eau d’Hiver!
Thanks! So am I.
Me three! L’eau d’Hiver might be my first FB finished, and I will likely “need” a new bottle soon!
Wow, that’s impressive! How much did you manage to get through so far?
I bought a gently-used (maybe 80% full?) bottle off of ebay last year. I only have a few mL left of the original 50mL bottle.
SOTD is Nuit d’Amour.
SOTD YSL Paris…I actually sang “April in Paris” in my head this morning as I was over spraying.
It’s a gorgeous, warm day so I decided to go with SL’s A La Nuit.
Yesterday my office was sweltering and I was lamenting wearing Fumerie Turque. Today it is cold and I am wearing Anisia Bella. Oh well.
Jacinthe sounds covetable. Still testing Carnal Flower sample…yep, looks like love.
Through the day: DK Gold – this morning
Body Shop White Gardenia,
White Musk Libertine – tried both of these at the shop earlier
Mugler: Pure Havane, – later on with
Encre Noir – paired quite nicely –
and finally:
Chergui (which put an end to all my restlessness!)
Good day!!
It’s a Lipstick Rose kind of day.
Hard to go wrong with that one!
Wearing my very favorite find from last summer: L’eau de Courrèges.
Cabochard eau de toilette. Perfect for this warm NYC day.
For me, it was Patricia Nicolai’s Temps d’une Fete (love and first sniff) and yesterday F. Malle’s En Passant. so much for flowers 🙂
Hah, Perfume Twin, I greet you! I, too, am wearing Le Temps d’une fete right now – I just bought a bottle. And I’ve been wearing En Passant as well, it is lovely for spring. Not that spring has made an appearance in this part of the world, but I just pretend it’s here. En Passant helps.
(And SOTM was Iris Silver Mist, but I’m putting it in brackets, in case you don’t like this one 🙂
oh hi! I, too, see a bottle of Temp d’une fete in my immediate future.
Sending some spring your way 🙂
I have yet to sample Silver Mist, our paths have not crossed so far 😉
I’m wearing drab grey & black on a bright spring day, so to keep with the incongruity, a little Armani Code EDP. It’s a ludicrous scent, but I really like it, so there!
Spring? What, where, when? It still didn’t arrive here. Actually it was snowing and raining today.
I’m wearing L’Artisan Parfumeur Caligna for a try.
It is inching its way to spring here in London! SOD? First,Byredo’s Inflorescence and then DelRae’s Debut! Got a lily iof the valley thing going. Hope springs eternal!
We’ve had lots of spring in Denver but today is snowing again, SIGH.
Testing two samples sent by a friend: Montana Parfum d’Elle on one wrist (went from fruity-powdery Joy type thing to gingerbread tobacco) and Sinan Lune on the other (classic green rose chypre like a stripped down L’Arte di Gucci).
I recently discovered the Sinan, and you’ve nailed it exactly!
SOTD – my very cheap thrill Florida Water! I typically save it for my beachy vacations but threw it on today! Unfortunately, it doesn’t have much staying power so at 3:49 it’s been long gone. I put on Omnia Madera at 2.
Marni this AM from the newly arrived decants but it’s so warm here, nearly all traces of it have already evaporated. Wondering about what I could spritz on now that wouldn’t suffocate the yoga class I have in a couple hours… Hm!
Go on, suffocate them, I dare you! lol.
Hahaha, love the encouragement–I often feel a bit of an impish desire to go ahead and wear whatever I want, as the studio certainly embraces fragrance in other forms (incense, oils, etc.), and chauvinism about which are legit doesn’t seem very yogic to me! 😉
You see, its a matter of justice!
How to get enough space in a crowded class: musc kublai Khan.
Oh, that’s just cruel!
HA! Devious, I like it!
A very good point! Often surprises me that the most scent-phobic people I know also constantly burn incense and candles–both well-established as sources of indoor air pollution. Not that it stops me from burning them, mind you, I just wince at the hypocrisy.
