Editorial coverage: p. 42: Beauty Insider Jean-Claude Ellena, Ellena talks about the new Hermès Un Jardin sur le Toit: “I’d already done three fragrances based on gardens, and it was starting to feel formulaic. But when I told friends and customers that we were going to try something different, they said ‘No! We love the garden scents!’ I thought, Okay, but it has to be different this time.”
There is a full page article in Woman’s Health on choosing the right type of fragrance for your age group, but they’re basically all fruity-florals, and they seem to insist that woman lose their sense of smell in their 40’s, and that’s why they want to wear strong perfumes. The only perfumes worth thinking about in that article were the one’s recommend for ‘mature’ woman, and even those were on the silly side.
I wish that one of the big woman’s mags would get a serious perfumista writing a regular column.
Thanks! I don’t even know that magazine, is it good on health issues?
It’s more of a “SLIM, SEXY BODY” and “EASY WAYS TO CUT 400 CALORIES!” kind of magazine. I was in the grocery line for a long time!
🙂
Gotcha!
40s!?! Well, maybe that’s when the decline begins (ha, of a lot of things!) but I really don’t think the sense of smell in most women is greatly affected until the 80s or 90s. My mother is in her early 70s and she still got a very good sniffer.
Yeah, the article is totally ridiculous, as are the perfume suggestions they made! I rolled my eyes so hard, I thought they would get stuck 😉
Wow, that’s pretty insulting to femalekind.
I found the article as a whole vaguely insulting—another idea they put forward was that women who buy perfume don’t start wearing perfume “for themselves” until their 40’s and 50’s. Ok, I know that women reach a new level of empowerment post-menopause, but come on. I wear perfume for myself, and I’m a mere 30!
*facepalm*
Aaaand feminism takes another couple steps backwards. 😛
Omg, I just saw that the guy on the cover of Details is Joe Jonas. I thought it was one of the Jersey Shore cast memebers! These Disney kids certainly do work hard and fast to try and distance themselves from their youth.
I had to Google Joe Jonas. I wouldn’t recognize any Jersey Shore cast members either. I really need to get a subscription to People.
Lol – or watch E! News or The Soup now and again. That’s the only way I know either. I’ve never actually watched the Jersey Shore or heard a Jonas Bros. song. Please don’t get a subscription to People!! Buy another small bottle of perfume instead!
No worries, I’m too lazy to read another magazine. I’m just astonished at how many people I’ve never heard of. I had heard of the Jonas Brothers, though! Just didn’t know he was one of them.
I was quite impressed by the Details article – some good suggestions. The candle recommendations were quite good also. Might have to check some of them out.
