We're (mostly) taking the day off in honor of the 4th of July. Whether or not you celebrate the 4th, feel free to add your scent of the day to the comments, and tell us what you're up to today.
I'm still on vacation, and not sure if I'll be able to answer comments or not. I'm wearing Bath & Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena lotion, and plan to layer it with Off bug spray this afternoon.

I went swimming in the morning anw was caught by some heavy rain on my way back home. My shorts and t-shirt were soaking wet. It stopped raining few hours ago, it’s really warm and humid after the rain.
I sprayed a little bit of Serge Lutens Gris Clair after I came back home and properly dried myself after the rain.
Happy 4th of July to all those, who celebrate!
Wearing Prada Amber Intense. Great fragrance to a day at home, very comforting.
Not something about me, but about internet in general. Don’t you think strange how people are easily forgetable in the net? Friendships are usually superficial and virtual. If you don’t have anything material that catch the interest of the counterpart, he/she doesn’t give you any attention, even when you try hard to be a friend. People like to add us to friends’ lists to increase numbers and somehow show “I have bunches of friends, take a look. I’m more cool than you”.
They’re withdrawn and suspicious about everything. The other day an insecure guy thought my compliments in his posts were “mealy-mouthed” when I was just being sincere. He may be habituated to deal with false people in real life or has problems to receive compliments.
In another situation I sent a mail to a person with problems with alcohol exposing some aspects of my personal life and the person haven’t even sent back a ” Thank you”.
This coldness amazes and annoys me! Where are we going?
Just thinking and writing…
And notice that the alcoholic guy was asking for help. I’m accostumed to deal with this kind of problems, not with this kind of coldness. Sad.
You smell great! Prada Amber Intense was unavailable in my country, it took me a lot of time and energy to finally have it in my collection.
Thank you! 🙂
We are expecting a monsoon today. Very sultry out there! I think it is an eau d’ Hadrien day for me. Good for a humid day. Going to spend it with a special friend, swimming, eating Tennesee pulled pork, watching a movie, knitting, and….drum roll…trying my newly arrived decants of the five new Piguets and the three new Guerlains. I think I may just be heading into a perfect day. I hope all of you are too.
Vincent, people are confounding. You would expect support from like-minded people, but some folks don’t play well with others. Focus on the other 99.9% of the passionate, supportive, brilliant souls on this site. Maybe someone was having a bad day? I hope none of you are. Ha
I agree! Eau d’Hadrien is a best choice when it’s humid. I’m runnig out of my decant, will probably buy a bottle next time
Hi juicejones, Eau d’Hadrien is one of my favorites, especially for hot, humid days such as today. I’m still busy sampling from all the great suggestions from Monday Mail and am wearing Van Clef & Arpels Gardenia Petale. Absolutely beautiful!
Going to a pool party and bbq later. Happy 4th everyone!
Farouche, your choice sounds heady and wonderful. Summery and sultry! I guess the 4th is all about smells. Barbeque, watermelon, chlorine, burnt sparklers…and Off! Enjoy!
Tanja JuiceJones! These situations happened in another place, not on here.
Actually for me the percentages works different. 90% of the people I try to approach are the way I described, frustating. I guess I will start to give them what they’re looking for, superficiality.
A wise writer called Clarice Lispector said: ” Our fundamental difference is that you were able to live at surfaces while I was able to go deeper.” I’m not talking about you, please (these are the words of the writer I’m using to ilustrate. 🙂 ). Unluckily it was not just a bad day, but a painful finding. I guess I will turn down my expectations about people and change some personal values.
Thanks for the kind words. Very appreciated. 🙂
Sorry juicejones. The first word is thanks (text corrector).
Victor, I should have been clear. I was supposing they were having a bad day. I fully understand what you mean. Just as people can become aggresive behind the wheel of their car, their keyboard provides a similar layer of protection. Sad. Thanks for the “heads up” on Ms. Lispector. Now, I want to know more about her!
She’s excellent! A critic, wise and nothing merciful point of view, but also a wonderful woman heart. She says about problems with a impressive propriety. One of my favourite Clarice’s statments: ” …And if it is true that time doesn’t go back, it should be true that we don’t lose friends.”
Let us know what you think of the new Piguets! I’ve considered ordering samples, but am hoping testers will be available sooner or later in a store around here.
Got dumped off on my last line. Just wishing you all a Happy 4th!
I’m mostly just enjoying having a rare midweek day off. For my SOTM, I put on some Yves Rocher Eau de Juillet, which is essentially a classic Eau de Cologne scent. I acquired quite a few YR ‘fumes about 20 years ago, and am amazed to see the prices some of them are going for on eBay.