Yes, it’s the weirdly anti-perfume people that seem strange to me in their enthusiasm for incense and such! But you def have the pro-fragrance cred to indulge in perfectly good faith! 🙂
That would be an excellent poll idea: what fragrance to wear to yoga. The ideal scent would stay a little closer to the skin and *not* be a sillage monster. I like dabbing SSS Incense Pure or Sienna Musk when I go to class (and SSS Egyptian Musk, before it was discontinued :-().
Great idea, I would love to hear what everyone else wears!
What kind of yoga do you do? I haven’t been bold enough to try anything with legit musk, as the room gets pretty hot (it’s vinyasa class rather than bikram, so the room’s not heated on purpose, but as it fills up/people start moving, it gets pretty steamy pretty fast) and I worry about musk blooming really big. I’ve mostly worn some very light, wallpaper scent kinds of things, often with some citrus–the ones I’ve got on hand are Versace Versense and last year’s Burberry Brit summer flanker. Just enough to perk me up when I start to wilt! Now I’m curious to smell those SSS fragrances though, I haven’t gotten to them yet.
My yoga teacher was pretty down on any scents at all even when I was just using a teeny bit of real sandalwood oil. But I do love to test my new perfumes at the gym, as it is crowded and chaotic and easy to get away with a scent. I sure find out fast, after 30 minutes on a stairmaster if this perfume is a keeper. Most just fade after a while, but today I wore Mona di Orio Les Nombres d’Or Vanille. It smelled Excellent throughout my work out and I could still put nose to wrist on my way home to enjoy it.
That is some staying power!!
My flatmate warned me away from bikram yoga as the class is VERY popular and there is a marked absence of deodorants (let alone perfume). I suspect she feared I might try to fumigate with Eau d’Orange Verte.
Hahaha yes Eau d’Orange Verte would be just the thing! 😉
Ack they can get really sanctimonious at Bikram yoga. One teacher went on a rant about someone who came to class and only drank coke (instead of water), an dhe said he asked that person to leave. Made me want to come to class with vodka in my sippy cup.
Oh Sanjini, that’s terrible! The only yoga classes I’ve attended were Iyengar Yoga, and I found the instructors to be very openminded and accepting–just like the practice, a sense that each has to do what feels right for themselves. OTOH, it was before I became a perfumista, so maybe I would have encountered some push-back?
Sajini, isn’t it just totally nuts. I’ve even seen someone be given a hard time for drinking water!! I understand maybe cautioning someone to sip slowly, so they don’t get an upset stomach, but this was someone asking permission to drink any water at all and being told she should really try to wait until after class. It kinda blew my mind–if someone feels s/he needs water now, s/he should definitely get it! So antithetical to why I’m even doing yoga in the first place. I’ll join you with the vodka 😉
Meanwhile Marjorie I’m interested to hear you had a positive experience at Iyengar. They have a center not too too far from me, sounds like it’d be worth checking out.
CH, from what I understand, the focus in Iyengar Yoga is proper form and careful awareness of your body’s limits. They encourage a lot of use of bolsters, straps and such to facilitate good alignment. There’s also some discussion of how different forms may assist with various health concerns–so a more holistic practice than some of the exercise-focused classes I’ve heard about. I had very positive experiences with the classes I took.
Oh, super good to know. I’d heard it’s very serious yoga, which I think I’d assumed meant “really hard”, but if it meant “really serious about doing things properly and at an appropriate level”, I’d be into that! Thanks for the rec!
I put the teeniest dab of oil on my wrist, so as not to offend anyone. The whiff of scent I get when going through my sun salutations is so energizing and also strangely peaceful.
To answer your question, C.H., I like to mix up my yoga: a little bit of vinyasa flow mixed in with some of the more basic classes, which tend to be taught by master teachers who preach proper alignment and guide the class through the movements more slowly (though I don’t sweat any less, interestingly enough). I tried bikram once, but it wasn’t really my thing.
