The Pink Room has launched Darkly Audacious, the line's third fragrance. Darkly Audacious is a "...daringly provocative, suggestive and ambiguous fragrance conjuring a rich, sensually liberating story..."
Panther-like she stands, clad in a column of molten gray panne velvet, across her eyes a sliver of black lace. Through the smoky haze of the bar her dark eyes search, who is she going to meet? Dali and Schiaparelli loll at the bar sharing a ‘naughty’ cigarette and glasses of absinthe. Chic and demimonde draped across the bar… A louche figure glides lazily towards her, elegant, androgynous, dressed in a smoking jacket over velvet trousers Electricity sizzles through the air, intake of breath.. ”I want this to be...?” Slipping an elegant bejeweled hand under her elbow, the mysterious one guides her to a banquette. On her wrist the Panther carries a minaudiere of ‘Darkly Audacious’ their faces come together sexy, feline…audacious! Intrigued. ”Imagine!” they whisper one to another!”
The notes include lemon, bergamot, rosewood, jasmine absolute, cashmere wood, plum, dark patchouli incense, amber, tonka bean and vanilla.
The Pink Room Darkly Audacious is available in limited edition black matte cube with bulb atomizer, 50 ml for $125, or in a 15 ml black purse size, $50. (via press release)
Update: see a review of The Pink Room Darkly Audacious.
I couldn’t get past “Panther-like she stands…” : D That’s some pretty over-the-top flavor text.
It is. I really love their first scent, which is so ladylike-with-pearls — this sounds quite different.
The marketing dept must be a NST reader with a sense of humor
🙂
If Dali and Schiaparelli (whom I doubt knew each other) are both enjoying “naughty cigarettes” and absinthe, they are probably too stoned to notice the panther’s perfume.
Besides wouldn’t Dali want her to be wearing HIS brand?
I just want a packet of “plum dark patchouli incense” for the house.
Ack. That is my fault — a missing comma.
Um, what?
🙂
okay …the copy had me giggling….and eye rolling…but take your entertainment where yo can get it, right?
The Pink Room does interesting stuff, and I’d like to try this one.
I really like the first one. Not me, though.
Oh that was such a hoot . . . I really needed to laugh today, thanks so much!
BTW, being all “Panther-like” shouldn’t she be crouching or at least stalking something?
She is stalking the louche androgynous figure, right?
I was tickled to get to go to the launch for this at MiN and bought a bottle at least partly because Sarah is so lovely. She’s serious about her words, man, serious about fiction. In the advertising copy I agree it comes off as more than slightly over the top. 🙂 The scent is pretty over the top too, but frankly gorgeous. It was desperately trying to be smelled on a rainy cold day and whenever I caught a whiff of it on my wrists I kept thinking “This is indeed a naughty jasmine.” I’m glad to own it, not sure when I’ll find the opportunity to wear it – it may be a case of buying something for a lifestyle I don’t have. But it is lovely.
I like the name, and at least some of the notes, and the copy was at least entertaining!
For some reason I read it in my mind with a weird french accent… this is borderline Prix Eau Faux material! 🙂
No comment on the fragrances themselves, as I have never had the chance to test this brand.
I think the ad copy is fun – it reminds me a bit of a Phryne Fisher mystery set in the roaring 20s that I read after hearing about author Kerry Greenwood here on NST. 🙂
Sarah Barton King is a tiny “indie” perfume house. She is a visual artist who writes the stories which inspire the fragrances. It’s a very personal & hands on process for her. There’s no marketing department or ad copy writers, just Sarah.
Elsa Shiaparelli made a point of shocking society in her day. She was quite “panther” like and she did hire Dali to design fabric for her.
I smelled a prototype of this over three years ago and loved it then. I love it now. It’s rich, complex and long lasting…a lot of fragrance for the money.
Sarah is a treasure. I have no affiliation with her or The Pink Room other than an admirer, consumer and friend.
Thank you for letting us know more, RHM. I was charmed by the story, and knowing that it actually played a role in the creation makes me even more interested in trying the fragrance.
I concur with RHM, there’s no marketing dept at work, simply Sarah Barton-King’s inspiration and imagination. And that’s what perfume is all about isn’t it? It’s personal.
But whether you like the imagery or not, the bottom line is that this is one gorgeous perfume. I bought a bottle at the Plaza Shops in NY (LOVE the bottle and box!) and have been wearing it almost every night. It’s sexy and delicious and well…..audacious. My husband is loving it too!