BTW, Surrender to Chance is having a 4 hour sale today, from 10 to 2 EDT, so I sprang for the decant of Amouage Gold I have been wanting. Code FIRECRACKER gets you 15% off.
I am looking forward to the fireworks display tonight. We didn’t have any last year; due to the extreme drought, the city decided that the fire risk was just too great. This year, we have had plenty of rain, and plenty of mosquitoes, so I will need to wear Off as my SOTE.
Thanks for the tip – I’m adding perfume shopping to my list of things to do today! Enjoy your decant – I *really* like Gold and sprung for my decant several months ago. Makes me feel more dressed up than I usually am and it unfolds so nicely in the heat when applied with a light hand.
Happy Independance Day! Today is a rare day with no set plans other than hanging out at home by the pool reading a good book and cooking up a storm of burgers. My SOTD started with a hefty spritz of Badgley Mischka pre-shower and I’m looking forward to dousing in several scents throughout the course of the day. Usually, I am mindful of silliage since my work and hobby activities lean toward light application of scent. Today I bring out the sillage monsters!
It’s overcast and humid here today and I’m spending it at a family barbecue. I’m wearing my new favorite find, Etat Libre d’Orange Fils de Dieu.
Going to watch the Macy’s NYC Fireworks from the Intrepid!! Can’t wait…please please please no rain… I am thinking of wearing something from an American perfumer, my first thought was Michael by Michael Kors. I wish I had some Tommy Girl. Any suggestions? Happy 4th of July everyone!!!!
The only American perfumers I’ve explored were niche lines–SSS or DSH? I bet CB I Hate Perfume would have something appropriate as well.
I am wearing CB:IHP Memory of Kindness. It is a hot, humid day here in Miami.
Hot & humid here in central Florida, too. Went for a walk at 9 this morning and a sweaty mess 40 minutes later. Ugh! Just think, monkeytoe, we have only 3 more months of this weather …….
Three more months? Optimist. 🙂
That sounds like fun! No rain in the forcast and not too hot, either. Lucky you – Enjoy!
SOTD–Central Park West. Activities for the day–think I’ll try to figure out the new digital camera that I won at the company bbq a couple of weeks ago and then hope that I’m not too late to go see the tall ships (The USS constitution played a major role in the War of 1812 apparently). My freezer is defrosting but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t require my actual presence to happen. Am still trying to decide whether to deal with the crowds and see the fireworks on the Esplanade, though I’m leaning towards no
Happy Independence Day!
I have no plans, and I am sipping my coffee, trying to decide if that bothers me. Maybe I need to get out of town for the day? Maybe I’m feeling lazier than that. Can’t decide, need more coffee!
Update: The (finally) gorgeous weather has convinced me to go out and do some work on my car. The paint I use can’t cure properly unless the temps stay pretty warm a few days, and it looks like I may finally get to start on it for the summer. Maybe this will be the year I “finish” the paintings?
(For those who don’t know, my car is an “art car,” painted in a flower garden sort of motif. Very pretty, but never seems complete!)
What a cool car! Would love to see pictures of that.
I’d love to see that too.
I’d love to share! Only problem is that I’m functionally a Luddite–no facebook or other obvious way to put it out into the webverse. Maybe someone with more savvy can explain how I can post pictures somewhere?
Way too much heat here and still a bit jangled from that derecho storm disaster – I plan to stay in the AC and wear Habanita.
Happy 4th and/or perfume day to everyone! (Every day is perfume day for us wherever we are, right?)
Oh, we need to make that an international holiday! Perfume Day! Perfume Awareness Day? Perfume Appreciation Day? I vote for that one–Perfume Appreciation Day! Or maybe Fragrance Appreciation Day, more inclusive?
And Internation Perfume Sample Swap Day, please!
Oh, you are very wise, Lucasai! Yes, please!
Great idea!
International Olfactory Swoon Day! 🙂
SOTD is a very fitting The Smell of Freedom (Gorilla Perfume at Lush). Now I am off to walk to the mall to get my free tall cup of coffee at Starbucks (and I am earning $$s to go towards my perfume purchase kitty).
We passed on the trolley and walked back to the inn last night after the fireworks. My husband asked why I was walking so fast and I just laughed.
Happy 4th of July to anyone who celebrates. I’m in UK so my excitement of the day comes courtesy of LHC and the news about the new particle, plus a spot of retail therapy this afternoon.
I’ve had a couple of pretty stressful weeks and it was my birthday a few days ago so I cracked and finally bought a 75ml bottle of Sycomore! I had some gift vouchers so, in essence, I got it with a 40% discount. On top of that, the SA showered me with Les Exclusifs samples, I got up a couple of birthday freebies from Aveda and Space NK AND I picked a blouse that I’ve liked for while in the sale so I’m a pretty happy bunny all round.