Yeah, sometimes slow can be even harder! Good to know that just a little dab doesn’t get too diffusive even when you’re sweating, that’s mostly what I was curious about. I TOTALLY agree that getting a little whiff is both energizing and calming. It’s pretty great stuff, perfume 😉
How about which fragrance NOT to wear to yoga? Violet Blonde is one of the ‘less meditative’ fumes – I think it would be fabulous:)
Oh you really are a troublemaker!! Violet Blonde in my cupboard, and tonight’s class IS with the dude instructor who once gave me a hard time for my lipstick (‘don’t worry about how you look in yoga–unless you have makeup on, in which case, feel ashamed!’) I think he might be asking for it 🙂
I fully concur. And I would use fake eyelashes too.
And a stick-on beauty mark and some glitter. What an unclassy remark.
What a cruddy thing to say! I love Guerlain AA Mandarine Basilic for all kinds of workouts. Not overpowering at all (I think…) and it gives me a lift. I also like Hermes Un Jardin Apres la Mousson, though that might be more offensive with the spices and melon. Makes me feel good though! I mostly play tennis though, and am a little farther away from people than a crowded yoga class. I once tested Patou 1000 and then played tennis and I felt really, really odd. That’s one heck of a NOT workout perfume!
Ah, thank you all for the support (it’s a bummer when your yoga teacher suggests you have bad values!) I should say, that’s me paraphrasing what I felt like the underlying message was; he didn’t say “be ashamed” quite so explicitly, just a sarcastic remark and an eyeroll about the lipstick (though that’s probably sufficiently shaming!)
I just turn a little defiant when I get the hard sell about the practice of being true to yourself and your experience, then it turns into “so long as your true self is a hippie Earth Mother; if your true self likes lipstick and heels, we’ll judge you.” Anyway, I showed him–I passed both Blue Mercury and Barney’s Co-op on my way home to change, so by the time I got to class, I had on Tokyo Milk Bittersweet, Serge Chypre Rouge and Serge Jeux de Peau. Hahaha.
(Meanwhile Mandarine Basilic is such a great idea! Will have to give that a shot. Laughing about 1000!!)
Everyone has such creative responses for your perfume/yoga dilemma. All winners in my book! 😉
Oh, and SL Chypre Rouge was an absolute scrubber for me when I tried it a few years ago…..serves him right! Hehe.
This reminds me of a book I’v seen but not yet read –
‘The Authenticity Hoax: How We Get Lost Finding Ourselves’
by Andrew Potter.
Bookgirl, super interesting to hear your take on Chypre Rouge–you confirm my suspicion I might be anosmic to something in it. I saw Robin reviewed it as very sweet, and I couldn’t detect any sweetness at all (and usually I really don’t care for sweet scents); it just smelled pleasantly salty to me, actually. Hahaha so we can only imagine what it smelled like to him!
Merlin, wow great title! I’ll have to check it out.
Or Angel.
There is a personal trainer who’s based at my gym and that’s what she wears. I don’t mind Angel but there’s a time and a place and the gym is not it!
I avoid perfume altogether and stick to scented body lotions because they stay close to skin.
Hahaha Angel in the gym is intense. But then I should admit I do find it intense most places!
Yoga teacher/perfumista here! At home wear whatever scents make you enjoy practicing, no matter how loud or incongruous. I do that all the time. But to go to class, please don’t wear any fragrance. Some people in the class may be allergic to scent. But even if that’s not a problem, in a closed room crowded with people who are heating up and maybe even sweating, I think it’s polite to refrain. Or at least make sure that what you’re wearing has no sillage. And that’s my mini rant for the day.
SuddenlyInexplicably, I really appreciate your sensitivity to different people’s needs–I’d actually be so happy to have a complete fragrance ceasefire at my studio, as the incense totally does irritate my eyes/throat.
(I’m doing all this complaining about my studio today–I should say, the asana practice is great, I love it and I get so much out of it. It’s just some of the peripheral stuff I’m not so into!)
