The fine print: Don't enter the contest unless I have permission to use the email address in your reader account to contact you. If the email address in your reader account is incorrect, you might want to fix it. If you are the winner and you fail to send me your mailing details within a couple weeks, I’ll give your prize away to someone else. Sadly, it sometimes usually takes me a month to mail a package. Reasonable care will be taken in the packaging and mailing of your prize, but if the contents are lost or damaged or fail to please you for any reason whatsoever, I’m sorry but I cannot replace them.
My favorite perfume oils are from CJScents. She has a nicely varied line of scents and they last a long time on skin. The gourmand Vanilla Autumn Nights is a dark vanilla & incense blend that is cozy in fall & winter. Thanks for the draw!
1. Favorite book about perfume? The one I’m writing (well, it’s about scent across the eighteenth century, good, bad, and indescribable, but it’s got to be my favorite right now). My favorite actually in print is Holly Dugan’s Ephemeral History of Perfume.
2. Favorite oil? Well, I have a sentimental attachment to an “Egyptian Amber” oil I bought as a teen — just dabbed some on last night and even after a shower it is remarkably persistent (but not yet icky)
Skin Musk oil is my favorite. I always associate it with snow for some reason.
Thanks for the draw, Robin! My favourite oils are Fire of Isis from AromaSanctum and November in the Temperate Deciduous Forest from For Strange Women.
My favorite is Regina Harris Rose Maroc perfume oil.
What a lovely draw, thank you!
My favorite perfume book is still Jitterbug Perfume, though Alyssa’s is a close second! My favorite oil is the rose one by Regina Harris.
My favorite perfume oil is Gap Sandalwood. It’s discontinued now, no idea why, but I found some online. It’s just so soft and sweet without being too sweet. It smells like warm, fall nights.
Favourite perfume oil is 1000 Flowers by this Arabic company called Jamal Kazura Aromatics!
Thanks for the draw, Robin. As always, feel free to use the email in my account etc.
Were they still in production, I’d say either Pink Manhattan Purrfume Oil or the Humanities project oil were my favorite, but of those that are still around, I’m an original Monyette Paris girl. When I first tried it, I’d never smelled anything like it. And while there are some from Body Time and TBS I like (though most from TBS are long gone while Body Time’s Egyptian Musk is a staple), I always come back to Monyette for something that smells interesting, gorgeous and still pretty unusual ’round these parts. I’ll be crushed if it ever goes out of production.
Kai is my fave perfume oil.
You can use my email, live in US, etc.
Neroli Jasmine Perfume oil Body Shop
Yes, you have permission to use my e-mail
I have some old Ambush Skin perfume oil that is a favorite of mine. My favorite book about perfume would be, “The Guide”. Yeah, that’s trite, typical, and blah, blah, blah, but it opened me up to the world of perfume and I’m grateful for it.
I don’t have a favourite perfume oil, they’re really hard to find here but I’d love to try the Dsquared2 Potion Perfume Oil to see how much different that one is to my Potion EdP
I don’t currently have any perfume oils, but I have plenty (more like several lifetimes) of other stuff.
I love The Guide (snarky comments especially).
As always, thanks for the giveaways!
SOTD: Mandorlo di Sicilia (ADP)
I wear a vanilla-sandalwood oil, but I have no idea who makes it . . . bought it years ago in an alternative book store. Thanks! (And of course, you have permission to email me and all that stuff.)
Hooray for give-aways! Thank you.
CB:IHP Cradle of Light is probably my fave perfume oil.
Thanks for the draw! I don’t have a favorite perfume oil as it is quite hard to find it in my country (I recently moved to Canada, but I am originally from Brazil). Recently someone was kind enough to send me a little sample of Amouage Homage Attar perfume oil and I LOVED it! It was the first time I tried perfume oil so I can’t say it is my favorite, but I really liked it indeed.
Thanks again and you have permission to use my email.
My favorite perfume oil is a blend my sister got for me when she was in Cairo. I have no idea what’s in it – except maybe cypriol – but it smells fantastic. Luckily I have an enormous bottle of it, so I won’t be running out anytime soon. 🙂
Thanks so much for the giveaway!
