Note: as always, Kevin wrote up all of the above except Allure. Thanks Kevin!
I wonder how much more expensive it is to include a fragrance ad with scent strip/sample card than it is for just a regular 1 pg or 2 pg ad. I say this because many of the newer perfumes advertised don’t seem to include scent strips and yet Ralph Lauren Romance – which has been around for years – still includes a scent strip. I know a lot of people shy away from the scent strips ever since the Poison-inundated 80s but for people like me that have to drive three hours in any direction to smell most new perfumes, it’s the only way I can get an idea of what a new fragrance smells like.
Er, well, that and spending every last penny on samples from TPC. *blush*
My Elle has Kate Hudson on the cover, and another one in the beauty salon had Gwyneth on the cover. You had Diane Keaton? I love her!
Didn’t this month’s Allure have a blurb on sugar in fragrances? French macaroons were pictured in the background. I can’t remember the fragrances they mentioned, so I guess it was less than inspiring. Or was that last month’s issue?
Hugs!
Violetnoir, ELLE has multiple covers again, apparently. I subscribe and got Diane Keaton (the best one as far as I’m concerned) – others are Kate, Gwyneth, Hilary Swank (my local newsstands cover), Sophia Coppola, Jodi Foster, Diane Kruger, and Kerry Washington. If this mutiple covers thing is a trend, I would personally appreciate if they did a “celebrity” cover and “model” cover, of which I’d choose the latter. But I’ve lamented enough about that here. 🙂
Kate Hudson is on the grocer’s newsstands here in the LA area. My salon subscribes to Elle, and I must say that Gwyneth’s cover was lovely.
I would love to see Diane Keaton’s cover, and Jodie Foster’s cover, too. Jodie was on the cover of More last month, and the photo was so joyful, I actually bought the magazine! 🙂
I don’t mind celebrity covers…so long as I like the celebrity, ha, ha!
I guess Kevin had Diane Keaton. I am off to look up those macarons, I think I saw those and didn’t realize it was about fragrance…
Yep, I missed that entirely. Thanks R!
You are welcome.
I got all excited when I saw it listed in the table of contents, but was less than underwhelmed when I read the actual blurb.
Allure can do better than that! Where’s Frederic Malle? Where’s the coverage on all of the new fragrances that have debuted or will debut this Fall? Where’s the excitement?
Hugs!
It was not a very exciting article, LOL….
And yeah, the last year has not been great for Allure in general.
I noticed the latest Vogue was not included here, so I’ve grabbed my newsstand copy and will list the details here:
Vogue Novemeber 2010
Cover – Anne Hathaway
Scent strips: Chanel Chance eau tendre, Dolce & Gabbana rose the one, Flora by Gucci edp.
(Also, I mentioned in the comments under Angela’s Belle d’Opium review, the alternate Bd’O ad with Karen Elson in black is the first ad of the magazine.)
Fragrance coverage: almost none. Organic perfume Red Flower Guaiac briefly discussed in article about eco-beauty (“Simple Green”).
Thanks so much!
Thank God you were ready with Vogue’s; I hadn’t read it all the way through yet. It was my first Vogue in maybe a year and just haven’t had the time to give the articles a thorough read.
If I may, what did you think of Hathaway’s photo shoot?
I let my Vogue subscription lapse about two years ago. I only buy it off the stands when I see enough articles & photoshoots that interest me. I actually don’t think I would have bought this one myself – my mom picked it up for me at the bookstore (loves my awesome mom!). The Anne Hathaway photoshoot was interesting. Not sure if it’s scrapbook worthy. It’s growing on me. I do like the idea of the “star” as more of an ensemble and Anne has such an appreciation for fashion that she can give the photographers something to work with. Kate Hudson’s photoshoots have bored me to tears. I love her boho style but in magazines it’s always the same smile and her eyes almost seem glassy to me.
It’s Kate Spade Twirl, my friend. 🙂 But, I think Twist is a great name, too!
Ack, am I messing up today or WHAT? Thanks, again.
You are never a mess in my book, babe!
That’s sweet, R 🙂

Boyfriend, the new fragrance from actress Kate Walsh, gets a mention in the What’s Now section. “With notes of myrrh, plum, vanilla and musk, it’s a man’s scent made for a woman-or as Kate says, ‘a boyfriend in a bottle.’” The five-piece set is pictured with a reported price of $80 at hsn.com.
Fragrance stars in a four-page feature called Searching for the Right Scent? “Perfumer Francis Kurkdjian is here with a little quiz to help you find the perfect match.” Your answers to the quiz determine whether your scent personality tends toward clean, seductive, tasteful or romantic. Twenty perfumes (five for each category) are pictured with brief descriptions and buying info.

Congrats again to NST on making Best of the Web!
