Xerjoff Richwood & Damarose ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 16 December 2010 12 Comments

Xerjoff XJ 17/17 line

Niche brand Xerjoff has launched two new fragrances in their XJ 17/17 range, Richwood and Damarose, and has introduced the entire XJ 17/17 line in 100 ml Eau de Parfum spray bottles (see above).

Richwood ~ "Richwood centers on sandalwood from Mysore, one of the most beautiful--and rare--materials in perfumery. Crowning the sandalwood's mellow warmth is a halo of crisp citrus. Patchouli and dark rose tinged with cassis lend the fragrance the elegant earthiness of a premier cru Bourgogne. Just as vintage wine opens in the glass over time, revealing a tale of complex character, Richwood continues to unfold on skin, enticing the nose to return again and again to experience its splendor."

Damarose ~ "Damarose is a classic rose chypre, a type of fragrance known for its balance of seduction and poise. The finest quality ingredients, including Turkish rose absolute and Sambac jasmine absolute are crafted into the composition with a twist with freesia and red fruit. As a result, its heart radiates a spicy lusciousness, cradled in velvety patchouli and precious woods, and deepened with sensual amber and musk, mimicking skin."

Xerjoff Richwood and Damarose are available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via press release)

I wonder what the price tag is, ha, ha! These do sound beautiful. Rose seems to be quite popular this year.

Speaking of rose, I think I am too late to comment on your review from yesterday. I kept thinking about how I feel about PoaL, and couldn’t quite put my thoughts together until this morning.

I think it’s beautifully done, but something about it seems a bit too familiar to me. And, there was a note in the base that bothered me a bit, and it would not go away, lol! Maybe the ambroxan?

I know that many would beg to differ, but when it comes to a “darker” “deeper” rose, I turn to Lady Vengeance, Homage Attar and Parfum Sacre. I know LV seems a bit simple, but the more I wear it, the more I just love it! It’s like yummy caramel patch wrapped around a red rose. Delicious!

    Hugs!

They usually run from around $350 to $700+ depending. It kind of hurts my soul because I love the bottles so much. The part of me who’s still pretending to be about 15 years old really wants a bottle of Verona, but at $375 a bottle I can’t justify it because I can definitely think of other perfumes I’d rather spend that money on.

Those bottles are gorgeous, but I have come to the conclusion over the years, that unless the fragrance is a classic or a vintage, anything above $250. to $300. is just too much money to justify a purchase. There are many other more reasonably priced, and just as lovely, fragrances on market.

On the other hand, these folks are not marketing to people like me, ha, ha! And I am sure they are doing quite well without me!

I know how you feel, the Verona bottle is awesome. I bought one of the last exemplars. The fragrance is gorgeous, too: Very sweet with lots of vanilla and caramel. It smells like Christmas biscuits :-)

I think they are around $6-700, which is much cheaper than the Murano bottles this range normally comes in. But, of course, about $500 more than I would spend!

Homage Attar is so gorgeous…I don’t think I’ve ever smelled a prettier rose.

These both sound lovely – I’m not familiar with this line, but I have the feeling the price point will keep me in the dark for a while…

Yep. It isn’t a budget line.

I really love their bottles too:) I am able to spend almost any amount of money IF I really LOVE the juice. If I really love the bottle, but not the juice its like ah… Whatever, I don’t need it:) my favorite line, Montale, do I care about their aluminum bottles? I have no opinion on them. None. They are not as beautiful as XJs bottles, but they are more practical. What I really care about is the scent. And unfortunately anything that I sniff from Montale ends up being on my wishlist ugh… The next paycheck I will be buying Montale’s Jasmine full, another one of their musk scents that I don’t have yet and another bottle of Sweet Oriental Dream, since I always wanna stock up on it because it’s became my HG. I also wanna buy all of the oud samples. Oddly enough I haven’t tried Montales ouds yet!! I wanna see how I like that agarwood since I loved everything else from Montale’s regular line:) and that aluminum does not bother me even when these scents are pricey.

I got samples of the Xerjoff Shooting Stars collection earlier this year. I thought several of them were nice and I really loved Ibitira, but there is no way I would pay their price of $345 for 50 ml, even with a beautiful bottle. The original 50 ml Murano glass bottles of the 17/17 fragrances make even that seem tame, too–$1788.00 from Parfums Raffy. The refills are “only” $270, so obviously, you are paying for the bottle.
