I’m totally lol. Is this like the Italian version of Streetcar Named Desire? “Stellaaaaaa!”
Haha. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but you’re right.
And now I’m curious to smell the fragrance, too. Didn’t know it was reissued, and I’ve heard it mentioned now and again as sort of a “classic.”
Also, I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around 1992 being twenty years ago. 😮
Ha, yeah. 😉
I used to own this – probably about 1993 or 94. I thought it was so sophisticated. I was dying to live in Europe at the time! I really liked it, but I can only recall a little what it smelled like. I wonder how close the new is to the old version or if I’d even like it anymore?
I found it very similar to the old version. I liked it then, but now I don’t like it anymore.
Lalalalalala! Can’t hear you!
“Reissue” scares me. It’s bound to be changed. Though it wasn’t a late 80s/early 90s “powerhouse” per se, the original formula would definitely be considered “heavy” today. I’m sure it’ll become some aquatic-white musk thing.
I kept seeing it in Germany so I finally tried it at the Hamburg airport, since I had never seen it in the USA (maybe it’s available in the US and I just didn’t see it before).
It definitely isn’t aquatic. My thoughts were “a warm and sweet oriental” but I didn’t find it impressive.
I haven’t tried the original but people on basenotes don’t think it is as good.
LOL! I guess it is!
Joe, I know what you mean. Only yesterday…
I went through a bottle of this in the nineties. I liked it quite a lot, but always preferred her Roma.
I actually like the ad. Far more dramatic than the fragrance, which if my memory serves me right was a soft floriental.
My memory of it is also that it was soft, although I’ve only tried it once or twice and it’s been some time. But I do know lots of people missed it!
I was a Roma gal, too.:) I still have my second or third bottle of it, and I treasure it all the more when I read descriptions of the current version, which sound quite different from the original (i.e., grapefruit replacing the cassis and mint topnotes, which were my favorite part of the composition).
I’m waiting for them to bring back Adrienne Vittadini’s Venezia! It was fresh; this one was heavy, as I recall.
Ah, that one I don’t think I’ve heard of at all.
I wore this in the nineties- I really liked it. Must try it again and see if it stirs up any memories!
Can we talk about how absolutely psychotic the actress looks at about 0:07 in the 2011 commercial?
My take: She looks fiendishly crazy.
I experienced just the TINIEST flashback to Kristen Wiig in the SNL “Red Flag” comedy-mercial….
LOL! Yep, I see it.
Hi friends,
I had venezia back in time.I loved it!
I tried the new version last year celebrating my birthday.
I put a little on a scarf and went to bed, next morning I woke up and thought..What is that horrible smell in my room??
Yes, venezia.Pffff.. I hope I won’t be stuck in an elevator with someone wearing this.Sorry for you who still love it.I know sense of smell change when you get older, and reformulation are always doubtfull, but this one?? I hardly recognize it.So if you like it, only one tiny little spritz please…
I found a full mini of the original Venezia in an antique shop awhile back. It smelled terrific, so I bought it and stashed it away… and never wore it. I really need to pull it out now and give it a proper test drive.
Agh! I am actually wearing a “version” of this today! I found someone on etsy who recreated.
I had been looking for this on ebay. I decided I did not want an old bottle (that someone did not properly store) and I did not want to pay $$$. I was really just longing for the nostalgia of the 90’s. It takes me to 1993. I was 17, wearing big bangs and listening The Cranberries.
Agh, there’s something wrong with me! I read that (and the original post) as being “in venison.” Once, and near “(in German)” I can kind of understand, but in the comments, too?
Eroica,
Same here. I remember I only used a spritz or two and it would drive Phillip wild. He always wanted to **** **** when I wires this right off the bat. Sometimes we didnt even make it to his house where there was no one. We had to pull over. If I had to say anything that puts my husband in the mood now is KISS ME TENDER by PdNicolai. Also he loves Cashmere by Chopard. That’s what I wore
Post Benezia I guess. Such good memories thanks for posting this
I love this blog. Another one that make my husband wild 2, are HOT COUTURE by Givenchy and Aqua Chiarra by I Profumi de Firenzi. I’m so glad I invested in their line. I have like 8 and the Diptyque get me in a frisky mood so does Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile. Smells like Teen Spirit.
Why is everyone in Italian perfume commercials running away nowadays? 🙂
“Valentiiinaaaaaaa!” anyone?

Giggle! Made me think of “Anthony – y-y-y-y-y-y”, though of course he’s running home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNX1QtyG9_8
I had this fragrance in HS. I loved it. It was sold at only fine boutiques and department store, secret stashes. They didn’t advertise it. I loved it and ran out just thinking it had jumped in price because the place I originally got it did not have it. So, is it for sale ???? Brings back memories of my boyfriend and I …in love. I still talk to him today and he still tells me I can close my eyes and smell you. Hope that isn’t too inappropriate. Ha. What a perfume. I would love to have some.
