Must try these! I have tried some of their other fragrances, and they were mostly very ‘soft’ and well done, but these seem more up my alley. Thanks for letting me know about these!

I like a few of them, but for cheap & fun I tend to prefer Pacifica…we’ll see, I admit I have only tried a fraction of the line, and have not tried any of these.

These sound nice! Tempted to try…however, just blind bought a bottle of Poe’s Tobacco…disappointed! yuck. Not even a hint of tobacco and just smelled green and alcohol-y…Tempted but….may sample first.

Oh my inner Goth girl wants to try these. I’m lurking on the website already trying to decide which I want. $36 a bottle is such a bargain these days.

The bottles are mighty cute…I really like the one for Bittersweet although that one does not otherwise appeal to me.

I’m torn between La Vie La Mort & Everything & Nothing. The cardamom in the former is really calling to me. I’m going to hope that this has that kind of cloying dead flower smell like fragrances branded like this tend to have because I want to smell like I’ve spent my day reading Keats & listening to Siouxsie & the Banshees. And maybe the tuberose in La Vie La Mort will keep me from buying that bee bottle of Tubereuse Criminelle that came available on eBay the other day. Though with the number of cheap thrill fragrance purchases I’ve been making lately I could probably just go and drop the money on the Serge Lutens.

I just placed an order for La Vie La Mort. I would have bought both however I’ve never sniffed this line & if I ultimately dislike it I’d rather just be out the $36 than 2x that. I’m hoping I’ve found a nice inexpensive thrill.

Hope you’ll report back…that one, along with Arsenic and Crushed, sounded the most interesting to me. I’ve bought 2 TM fragrances, Ex Libris and Eden (unsniffed), with mixed results. Love Ex Libris and think it’s a fabulous bargain; Eden was dull, though not unpleasant.

Arsenic was the one that was grabbing at me too, Boojum. I wonder if they’ll do solids of these? (I suppose I could go look, couldn’t I?)

Oh, please do share your thoughts on La Vie La Mort if you get a chance! That one is really calling to me… tuberose and cardamom are two of my favorite things, but I don’t have the guts to spring for an unsniffed bottle. :P

It’s in transit, so I’ll definitely report back in a few days when my bottle arrives and I’m able to properly give it a test run.

These sound wonderful, especially Bulletproof. And the tropical ‘fume lover in me wants La Vie La Mort. And of course Tainted Love, could be a nice comfort scent.

Hm… as for the packaging… Joya’s Perfume in Porcelain started this trend (even the idea of using an octopus!), and companies like MOR Cosmetics picked up on it. Nothing new under the sun. ;)

Hold on… that’s the SAME octopus as Joya’s… is this some kind of collaboration?!

Doesn’t look like it’s a collab, though the octopus might be stock art. I’ve seen similar designs on stuff sold via Etsy and elsewhere. This type of quasi-gothic marketting seems very popular these days. I’ll admit, it’s got its appeal but if the price tag had been higher I probably wouldn’t have given it a second look.

You’re right about it probably being a stock image, and about this dark-and-stormy-night aesthetic being v popular lately… although I doubt Joya would be too flattered by the imitation! ;)

That octopus is a biological drawing from an account of a sea voyage published in (I think?) the 1800s. I actually have a version of that drawing in a file somewhere from when I was considering an octopus tattoo.

      -Crushed
      -La Vie La Mort
      -Bulletproof
      -Everything and Nothing

I like Ex Libris from their regular line (it’s very green and I can never have enough fig) and they recently added some others to that line that I’m going to sample (Sencha Bleu with hyacinth, iris, citrus, and greens is calling my name). And now this new line! Bittersweet and La Vie La Mort sound interesting. I do wish they offered a sample set. I know Anthropologie carries the line, but the one nearest to me is an hour drive and it’s hit and miss as to what the store has in stock.

A definite trip to Anthropologie for me. I have still to try the Le Labo’s and liking Le Labo these TMs actually sound a bit more interesting (hopefully). Now I have no excuse to stay away.

The Arsenic seems pretty appealing with my tastes of the moment. Yeah fennel! Bulletproof sounds comforting with the coconut/cedar, but the Le Vie La Mort also interesting must sniff. Thanks for the tip and motivation!

The only ones I’m NOT interested in trying are Arsenic and Excess! I hope I can find a store near me that will have these in stock soon. This line sounds right up my alley, but I’m still wary. The Tokyo Milk fragrances I’ve tried so far have been hit and miss- they have a good sense of fun, and are surprisingly potent and long-lasting for the price point- which I can’t say about Pacifica- but a few are too “brash” for me.

Bulletproof and Excess are calling to me, and maybe Arsenic. Hmmm. Might have to try one. I’m being pretty devil-may-care lately – I bought Brent’s Untitled #8 unsniffed.

#8 is pretty amazing and kind of unwearable in polite company. Very very civety and skanky, with this little undercurrent of beauty. Interesting stuff. I’m glad I bought it, because it is fascinating. He made it for people who truly love perfume, since he does.

Well, my inner Goth wants them all to have on a shelf near my vintage shop-find ‘Choose your Poison’ highball glasses-each with a skull and crossbones and the name of a poison. However, I think Arsenic and Crushed are the contenders, vanilla salt having really captured my attention. Must find who stocks TM in the UK. Thanks for the post, Robin- ‘free’ perfume, hooray! :-)

Hold the phone! They also do some excellent sounding lip elixirs- ‘Smoked Salt’ anyone? Flavour notes include ‘smoked sea salt, burnt sugar, molasses and vanilla bean’. I am too old to be this excited about lip balm!

*Love* tokyo milk perfumes. Many unusual scents there. I recently was in a shop in Chicago that carried the new dark line. I have never really been into perfume but since I loved the tokyo milk ones I’ve tried before I went crazy sniffing away (only one I own is the regular Paper and Cotton, a light everyday scent.)

The dark ones are really something apart from the regular TM line, much more dark and complex (not to dis the other line). I went with crushed which is earth/moss, crushed herbs, wild grass, and jasmine. I was very close to going with Arsenic. Bittersweet was not really up my alley, too sweet with the “cake flour” thing, almost gagged a little though I could see others being into it. I enjoyed excess even if I’m not really into orange (though kind of a man scent), la vie de mort, and tainted love (though I own another vanilla-ish perfume from sentiers gourmandes, figue sauvage, which is why I went for the other jasmine one- Crushed). I have never really found a jasmine scent I could wear but this one does it just right for me. And the bottle decorations are fabulous as usual.