My favorite perfume oil is English Musk I’ve bought for $5 or so 🙂
Sure you have permission to use my email.
Thank you!
Thank you for the draw. Not a big user of perfume oil – the closest one I use is Nuxe’s Huile Prodigieuse
My favorite perfume oil is Monyette Paris, which just so happens to be my SOTD. It’s like a portable beach vacation. And my favorite perfume book is Alyssa’s, which I finished reading last week — though I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her book to anyone who’s interested in memoir, feminism, or art and pleasure, regardless of their level of interest in perfume.
I live in the US and you may use the e-mail address in my account. Thanks for another great draw.
My favorite perfume oil is Kai. You have my permission to use my email address. Thanks for the draw, Robin!
I’m a fan of Auric Blends perfume oils, my favorite scent at the moment probably being Desert Night. Thanks for the draw! 🙂
The only perfume oil I’ve used thus far is Kiehl’s musk oil… which I do like quite a bit. Thanks for the giveaway!
My fave perfume oil must be Regina Harris Amber Vanilla.
Ooh how exciting! An international one, yay!
My favourite perfume oil … I can’t choose one, so here’s two:
Currently wearing the socks off of Winter Kitty by “For Strange Women” on Etsy. It really does smell like my cats walked in from the snow (or at least from having a rain bath). It makes me feel so at home (back in Kenya), and lifts me up with hope that I’ll be home soon.
My other favourite is by Pixxxie Pie and Posy (also Etsy), called Sirius Black. Her description: Ever precious Immortelle flowers drizzle this concoction in a syrup-heavy caramel, whose musky sweetness is balanced by Indonesian Teak.
On me, this one is an “old” (as in ancient and wise) scent with some sort of woods and a dark sweetness. Lasts AGES. Is almost spiritual, somehow. Also love “Blackwood Cello”, but cannot find the description as her store is closed for her holiday.
Thanks for the draw! 🙂
The only perfume oil I’ve tried, and by default my favorite, would be The Body Shop’s White Musk. Thank you for the giveaway!
My favorite perfume oil would definitely be Kiehls “Pour Homme” essence oil in the amber glass roll-on. It’s the perfect navy blazer of my fragrance wardrobe. Would love to try this Joya!
My favourite oil, which is actually the only one I have, is Azurée Soleil. Does that count as an oil?
Thank you for hosting this, and for making this an international one.
I just recently discovered Ava Luxe and bought her Milk perfume oil. It kind of reminds me of a denser version of Demeter’s Condensed Milk and is very much a gourmand. It kind of makes me want to eat my own arm when I wear it 🙂
a nameless oil, from Oman I received as a gift. I can’t really identify what’s in it, but I’m sure there’s a lot of jasmine and other white flowers and it smells really nice and fresh (I sometimes give a drop or two to the water I use to mop the floors, the whole flat smells really nice).
Oh, and thanks for making this international 🙂 it’s appreciated!
My favourite perfume oil is Nag Champa from FragrantBodyOilz.
I’m not a big fan of perfume oils, but I received a sample of Black Gardenia by Michele Bergman that I really enjoy. You can use the email in my profile. Thanks for the giveaway!
My favorite was my very first, way back when in junior high. I had a bottle of sandalwood oil from the Body Shop, which has been discontinued for years. Still sad about that!
So many comments, and I’m the first BPAL lover? ..slinks away in shame.
But seriously, I really like …and There Was a Great Cry in Egypt from BPAL’s Salon series. Smells like Vol de Nuit, but lasts longer, and 1/4 of the price. Go ahead and use my email!
I’v never used a perfume oil. My favourite perfume book is Perfume: the Guide by L.T.&T.S. It may not be the MOST informative on a technical level but in terms of biting wit, density and passion it wins the race for me.
My favorite perfume oil is DSH white lilac.
My favorite perfume oil is Bobbi Brown’s Beach, and my favorite perfume book is The Guide, which opened up a whole new world of perfume to me.
