Yardley Royal English Daisy ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 11 January 2011 20 Comments

Yardley Royal English Daisy fragrance

Yardley will launch Royal English Daisy in March. The new limited edition fragrance for women was inspired by Kate Middleton, the fiancée of Prince William, and is aimed at a "younger" audience.

The fresh green floral for women features notes of green leaves, apple, hyacinth, white rose, sandalwood and musk.

Yardley Royal English Daisy will be available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching body products, including a 75 ml Body Spray.

Yardley has recently revamped and repackaged their core line, which now comprises six fragrances: English Lavender, Lily of the Valley, Peony, Iris, April Violets and English Rose.

Wow, that was fast. Or maybe they just had this waiting in the wings for the right moment? And left “inspired by _____” until they got the official announcement. Yup, cynical as ever in 2011. 😛

I was thinking the same thing!
Frankly, I used to love the oval-shaped and beige colored Yardly Old English Lavender soap of the ’70s. Then one day, they repackaged and the soap turned into this ivory color with barely a hint of scent, and the love affair ended.

Hello Operafan. Yardley London here. We read your comments about the Yardley London Lavender Soap and were very surprised to learn of your concerns regarding the colour and fragrance. The colour of our Classic Lavender Soap is actually still the same as it always was and the fragrance is still our signature Lavender fragrance at an appropriate level to evoke the best possible scent. We’d like to find out more about the product you bought and where you bought it from so would be grateful if you could email us at info@yardleylondon.co.uk or send us your email address. We look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes. The Yardley London team.

Last Yardley English Lavender soap I bought at Boots was dark beige and smelled just like it always did – great. Must buy some more!

I had already read about it before the engagement, so it seems to be just a matter of good timing? Or they took an existing fragrance and dedicated it to Kate Middleton, one of the 2.

I wasn’t aware that daisies had a scent, other than the sort of green, fresh scent that most growing things have.

I wonder just how much “younger” of an audience they are aiming for, as most mainstream scents seemed targeted at an average age of 16. Perhaps it is just younger than the average Yardley customer, as I suppose Yardley does have rather an “old-fashioned” image.

Guessing just younger than their usual — it really doesn’t look like something that is going to attract teens, much less tweens.

Apparently they have no scent so like Mark Jacobs, they would be imagining what it might smell like if it did have one. Thus, no ‘daisy’ in the notes.

Oh, I used to love that yardley lavender soap too! And it’s just not the same now. Still, this sounds pleasant enough, if I can get over the “next-new-princess” vibe.

This sounds a lot like Light Blue-inoffensive, young and cheerful. They have definitely took some of Light Blue’s notes.
Except for the English Leather, I’ve never tried Yardley-Are they any good?

Oh! Is April Violets back in the line? I thought they dropped it. I have not seen it in Australia for years and on eBay it goes for high prices. It was my mother’s signature scent most of her life. She ADORED it. I can’t wear it myself, but i was very sad to think that it had been discontinued. In its day it was a very fine bit of work, but I think they cheapened the raw materials in later years. If Yardley was to try and crank itslef back into prestige fragrances, I would be very happy.

    English Daisy sounds nice.

They have it in the UK. The US website does not show it, and I don’t think the US website even shows the new packaging. So it might be on its way back to Australia, or not…sorry I’m not more help!

No worries, thanks, New Yardley products do not seem to be here yet but it will get here eventually I’m sure. I’m not even sure I want to buy April Violets but I’m very curious. The UK Yardley site charges 20 pounds for overseas deliveries. Thanks but no thanks!

I’ll give the Daisy a sniff too. Crabtree & Evelyn and L’Occitaine have shown that there is a big market for good, simple, plant based mid-price scented products for people wanting more than the grandmotherly stuff that hangs about in pharmacies. Wonder if Yardley plans to fry and get back into that market?

Just from what I’ve seen so far, they don’t look to be going that route, nor does Woods of Windsor (owned by same people). I think they should have…

HI Anne Marie. There is a company in Australia that distributes the Yardley London brand and they have recently re-introduced the April Violets range. If you would like to email us on info@yardleylondon.co.uk giving us your details, we can put you in contact with the distributor to establish where to buy the fragrance. Best Wishes from the Yardley London team.

If it is inspired by Kate Middleton, I will assume it smells bland and uninteresting.

Funny though, I do see her as a daisy person. I mean rose, or lily or carnation, violet wouldn’t really go with her at all. The daisy is kind of simple and wholesome which is pretty much her image. No doubt cultivated to the full!

Yardly, over the years, produced or revamped their traditional fragrances, and this seems be the next, tagged with old traditions–hopefully good 😀

I think Yardley have got it right by aiming to a younger audience. I am 22 and had never bought it before but was drawn to the bright yellow spray yesterday in Boots. Its a lovely smell and perfect for a younger audience.