No sillage, I completely understand/agree!
A dab of my recently found vintage Diorissimo parfum, for studying. Not totally enchanted. Might offer it up at a swap so it’ll go to a better home.
Here in southern Texas, the heat has been on for a bit, though we probably won’t hit the 90’s until May. The grass is always greener, isn’t it? I wish I could still wear my coat outside.
I’m not a fan of Diorissimo either even though some people think it’s the bbe’s knees. I used to love Coty Muguet des bois when I was a little girl. That was a really pretty lily of the valley. I would put on Muguet and my mom would put on Emeraude.
Zara matin finally, smells like shower & soap 😀
I tried many fragrances in my last visit including the new vaelntino aqua floreale & guess girl 😉
I got no money though I just bought some clothing from zara along with matin from their fragrance range.
SOTD: Sexual Pour Homme (Michel Germain)
I must say that I do like this stuff, the problem is that is lasts maybe an hour tops.
I fear a name like that would be too embarrassing for me to try. Probably no more fair than folks who buy a perfume just because they like the name, but there it is! Good for you for being more openminded than me! 🙂
In case it helps, I’ll say that I sometimes get a bit of perverse joy out of wearing perfume with a saucy name; I frequently get pegged as Not The Type, and it’s kind of fun to scandalize people! It’s like when I get asked about my profession at customs/immigration; sexuality isn’t my only research topic but it’s always the one I mention, just for the fun of watching imperious immigration agents dissolve into a puddle of awkward squirming. I highly recommend it 🙂
Oh, that *does* sound like fun! Can we hang out some time? 😉
Yes please! 🙂
Can anyone recommend an egyptian musk oil? I used to love and wear SSS Egyptian Musk oil before it was discontinued. I used to also wear Kiehl’s.
Any help would be most welcome and appreciated! 🙂
So weird you should mention Kiehl’s as I bought a bottle today. It sure is strong!! It is not considered Egyptian, but I love Bruno Acampora Musc. It is one of the few perfumes I can wear working because it stays very close to the skin.
I’ve been meaning to try that Bruno Acampora Musc!
I know that Robin (our hostess) likes the Egyptian musk from the Berkeley, CA shop Body Time (I’m sure you can order it online).
Thanks for the rec! I’ll check it out.
I do, and it’s cheap! If it turns out not to suit you, I know many people used to love Auric Blends Egyptian Goddess.
I just got some samples from Luckyscent that arrived yesterday, and I’m wearing one of those: Tauer’s Carillon pour un Ange. Not sure if I like it. I got it because I really hadn’t tried any lily of the valley scents. The scent itself is nice, but I think there is something in it that irritates my nose a little. I’m not sure if it’s that by itself or it’s just exacerbating the effects of pollen and stuff in the air.
It had the same effect on me… and I really really wanted to like that one! Ah well, Tauers and I will have to remain on the acquaintance only level for now.
So far CpuA is the only one of the Tauers that does that to me. I’m wearing Zeta today and it’s just fine. The only other perfume I’ve encountered that has had that effect is Givenchy Organza.
INFLORESCENCE by Byredo…it smells amazing 🙂
No spring here 🙁 Lots of snow on the ground and more on its way. Seriously, I want to cry.
I’m wearing Bottega Veneta. I bought it last summer, so it reminds me of warm weather, but it’s sweet, round and heavy enough that it feels appropriate for November, er, I mean APRIL.
Tested A Lab on Fire What We Do In Paris Is Secret this morning. A nice skin scent, but not for me. So, SOTAfternoon is 31 Rue Cambon, which I am obviously liking a lot because my sample is almost gone. Hmm. Now I have to decide if I want to try a decant next or spring for a FB. Decisions, decisions. :).
I just love that name (What We Do…) I haven’t tried the scent yet as the notes aren’t my thing and I’m afraid I’ll be so disappointed when it doesn’t work out– I’m totally charmed by the weird, protracted name!
