He seems so relaxed, so casual, so humble, so spontaneous!
Can’t wait for his next fragrances…ME! and then Essence of ME!
Ha!
I love him and I don’t get the generally hateful comments he usually gets. I like that he takes risks and usually goes the unpredicted way. He was one of the very few who had the ballz to launch really unique and ‘niche-y’ perfumes when he was creative director for mainstream labels like Gucci and YSL. His Gucci fragrances are iconic to this day and YSL Nu and M7 were pretty fab as well. He never went for generic crap, fragrance or fashionwise.
Many of the fragrances under his direction are brilliant — I would totally agree with that. My personal dislike of him is mostly visceral. I find it really difficult to watch him in interviews or listen to him speak.
I think he’s done some great scents. But, lordy, he is pretentious.
Exactly.
In fairness, I must say that Mr Ford lives across the street from me in London and I often see him in the neighbourhood, whether in restaurants, clubs or just walking his dogs in the square on an evening and he is never less than charming in the flesh. Only last week I bumped into his partner leaving Selfridges food hall with 4 carrier bags of food shopping and he then amazed me by proceeding to stand at the bus stop alongside me for 15 minutes waiting for a bus to take him back home (albeit their home is worth £45 million!) I quite like that his partner does his own shopping and catches the bus when I expected a chauffeured limo at the least. I’m sure most of his supposed pretension is PR.
Oh, I make no claims to know a darned thing about him, and am glad to hear he is reasonably charming & unpretentious. Still intensely dislike his public persona 🙂
Oh Robin, ‘intensely dislike ‘ is such a strong reaction! Though i must admit i have a similar reaction to Marc Jacobs whose persona i detest and puts me off even looking at his products 🙂
It is a strong reaction, but trust me, it isn’t even as strong as I feel when I watch videos of him speaking! Marc Jacobs annoys me too…his video talking about Dot was really ridiculous. But he does not make my skin crawl.
But will also add that nothing puts me off trying products! And enjoyed (although didn’t really love) Tom Ford’s movie, A Single Man.