Thank you for this giveaway!
I love the Bronze Goddess oil. But some of the others in the comments sound great!
Old fogey speaking up here to say I still love EL’s Youth Dew bath oil. My “starter” perfume book was — believe it or not — a Harlequin Romance I read as a preteen. I have no idea now of the title or author, but the heroine was a perfumer! I loved the idea that a “girl” could make beautiful scents, and I’m still a complete sucker for a happy ending…
I made my own perfume oil using sandalwood oil and a nip of johnny Walker scotch whiskey ! It’s very scotchy boozy and has that sweet woody base ! I can not live without my library of essential oils ! I have not read any books on perfumes as yet !
Aesop Marrakech! Love the perfume oil and keep a little bottle in the bottom of my bag.
My favorite (for years & years, undefeated) is Tunisian Frankincense by Attar Bazaar. 🙂
I have a bottle of Youth Dew bath oil that was my aunt’s so that’s the closest to a perfume oil that I own.
I’d love to be in the draw. Favorite perfume book is Tom Robbins’s “Jitterbug Perfume.” Thanks for the opportunity!
What great suggestions from everyone. The only perfume oil I own is an amber vanilla one by Liz Zorn— it is lovely.
Favorite perfume book, so far, is The Guide. However, I have Alyssa’s book on the way and am looking forward to reading it as I really enjoy her writing. Feel free to use my email address and thank you for the draw! Good luck to everyone. 🙂
Robin, thanks for the give-away, and you can email me any time! 😉
The original Bonne Bell Skin Musk is one of my faves, and I also love home blended essential oils in jojoba.
The only one I have tried is The Body Shop’s White Musk, so it wins by default as my favorite . . . At least so far!
I don’t know if this counts as a “perfume” oil, since it’s really an essential oil, but I have to admit I adore a drop of good ol’ hippie patchouli oil, especially in cool weather. You have permission to use my email address, and I live in the US 🙂
I really enjoy Ava Luxe White Musk and Cashmere Musk. They last forever! Thank you so much for the drawing. You may definitely use my email address…thanks again!!
My favorite perfume book is The Scent Trail, but I haven’t read Alyssa’s yet!
My favorite perfume oils are Yosh Trompeur (finally have a bottle) and 40 Notes White Winter Flower. Of course, you may use my email.
My favourite perfume oil must be the Body Shop’s now defunct Sandalwood. I haven’t found its equal, but that is likely because it remains so beautiful in my memories.
As always, Robin, thanks for giving us non-US folks this opportunity!
Hi Robin! Permission to use my email, etc.
My all-time fave perfume oil is White Musk by Auric Blends perfume oils, still a favorite of bohemians and hippies everywhere.
Two favorite oils.
Lola oil (with the little mustard (?) seeds in the bottle) and from the 70’s, Spiritual Sky’s Strawberry scented oil. My first boyfriend wore that. 🙂
My favorite perfume oil is Narciso Rodriquez Musc Oil for Her. So cuddly. When I was younger, …way younger….I loved my patchouli oil.
I’ve rarely owned perfume in oil form, but remember really enjoying France Denney Interlude in oil form decades ago. I did just acquire a bottle of the Body Shop Sandalwood oil, yet to be worn. And I’m very sad to have just missed an opportunity to have purchased vintage Diorissimo in a satin oil form that I hadn’t even realized existed.
As for perfume books, I enjoyed Denise Hamilton’s mystery Damage Control, and I do have fun with the snark of the Turin/Sanchez guides. For a non-snarky assessment (and with pictures of her 200 choices) I like The Perfume Guide by Susan Irvine.
Thanks for the non-US only draw opportunity.
My favourite perfume book is “jitterbug perfume”..
My favorite perfume oil is BPAL Snake Oil.
My favorite perfume oil is the now discontinued Clove oil from Body Time. I bought their last one lo these many years ago and hoard it like it was liquid gold.
And you have my permission to use my email address.
Marjorie
My favorite perfume oil is a jasmine oil my sister brought me from India.