Me too! Actually, that is part of the reason I tried it, plus so many nice comments about it in the perfumeverse. The notes weren’t really up my alley either, but I didn’t hate it. Nice enough. Sweet, but the rose and bergamot livened it up some. Ultimately a skin scent on me though, which is not something I want right now. I will likely give it another try, but I think it will go in the “not for me” pile.
Oh, that’s somewhat encouraging! I saw all that foody stuff and I think just assumed the rose and bergamot totally got lost. Hm okay maybe I should go ahead and try it after all. I could do a skin scent, perhaps, and maybe thinking of it that way will keep my expectations in check? Hahaha the perfume rationalizations…
I’m wearing Diptyque Volutes, love the honey tobacco..
I have a sample of this coming soon. Can’t wait to try it. Sounds lovely.
SOTD: SSS Nostalgie all over with a dab of Mitsouko on my wrist.
Yoga perfume: Kuumba Made’s Oriental Musk or Pacifica’s Mountain Temple.
Oh cool–I haven’t tried either, I’ll put ’em on the list! Thanks!
SOTD is Frederic Malle En Passent.
Can’t miss with that 🙂
I am also in L’Artisan: L’Eau de L’Artisan.
It’s warm and humid here today, Texas’s attempt to lull us into a false sense of security before the storms with hail hit tonight and it gets cold and rainy tomorrow. Sigh. I’m wearing Jo Malone’s Verbenas of Provence, which I quite like. Lemon scents pick me up, and this one is actually quite long-lasting, but not aggressive or bitter. Might have to get a bottle of this for summer.
I was perfume Sybil today. This morning I put on Pamplelune and tried to do my home pilates workout, but it was way too sharp on me for some reason. Scrubbed it off and replaced it with my sample of L’air de Rien which was maybe a little too come hither for grocery store and errands. Wound up at Anthropology this afternoon and sprayed on Royal Apothecary Carnation Nobile (I think that’s what it was called) which turned into a vanilla waftzilla on me – I think I may have gassed the poor Chinese lady sitting next to me on the bus home.
Ambre Sultan arrived in the mail yesterday and it is really gorgeous. Maybe I should have worn that today!
You sound as fickle as me. See above to see what I wore today!
Wow your day was like perfume mapquest, Merlin. Sounds like the Chergui was the ticket in the end, but what nice way of getting there. I’ve been thinking I’d like to try Encre Noir. What do you think of it?
Well, I was definitely all over the map!
Encre Noir is said to be one of the more faithful vetivers, though, if I understand correctly, not as refined as Chanel’s Sycamore. I sometimes like the dry sharpness of it – and it also has a nice, slightly nutty, dark wood background. If you like vetivers it is a must-try, partly because it is said to be such a faithful representation, and partly because of its moderate price tag. Personally I am not really drawn to anything dry or bitter. I find vetiver just a little easier than galbanum. So, I would probably have been better off with something that accented the vetiver with sweeter notes, Vetiver Oriental or (though I haven’t tried it) Vetiver Tonka…
Though I’m not really into ‘bottles’, I have to say, the black inkwell bottle of Encre Noir is truly striking. And unlike so many others, its even better up close.
Thanks for the wonderful description Merlin. I am a big fan of vetiver and the first one I smelled was a big snarl of dried vetiver roots I got at the market in the Dominican Republic. It was not dry or bitter at all. It was quite sweet and spicy, almost floral. So I think I’d like to at least try Encre Noir to see how it compares. I tried Sel de Vetiver, Vetiverio and the one with Java in the name and ended up really loving Guerlain Vetiver the most. But sometimes that one is just a little to sharp for me and other times I put it on and it’s magical.
The Guerlain is meant to be the gold standard – but on my skin I only get lemon from it! Another worth trying is Fat Electrician.
Wearing Jour d’Hermes for the second day in a row. Lovely weather here in New England.
