Ayala Moriel Etrog ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 18 June 2012 10 Comments

Ayala Moriel Etrog

Indie natural perfumer Ayala Moriel has launched Etrog Oy de Cologne, a new citrus floral fragrance:

Due to its delicate flavour and sweet perfume, citron (Citrus medica, or Etrog in Hebrew) garnered mythical significance like no other citrus fruit. It is one of the 4 species in Sukkot, alongside myrtle, willow and palm. Etrog symbolizes the heart, and is said to represent a complete, balanced person: one who has both knowledge and learning, as well as good deeds. And like all good things, citron fruit is rare, and its essences is even more difficult to find. Therefore, the perfumer had to tincture her own: fresh organic fruit was tinctured by her family in Israel, and the rabbi of downtown Vancouver donated his family's Etrogim for 3 consecutive years. Thanks to this community effort - the first "Oy de Cologne"! Ayala Moriel's Etrog Oy de Cologne is a modern twist on a timeless classic: citron zest is paired with pomelo peel to accentuate its subtle floral-citrus aroma, alongside green myrtle and Japanese mint to balance its fruity sweetness. Balsam poplar buds created a honeyed, pulp-like texture alongside Australian lemon myrtle and citron leaves. Ancient olive and incense resins make a lasting impression.

Ayala Moriel Etrog Oy de Cologne is available in 4 ($48) or 15 ($120) ml Eau de Parfum.

My mouth is watering as I read. Not entirely sure about the mint note, but will have to see if it ends up smelling like a Mojito. Haven’t tried anything by this perfumer, but it’s always exciting to discover new ones to try.

I would love mojito myself, but her description sounds quite different.

not sure about perfume but mint in lemonade gives it a coolness without really tasting like mint or changing the lemonade…could be good…

Even if I didn’t love the notes here, they would’ve had me at “Oy de Cologne.” (Well, I do teach Hebrew for a living….) That sample is all but bought already.

Robin, thanks for announcing the Etrog Oy de Cologne!
I’m so happy it’s being received so well and it’s only been out for a few days now :-)
Re the mint: it’s just there to balance the sweetness from the citron, honey and poplar buds. Not quite like mojito either because there is no lime and like I said, it’s just a hint of Japanese mint (Mentha arvensis, which is similar to the Mentha piperita, but sweeter).

Etrog is such an inspiring fruit with a perfume like no other, I was compelled to create a perfume with it as its core and theme. And I’m very happy that the name & subtitle brings a smile whenever I tell people about it.
    Have a great day!
    :-)
