Posted by Robin on 23 June 2012 6 Comments

Tommy Hilfiger Man Sport

Tommy Hilfiger has launched Hilfiger Man Sport, a new aromatic fougere fragrance:

Tommy Hilfiger men’s fragrance. Hilfiger Man Sport has arrived. A light, citrusy fragrance that begins with notes of ginger, pineapple mandarin and artemisia. The heart develops with accords of geranium, lavender and cypress, with a base consisting of sandalwood and amber.

Tommy Hilfiger Man Sport is available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette Sport.

I can’t wait in a couple of years when they bring out the “Hilfiger Man Sport Extreme Night Rush, L’eau” in a special collectors bottle edition.

Flankers have begun to bother me more and more recently. For brands like Creed, Jo Malone, Annick Goutal and other fragrance brands that always have the same bottles representing their fragrances, I’m cool with that. Its a consistant image for the brand and is respectable. When there’s one fragrance that’s successful in a series, then come out the flankers, same bottle and sometimes almost the same scent and other’s have nothing to do with the original scent. In either case I see the company as lazy and disrespectful to the fragrance industry. If it has nothing to do with the original fragrance other than have a similar concept behind it, you can still take the time to develop a different bottle shape and name, but make the connection that the inspiration was in relation to a previous fragrance. When it comes to fragrances that are similar to the classic, like Euphoria for example by Calvin Klein (followed by blossom, forbidden, etc) or Chanel’s Allure Homme line (Allure edt, Allure sport Col, Allure white ed, Allure sport, Allure fraiche, Allure sport extreme). For example, when Chanel Allure Homme Sport Extreme was coming out, did anyone question if it was going to be in a different bottle or smell similar? No, because it was very predictable, since all the Allure Homme lines smell exactly the same, except for a tweak here and there. The fragrance world needs a bit of a shake up I think.

Sorry for the rant, but seeing this fragrance just made me kinda pissed, since its probably not ground breaking. Just another fragrance to fill in a gap that the brand hasn’t covered yet. There’s a reason only Wal Mart and drugstores carry Tommy now and that’s because the brand has become bland. Tommy can do SO much better. What the heck mister Hilfiger? Loud was a step in the right direction, but you just curled back into the corner when that failed…get back out there champ, you can do it!…ugh, designers (can’t live with em, can’t live without them).

Can’t disagree w/ anything you said. Sometimes it really bothers me too, but I spend so much time reporting on them that I just stop paying attention — otherwise, I’d go crazy.

Can’t disagree about the Hilfiger brand either. I think they’re concentrating their efforts overseas these days.
