Posted by Robin on 16 March 2012 23 Comments

Profumi del Forte Colonia del Forte 1265, 1452 & 1475

Italian niche line Profumi del Forte has launched a new trio of fragrances: Colonia del Forte 1265, Colonia del Forte 1452 and Colonia del Forte 1475. The scents honor the birth dates of Dante, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo respectively.

Colonia del Forte 1265 ~ flowery and mossy; notes include bergamot, lemon, orange, petitgrain, rose, neroli, heliotrope, lavender, musk, rosemary and thyme.

Colonia del Forte 1452 ~ an aromatic citrus, with orange, tangerine, floral notes, petitgrain, herbs and gourmand notes.

Colonia del Forte 1475 ~ a marine woody fragrance, featuring lemon, green leaves, ginger, sea salt, vanilla and moss.

Profumi del Forte Colonia del Forte 1265, 1452 and 1475 are available in 120 ml Eau de Toilette.

I get majorly confused with all the perfume houses beginning with the prefix “Profum-“, but think I have tried others in the line somewhere in Germany. Of this trio, 1475 intrigues me most, but I will never remember these numbers either!

Ack, I won’t remember them either.

    This combine several niche trends:

    1. releasing several traditional colognes all at once
    2. giving the fragrances historical inspiration
    3. giving the fragrances numbered names, making them impossible to remember

Seriously, couldn’t they just have called these Dante, da Vinci, and Michelangelo? So much easier to remember.

Or maybe the names of some of their works. I would definitely try fragrances named Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso; Mona Lisa; and Pieta and David.

None of the names seem to match the fragrances. No heat (nor sulpher) for Dante; those nice marines and woods could be evocative of the “backgrounds” of the Mona Lisa or the Virgin of the Rocks, but they are the notes for Michelangelo, instead of Da Vinci.

Breathes & Mutzi – you both had better ideas for naming these fragrances! Plus, Histories de Parfums are already doing the date/famous historical personage thing.

Agree. Don’t like all these numbers.

I agree as well, but in this case I blame the TMNT franchise (“da Vinci” is not used by Italian speakers to refer to Leonardo) ;)

I do not know what TMNT is…

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? In any case, Dante’s hell is frozen, not hot.

Right, and I think with a bit of tweaking these scents could be “cold” and fit Inferno. But my main point was that I would rather have scents named after the works than the birthdates.

To Chiara: Doesn’t “da Vinci” mean “from Vinci” or “of Vinci”? Thanks.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Leonardo, Raffaello (Raphael), Michelangelo and Donatello can only smell of sewage, pizza and giant rat if you were a child in the late 80s! Maybe Profumi del Forte could release all four fragrances. Dante is out of place, though.

I share the brand name confusion for those starting as “Profumi” or “Pefumi” I rguess my brain only wants to read the first three letters of any word to decide what it is.

I love love the Vittoria Apuana from this line and am very impressed by some of their others-Forte Plus Forte, Tirranico. All very well done and pricey.

I’ll try these, but the number bit will make me very confused.

I sure hope someone doesn’t start an English fragrance line based on the dates of famous battles. I’d end up wearing the Battle of Bannockburn when I mean to wear Battle of Hastings…

      LOL Ikat!

(That Vittoria Apuana is a crazy little scent isn’t it? I think that’s the one with the banana note? I have to sniff that one again.)

Vittoria Apuana is one of my favourite summer scents. Summer vacation in a bottle.

1066! or was that 1812? Wait, wasn’t that an overture? Where are the cannons to the right of them? No, that was the Charge of the Light Brigade. In 1854. That’s the perfume I want–Balaclava. Mmmm, pastry!

I realize that lists of notes are not necessarily representative of the bottle’s contents, but it seems odd that the “flowery and mossy” offering doesn’t contain, y’know, moss. (Though the “marine woody” one apparently does.)

How long do you suppose it will be before there is a perfume named for every year up to the present?