Sounds wonderful – Congratulations on such lovely acquisitions!
Sycomore is heavenly !!!! Well done
Sounds like a highly therapeutic outing, indeed 🙂
“Happy Independence Day!” My 5yr old said to me this morning, so I’ll pass it on to everyone who visits here today. 😉
My very American SOTD is EL’s Tuberose & Gardenia. Later this afternoon it shall be enhanced with bug spray as I go out to the garden to pull weeds….
Very, very happy 4th July! I lived in the U.S. for 20 years and American
friends were always very generous sharing their holidays with us. I have many happy memories of pool parties and fireworks–goodness
knows what perfume it evokes, chlorene and gunpowder I suppose.
And barbecue smoke, of course.
Very true! 🙂
Lol. The barbecue smoke has one of the best sillages I know!
Le De. I find it nicely summery, even in the parfum.
I have a long list of things I still want to get done today – can’t help but notice that I’m not doing them yet, but it’s lovely to have a day off!
Listened to a big thunderstorm roll through, then stuck the cat in the spare bedroom so she can find a nice quiet place to hide during the coming fireworks madness.
SOTD is PdN Eau Exotique. Perfect for a very hot, humid summer day.
Poor kitty! Mine seems to be taking it in stride, which is making me wonder if her hearing is starting to go.
A friend gave me a decant of Bliss EDT to try. While I was unfamiliar with this line (apparently a day-spa product?) the fragrance was just right for a 101 °F day with heavy humidity and scarcely a breeze. Light, cooling, aquatic (but not a calone-monster), refreshing. Glad I had it with me today! Happy 4th to everyone.
I used to get wonderful catalogues from Bliss full of tempting make-up and body products. Hmmm – according to the website, the new Bliss Spa at the W Washington D.C. provides 3000 square feet of “tension-fighting facilities.” 🙂
I don’t recall ever using any Bliss products, but a facility dedicated to “tension fighting” sounds like the perfect place for a Girls Day Out! Off to the web to look it up…
I haven’t tried the Bliss EDT, but their Lemon and Sage Soapy Sap (or whatever they call it) was one of my first scented-product loves. When I was in college, I used to save up for a giant bottle and then use it very, very conservatively so it’d last a long time. It was just amazing to me that something as mundane as body wash could smell that good.
Come to think of it, Bliss should really make a Lemon and Sage body spray. I’d be all over that. Especially if I kept it in the fridge for summer.
I spent this morning alternately marching and dancing through the streets of Vail, CO, with the Denver and District Pipe Band. I put on Rive Gauche before leaving the house at 5:30AM, then covered it with enough sunscreen to keep me from blistering at 8150 feet.
Tha sounds really perfect, Aimiliiona!
After a morning of cooking (deviled eggs, peach cobbler, German potato salad, plus breakfast for me and the husband), I proudly wore my newly acquired Manoumalia to a BBQ this afternoon/evening. I briefly considered an all-American Lauder, but I’m just going to have to let this Manoumalia infatuation run its course.
Since I spritzed lightly, it had faded quite a bit by the time we got home, which allowed me to use my other birthday-gift-to-self (Monyette oil) as my SOTE. Off to see how it pairs with a small glass of peach-infused bourbon.
Hope everyone had a great day, wherever y’all are!
Peach infused bourbon? That sounds quite tasty.
My impulse purchase (and scent) of the day is Henri Bendel Incense & Musk. I was at the Galleria today and noticed that the new Henri Bendel store had finally opened..most of their perfumes weren’t really my thing (I wasn’t even wild about their fig, and I love fig.. I think theirs was a bit too much toward the coconut end of the figgy spectrum). But I pretty much instantly fell for the incense and decided it was coming home with me.
I spent the holiday at a small get-together at a friend’s house. We cooked hot dogs and all walked down the street to watch the downtown fireworks. Good times.
Happy 4th of July!
Two random thoughts: the beautiful Springsteen’s song 4th of July (Sandyyyyy, the aurora is rising behind us… what a song!), and finally I manage to get a couple of bottles of my beloved and very elusive Minotaure Paloma Picasso, my signature scent years ago. After sampling all sort of scents, I’m back to basics. Happily!
Happy belated 4th July! My first experience of it was when I was 3 on the beach of Southern California. We had a BBQ party on the beach and watched the yachts decked with flags go by and fireworks at night. The fragrance my mum wore would either have been Shiseido Zen or Jean Patou Joy.
