Two videos from niche line L’Artisan Parfumeur, on their upcoming Collection de Grasse, due for launch in October. The first video shows the production of the two candles, L’Automne and L’Hiver. Below the jump, the fabrication of scented leather gloves, perfumed with Mûre et Musc Extrême.
Fashion from the court of Catherine de Medici!
I believe Elizabeth I was quite fond of them as well. I have read that the original reason for perfuming gloves was that the substances used to tan leather in those days left it with a very disagreeable odor, so perfume was used to cover up the bad smell. Incidentally, the popularity of gloves as an accessory in past centuries is reflected in the fact that Glover is a fairly common English last name.
Yes, and that is how the fragrance industry ended up being centered in Grasse.
I want those candles and I want those gloves!!! Santa, are you hearing me?!!! Scented gloves were indeed made so to cover up disagreeable odors. Now that the handling of leather is more refined, scenting gloves with perfume is such a glorious idea!!!
I am lucky, I don’t want the gloves, and don’t know enough about the candle scents to be wanting those yet either 🙂