My favorite oil is Agarscents Bazaar Bakhoor Zahra Le Femme. It is woody and spicy with some floral from the lotus.Thank you!
I wore Egyptian Musk all through high school. Later an ex boyfriend told me that he still associated it with me, so I guess it was my signature scent! It was just a $5 cheapo from the local health food store, also sold at head shops. I still have some, and like it unapologetically though I rarely wear it.
I do not have any perfume oils, but I worked for Lancome in the 80’s and had the Magie Noir perfume oil, which I liked a lot better than the spray. I gave it to my mom, and she loved it. I used to get lots of compliments on it, but I thought it was too heavy…or maybe I was just too young. Wish I had it now!
I really enjoyed reading “Damage Control” by Denise Hamilton…it was one of the first books I got on my Kindle…. Christmas present from my son
I haven’t read a lot of perfume books, but I do enjoy reading reviews out of The Guide (although I do look elsewhere for non-snarky opinions too). Thanks for having this drawing!
Egyptian Goddess, that is, not Egyptian Musk.
I wore (and loved) Caswell-Massey’s Holy Smoke. I’m thinking this was in the late 80’s. When I wore this and hugged someone, it always assured a little hang time on my neck. Fine with me.
Wish they still made it.
Favourite oils are 3 Amouage Attars – Asrar (the saffron is delicious), Badr al Badour (to me it’s the ideal rose/oudh combination) and Molook (almost too much skank, but just holds it in check).
It’s not really a perfume book and I WANTED to love it but ended up being frustrated by it because of the poor structure, but I’ll mention it anyway: Floating Gold, A Natural and Unnatural History of Amergris by Christopher Kemp.
I just finished Alyssa’s book _Coming to My Senses_ and I think it’s my new favorite! As for perfume oils, it’s hard to pick a favorite, but the one I find myself reaching for most often is Bourbon French’s Musk oil – it’s soft, not too sweet, and lasts nicely.
Mine would be Aesop Marrakech. Thanks for the giveaway!
My favorite perfume oil is Tribute by Amouage. It’s so lush and elegant.
My favorite perfume oil might be Opus Oils Voodoo. I have a gob of them, though, so that might change tomorrow!
I have quite a few perfume oils and really love Geisha Noire. Can’t stop sniffing myself when I wear it. You have permission to use my emai address. Thank you.
My favorite fragrance book is, predictably, “Perfumes: The Guide.” It has been the most important book for me to get to know perfumes.
As for oils, I like Tunisian Jasmine from Attar Bazaar. I like to layer it with Jo Malone 154. I also have one that I blended at a bath & body shop here in Houston called Naked. They sell their lotions and such unscented, but they have fragrance oils (and a few essential oils) that you can use to make your own blend, and then they keep it on file for you so you can have that scent added to whatever you want, so I got a oil perfume roll-on. I think I did pretty well with it. I did kind of a woody/floral thing.
As for books, I just got Alyssa Harad’s book and am really liking it so far. It’s my first perfume book. I really want the Guide too, but I don’t have that one yet.
I like Amber from Auric Blends, also many of the oils from Possets, Madini, and Attar Bazaar. I live in the US and you may use the e-mail address in my account. Thanks for the draw.
Hello,
My favorite perfume oil is Bruno acampora blu, it’s the most amazing tuberose ever( beating out another of my favorites carnal flower).
My favorite perfume oil is Lucy B “Frangipani”–which I thought I’d be embarrassed to say til I read some of the other favorites 🙂 You have my permission to use my email, of course!
I don’t know how I almost missed this. Funny though that Ames Soeurs is my SOTD. (It’s only a sample, I would never enter to win a scent I already own a full size of.)
My favorite oils are the old school Body Shop ones. I still have the Vanilla and Patch that I bought in high school. I am savoring every last drop.
Thanks for another great giveaway!
thanks for the international draw
have not tried, yet, perfume oils
favorite book, beside “the Guide” is Suskind’s “Perfume”
My favorite oil: the orange blossom oil I got on my last trip to Egypt 🙂
