Cartier Declaration d’un Soir ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 17 June 2012 9 Comments

Cartier Déclaration d’un Soir fragrance bottle

Cartier will launch Déclaration d’un Soir, a new fragrance for men, in August. Déclaration d’un Soir is a flanker to 1998's Déclaration, and is intended as an evening version that 'drives men to speak their minds'.

Déclaration d’un Soir was developed by Cartier perfumer Mathilde Laurent. The notes include pepper, cumin, nutmeg, rose and sandalwood.

Cartier Déclaration d’un Soir is expected to launch at Bloomingdales in the US; I will update with size and concentration when I can.

Update: Cartier Déclaration d’un Soir will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Another update: see a review of Cartier Déclaration d’un Soir.

Okay, I’ll speak my mind: a Déclaration without Ellena behind it – and without that odd heart-shaped bottle – raises my haunches a little. (Déclaration is my precious, and I can get a bit defensive.) But Mathilde Laurent is a phenomenal talent, so…I’ll reserve judgement until I smell it. The notes sound promising enough.

I read the other day, on PerfumeShrine IIRC, that the original Déclaration makes up for 60% of Cartier’s total fragrance sales. That’s a lot of pressure on a flanker!

If i may defend Mathilde as a fan of her work, she has already showed that she dominates the idea and can extend it in interesting interpretations of the original concept. Her Declaration Cologne flanker is a proof of this, she managed to do one of the best commertial gingers right now, one that is beautifully balanced on the sparkle and crisp and slightly spicy aspect of ginger and avoiding the soapy aspects of ginger. And this keeping the best possible the original idea, making only softer but without loosing the longevity. She definitely know what she is doing.

From what i have heard about a friend that has already tried this, it’s a lovely variation of the original, more woodier and with a exquisite floral rose touch.

Rick, you’ve got me very curious now – which ginger perfume is this? I’d love to give it a sniff!

Wow, 60% of the total, not just the masculine? If it’s true, that actually is as telling about the state of their feminine line as anything else.

Robin, this would explain why they have axed Delices EDP, Fruitee, Le Baiser du Dragon in all concentrations (EDT, EDP, Parfum), Panthere in all concentrations (EDP, Legere and Parfum), and So Pretty in all concentrations (EDT, EDP, Fruitee and Parfum). It’s definitely a drastic discontinuation that would be explained (this is never justified for me!) by low sales…

Could be. Wonder how Baiser Vole is doing? But perhaps the other 40% goes to Eau de Cartier & flankers.

It drives men to speak their minds…isn’t that why bourbon exists?

      And it’s probably more reliable.