That would be my SOTD, but the sample I thought I had in my purse is missing! It’s not the greatest scent in the world, but there is something so unabashedly happy about it, and I’m really considering a FB. I should go put something on right now…
Yay, next to scent twin Farouche!
SOTD = Cartier Baiser Vole EDT. This is the 2nd day in a row. I am trying to decide if I should go for a FB. I am now hunting for a sample of the extrait.
SOTD is Un Matin de Orage. This feels like spring to me. Now, if only our weather would cooperate! I am in MN and we are supposed to get about 6 inches of snow on Wednesday/Thursday.
Chanel No.19 Poudre – my wedding day scent. 🙂
Oh lovely choice!!
Thank you! It was our first wedding anniversary recently, and I wear it sparingly to keep the memory precious.
Oh, I love that! I think it’s such a great scent, super happy to see it getting love (literally!)
SOTE is Amouage Dia–my bottle arrived today and was waiting for me when I got home from work, so of course I HAD to put some on. My wishlist is now officially empty. Let’s see how long that lasts! 8)
I think you and I ordered about the same day…I just got my Dia as well! And, like you, my wish list is officially closed for a while.
But started off the SNOWY, COLD, on top of MUD, day with vintage Emeraude, then after a shower went to Chanel No. 22. I wore Dia yesterday. isn’t it grand??
I received mine too, 50! I love it so much. And that chubby little bottle is fun to spray. I thinkthis was day four for Dia.
Ha! Congrats on the Dia, good luck holding an empty wish list 😉
I’m so glad you finally got it! I know you’ve been lemming after it for awhile now.
I’m wearing Eau de Protection: the tough rose is grabbing Spring by the lapels to say that 9C is NOT what we want…!
SOTD is Bel Respiro. It is sort of growing on me. I found the first couple of minutes too sharp and laundry musk-y/soapy, but it’s settling down quite nicely. When I press my nose into my wrist I can enjoy the leather, and the floral aspects, but at a normal distance, I get a ton of Irish Spring soap. I have it from a sample vial, maybe it would do better sprayed? Bel Respiro lovers, convince me?
I would try, but as much as I like it, it disappears before I can make a case in its defense.
Oh! I love Bel Respiro. Definitely the opening is sharp but it really does settle into something lovely. But you do need a good amount on to enjoy it I find, and definitely better sprayed. I’ve never smelt Irish Spring soap so can’t make any comment on if sprayed would make a difference to that scent association. Amazing how an association can ruin (or inhance) a perfume. I sampled Jour d’Hermès yesterday and while I can see/smell why it is loved it reminds me of shampoo.
Autumnal here (in Australia) and overcast and I am having a relaxed day at home with my toddler. We just read our way through a stack of books and are planning to cook some gingerbread animals next so I’ve gone with Diptyque’s Tam Dao. It’s quiet and calm and I’m looking forward to catching wafts of it mixed with the scents of our cooking.
Sounds like a perfect day!
SOTD – SL Santal de Mysore for a rainy and windy 35 degree day. Just the ticket to keep the weather at bay.
Wore Ubar this morning. I’m happy with my newest purchase–I’m discovering complexities to the scent that I didn’t notice when it was dabbed from a small sample vial.
This evening I’m wearing Cuir Beluga, which I got a sample of while I was in Vegas. I really like it, but I feel like it doesn’t last long enough. So, I probably won’t end up purchasing a bottle. Probably. 🙂
Love that the Ubar bottle is everything you wanted AND MORE. Best possible perfume outcome 🙂
Shalimar Ode a la Vanille. The creamy, lemony goodness lasts all day.
Oh, one more to mention! Never made it on skin as I’d already covered myself in Serge, but I got to smell the new Jo Malone Osmanthus Blossom on paper today. I predicted anyone currently a Jo Malone hater will continue in that vein (maybe even more than usual) as it’s very light and didn’t immediately strike me as having much complexity to speak of… BUT, nevertheless I thought it was very, very pretty. I’ll def make a point of trying it on skin when I can. For whatever that data point may be worth!
