Laura Mercier Fresh Fig ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 31 March 2011 35 Comments

Laura Mercier Fresh Fig

Laura Mercier has launched Fresh Fig, the latest addition to the brand's Eau Gourmande collection:

Fresh Fig Eau de Toilette is a rich, intoxicating fragrance that is reminiscent of a fresh, clean linen experience.

An indulgent burst of juicy citrus notes is blended with sweet Mission figs and dewy fruit bouquets to provide a sweet femininity. Creamy notes of apricot nectar and ylang-ylang give the scent a smooth sensuality. Lingering notes are a delicious combination of warm, rich vanilla, exotic sandalwood and fig musk that create a decadent gourmande fragrance.

Laura Mercier Fresh Fig is available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette, $50. (via lauramercier)

I’m afraid that for me, nobody has ever beat Philosykos.

Me too, it has everything. Premier figuier extreme is close but still I prefer philosykos. Might give this a try though.

Yes…love the idea that it’s rich & intoxicating, but also smells like clean linen. Their idea of rich & intoxicating is not the same as mine!

Those two phrases constitute a ridiculous oxymoron!

LOL. This was my first thought as I read the copy as well. “rich, intoxicating” != “fresh, clean linen” … er, what?????

I love fig fragrances though, so I’ll sniff this anyway. My favorite figs are Ava Luxe Figuer and Satellite a la Figue! I keep hoping I’ll find something as lovely as a la Figue! that’s easier to come by… There are a lot of figs I haven’t tried yet though (Jardins de Kerylos is top of my to-try list) so I hold out hope still haha.

No, but he seems to find it rich and intoxicating when they are clean, suggesting that this is a rare occurence!

I’m having a great deal of difficulty getting past the fresh clean linen AND well, basically the whole rest of the description which APPEARS to be pretty much the opposite of fresh , clean, or linen…..
See, if they had just put the second paragraph out there—I’d have been frothing about the mouth to give it a try…but clean linen…sorry folks..that’s air freshener.

oh heck, it’s fig. So if I see it, I’ll try it. Although I love me some Philosykos ,so those are some big figgy shoes to fill.

Oooh, Jardin de Kerylos is a real winner. It is now running second only to Phyloskyos in my Fig lineup- neck and neck with Cote de Bastide Figuier.

Don’t tend to like fruity fig gourmand stuff. And why even mention fresh clean linen? That just doesn’t make any sense the with ad copy about the notes.

    Run away, run away…..

Oooh – that Cote de Bastide fig is fab! I love the bubble bath and the cool bottle it comes in too.

@Rustic-I love the Cote de Bastide fig too, their body products are fabulous. There are so many figgy scents to love, this is a tough sell, I really enjoy Miller Harris’ Fig Amere, it’s got the balance of greens/woods/fruit without being too sweet that’s just to my liking. I bought and promptly swapped away the Satellite Fig because it was a bit too milky, nice, but not what I was looking for.

I haven’t tried the spray fragrance but I have tried the body creme ( or souffle or whatever it’s called) and it was actually a very nice “green” fig scent to my nose. I didn’t get anything resembling linen, although it was fresher than most of the mainstream fig fragrances out there. I really tire of LM’s “gourmand” line, so when I tried this I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t overwhelmingly sugary or foody.

I feel like ‘fresh, clean linen’ is just a fragrance buzzword that gets thrown around to describe anything. And it’s because so many women are looking for that these days.

I worked in fragrance retail fulltime for a while recently, and vendors would describe nearly ANYTHING they were pushing as ‘fresh, clean.’ For example, two that struck me as really bizarre were Marc Jacob’s Lola and Gucci Guilty. I think both of those fragrances are OK (I would take them over Light Blue any day), but ‘fresh and clean’ doesn’t remotely apply to either of those fragrances IMHO.

I know vendors get a bad rap, but they have a tough job and most of them are really nice to work with… but sometimes, the things that come out of their mouths!

Lola fresh? Whaaa? LOL! I used to work in cosmetics dept store retail and I thought the vendors were a blast even though I would kind of roll my eyes when the house-jargon would come spilling from their lips.

I’m a normally brutally honest person and scaling that back for retail was tough (especially in cosmetics)! I remember I took one woman around the entire fragrance department, spritzing cards trying to find her the “perfect” fragrance for her. I couldn’t believe she could still smell after all of that. Even my eyes were watering. I was totally befuddled. Then my co-worker Kim stepped in. She was always the consumate saleswoman and she figured out that this woman wanted to be *told* what was the fragrance for her, not decide for herself. She sold her a bottle of Chanel CoCo Mademoiselle. That was definitely one sale I was not upset to lose. lol

I do sort of sympathise with the customer because how does a newbie who is wanting to use fragrance to smell good (and remember this usually means good to others) go about it. Now she has tried a zillion scents, can’t remember most of them, and cant smell a quarter due to an over-used under-educated nose. She knows she is not qualified to make a decision, and probably doesn’t want to spend her life learning how to. She wants an ‘expert’, someone who will put something on her; something pleasant and unobjectionable. Then she wants the supposed expert, who is experienced in this and who now has a cultivated taste to verify that it suits both her skin chemistry and personality. Voila!

She really wanted to be sold a story and the romance of it, too. Kim said she hooked her when she started talking about CoCo Chanel and the stories about her. It was the first time I’d ever failed to find someone a fragrance which is why I was so flummoxed. But the most amazing thing was the woman’s sniffer was still going. She wasn’t bothered at all and I had to go take a break, go outside for fresh air, snort some Nasonex and drink a big cup of black coffee!

LOL! I have, on ocassion outsniffed some of the assistants in perfume shops – they give up sniffing long before I am willing to. BUT, I usually cant smell most scents at all by that stage. When, at a later date, I sniff quite a strong perfume, I sometimes remember it having had no smell the last time I tried it -it had been the 6th or 7th or 12th that I had tried then! Its just that sometimes when I have started sniffing I have trouble stopping.

I know right! Lola is not for me, but it’s kind of nice, but fresh and clean it is NOT!

My clean fresh linen does not smell like figs. Or apricots. Am I doing something wrong? :-) LM scents don’t usually work for me, but I’ll try this since I do like figs.

I have LM’s Minute Enchante (which definitely does NOT smell clean – more like a fabulous incense bomb!). I love fig, but I just don’t think this is the one for me. Maybe I’ll just go mash some figs into my Tide detergent & see if that works….

Despite the silly and confusing description, I would like to try this. I love fig scents and the two LM scents I’ve tried are wonderful [Minuit Enchantee and Amber Passion Velvet], so this is worth a sniff. Based on the list of notes, I really don’t think this will smell like ‘fresh, clean linen’. Oh dear, let’s hope not anyway.

I love the sweet fig scent that Laura Mercier’s cosmetics have (the lipsticks smell soooooo good) but this doesn’t sound like that at all. Fresh fig? It sounds awful. And this coming from a fig heretic who hates Philosykos. (I need sweet, not dirt.)

I got the Fresh Fig body cream and I love it, I have been waiting for the spray to come out. I hope the spray is as nice. I don’t know what took so long, out of all the gourmand scents of LM, Fresh Fig is the best.

I’m with some of the others, the description is confusing. I like all of it after “fresh, clean linen experience.” :) I keep meaning to try some Laura Merciers but still haven’t gotten around to it!
