Anthropologie's Happ & Stahns line has launched 1922 Lily Sanguine, a new fragrance for women:
Evocative of the exoticism and mystery experienced by young women touring the Far East in the 1920s, this scent is a decadent oriental bouquet, steeped in rich, slightly retro, floral accords. Housed in an amethyst-hued pillow-top glass bottle and capped with a sculptural pair of birds, which were major design motifs of the 1920s.
1922 Lily Sangine was developed by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux; notes include acacia flower, neroli, hawthorn, orange blossom, Regal Lily ScentTrek, iris, balsam and vanilla.
Happ & Stahns 1922 Lily Sanguine is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum ($70).

What an ugly bottle! Good grief, it looks so clunky and top- heavy.
my thought exactly, if the scent were any good I’d immediately decant it in a neutral bottle and thow this horror away (sorry, as the Romans said, de gustibus est disputandum)
Right, that top is huge (and ghastly)! What are they thinking?
But I have to admit…I fell out of love with Anthropologie in general long, long ago. Nothing hideous they produce surprises me anymore.
It looks very Anthropologie to me…I don’t like it as well as the last one, but it’s fine with me. Betcha it does fall over though, and Joe might be right that those birds are done in plastic, in which case, no.
…oops, non est disputandum
it’s not what I’d call a hideous sculpture — reminds me of plenty of porcelains I’ve seen. But I know that it’s rendered in plastic and I’m sure that in real life this looks as cheap and tacky as (if less colorful than) those Avon animal bottles from the 70s, which at least have a kitsch aspect to them. Think yellow and green “parakeet” with a plastic head covering the cap.
Oh, and by the way, I’d be more than willing to test the fragrance. I generally like (not love) the fragrances that Anthropology carries, and they’re in a decent price range. I don’t think I ever smelled the other Happ & Stans ones (with the pincushion tops).
The rose one (this is only the 2nd under this “brand” name) was fine. Not spectacular, but fine.
The old 70s Avon bottles were the first thing that jumped to my mind, too, Joe.
Uh, I love the bottle…
Good, you know we like to hear both sides 🙂
Me too – I thought – ooo how cool! lol
I’m with you misskitty, it’s very retro. Pictures don’t do it justice. I bought this for my daughter. The cap top appears to be molded of some type of plaster, not plastic. The “Love Doves” was the theme of her wedding, so this is a perfect anniversary gift & the fragrance is pleasantly floral & feminine without overpowering your senses.
haha, i cant believe its called happ n stahns :-p
“clever, but also deep!”
and what a mixup, the far east, the 20s, retro, and design motifs from somewhere else :-p
Not sure how I feel about the bottle but it’s certainly unique! I do like the sound of the scent however – lots of flowers, just how I like it! 🙂
In matters of taste….. Does anyone remember the bottles for
Nina Ricci’s L’air du Temps? First came out in 1948 & still a
popular scent, though I prefer 1922 Lily S.