Cold & rainy here. SOTD was Apres l’Ondee, and yesterday it was En Passant, for comfort. Tomorrow will probably be Iris Silver Mist. Though a couple weeks ago when it was warm and I was putting in the garden, I was wearing a lot of CB I Hate Perfume M#2 and Memory of Kindness.
That En Passant sample is about done…still trying to figure out whether it’s worth a full bottle or I should just get a decant.
The weather is changing day to day, as is everything else. I’m wearing Chanel No 19, leaning in to the new season.
I’m late, but as it doesn’t look like someone’s mentioned it: For Cape Town’s sudden very chilly autumn, I’m wearing lots of Prada Candy. I really don’t find it as sweet as people say! And is there iris in there, or what’s the soapy goodness? Anyway, I think it is gorgeous on me. It’s going to be one of the few bottles I drain.
I like many gourmands, but strangely Candy did not do it for me. Infusion d’ Iris, on the other hand, is a winner. But, I do not like it in very cold weather.
I’m not generally very into gourmands, but this… I don’t even find it gourmand, you see! Anything that smells like this would be poisonous to eat, I feel sure.
In reviews and comments, I’ve think I recall people mention that the drydown is similar to Prada Infusion d’Iris (just checked the Candy Perfume Boy’s review and he mentions iris and soap) so you aren’t crazy!
I didn’t find it too sweet myself, but very musky – I think I must be hyperosmic to whatever one they used, because no one else seemed to mention that.
I’m late too! Sod is MPG Tubereuse. Nice and creamy with a bit of green so it’s not tooo sweet. Enjoying it in warm and slightly muggy weather.

Yes, finally In Hungary the spring has arrived:) I’m wearing Burberry Body Tender, so so fresh and floral scent a lot of femininity!
I received a sample of Musk Ravageur recently and I love it. But, on me, and to my nose, its incredibly smooth and has no claws at all. In fact, with the delicate cinnamon aspect, it makes me think of fine French crepes with a slight lemon tang to balance the sweetness. I compared it to LLempicka’s L and in comparison it is light, airy and even clean. A gorgeous scent to fall asleep in!
Beautifully put! Have you gotten to wear it a few times? I personally find that it varies widely day-to-day on me. You describe perfectly the gentler days, but other times I find it roars louder and longer! I’ll be curious to know if it’s fairly consistent for you/it’s just weird body chemistry on my part.
Hi CH
I only have a dabber sample, but so far it has always smelled the same on me. I’v dabbed it also on my sleeve, where it is a little stronger but otherwise the same!
It was such a shame that JdB was discontinued! I have a bottle that I treasure.
My favorite spring scent is another discontinued gem: Seve Exquise.
That sounds so amazing! I haven’t really met a musk I didn’t love, anyway.
Oops, meant that as a reply to Merlin about Musk Ravageur, sorry!
I’v only tried MKK once and I remember driving home and wondering what suddenly smelled so revoltingly sweaty…
Also, I seem to be anosmic to some musks. I can’t smell Goutal’s Musc Nomade and so perhaps I am just be anosmic to the musk in Musc Ravageur.
Today – Brezza di Seta Cale Fragranze. Light…
I’m also in muggy and humid Texas (Houston) and a big storm is brewing outside. I am staying in today due to what I think is an ear infection. Am taking antibiotics which affect my taste, but so far not my nose. I got a decant of the new Malle Dries van Noten and am drowning myself in it, it’s that delicious. Not sure I will buy a bottle, as it’s awfully sweet, but it’s a fun one.
On the East Coast it was almost 80 degrees yesterday, and will be again today. Later in the week – back down to the 50s again! How to keep up? Yesterday I wore SSS’s Nostalgie, and today it’s Cristalle EDP.
Chipped ice off the windshield this morning. Un Bois Vanille.
