Many thanks to Kevin for all of the magazines except Allure!
Just what all of us need to have a good time, a little butt crack! LOL! Really of all things his butt crack? Why? We get it Marc, you’re fun & edgy! Goodness. : )
But I’m so glad Robin warned us! 🙂
Your summaries of these made me laugh out loud twice, R. Thanks.
Oh dear — I forgot to thank Kevin — off to fix that! All of those are him — I only read Allure.
well, my morning just isn’t complete until I know what Marc Jacobs butt crack is up to…..I can get down to some real work now… 😉
Our suburb’s lifestyle magazine mentioned Voyage d’Hermes in its “Fashion Finds” section – which is one more perfume mention than the September Glamour.
Cool!
In the September issue of Vogue:
Givenchy Play for Her is featured in the Beauty section along with a photo of Justin Timberlake, who participated in the creation of Play for Him, but reportedly stayed out of the lab for the women’s version. He is quoted as saying, “I completely backed off. Too much pressure.” (p.538)
Also in the Beauty section is a photo of a giant (appears to be floor to ceiling) Chanel No. 5 bottle gracing the recently revamped SoHo boutique. A brief mention of the launch of Tom Ford’s Black Orchid cosmetics is on the same page (540).
Two more small items in the Beauty section: The Good Home Co. in Chelsea is said to offer tarot-card readings and custom blended home fragrances to match; A still of Evan Rachel Wood in the Gucci Guilty video is shown with a small write-up about the video and its use of the Friendly Fires cover of “Strangelove,” originally by Depeche Mode. (p.544)
Scent Strips: Gucci Guilty, Guess Seductive, Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy, S by Shakira, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Paris Hilton Tease.
In the September issue of InStyle:
Actress and Avon spokeswoman Zoe Saldana lists Avon’s Eternal Magic fragrance as one of her “Top Must-Haves” in this month’s Beauty Talk. (p.376)
Fragrance gets a whole page to itself further on in the Beauty section in a piece called “Endless Summer,” which begs the question “Who says you can’t wear a sunny scent in the fall?” Photos of Chantecaille Vetyver, Prada Infusion d’Iris, Clarins Eau des Jardins, Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia, and Pure DKNY filled the page (406).
In a case of research pointing out the obvious: “According to the market-research group NPD, sales of fragrances under 1 ounce have spiked in recent years, most likely because they’re an easy, affordable way to road test scents.” To illustrate the point, minis of Stella Nude, Viktor & Rolf Eau Mega, Tocca Florence and Tocca Cleopatra are shown at actual size. (p.423)
Coach Poppy body lotion is among the Editor’s Picks on p.424.
One page of the Shop It! section is devoted to David Yurman jewelry and since “there’s lots more to love from this iconic brand,” David Yurman’s women’s fragrance appears at the bottom of the page. It is said to be a blend of “patchouli, woods, and soft musk with a bouquet of peonies, water lily, and rose attar.” (p.496)
Mary J. Blige is this month’s particpant in the fill-in-the blank game On My Mind (last page). Signature scent…”My new perfume, My Life, is named after one of the most important albums of my career. I paid attention to what women are searching for in a fragrance. The ingredients include freesia, jasmine, wood, sesame and praline. You can wear it anytime-day or night.” Reported cost is $55 for 3.4 oz , available at hsn.com.
Forgot to add: Scent strips for InStyle are Marc Jacobs Lola and Pure DKNY.
Not a scent strip, but perhaps of interest: An ad for Prescriptives Calyx appears on p.75. It’s been many moons since I’ve seen this advertised. And in the September issue, no less!
L, thank you so much for all of the above!!
Calyx Yay! I was told this was going to be discontinued. I am so glad it is not. Love the shower gel. Thanks for the info
You know, amazing as it may seem, I might never have discovered Mitsouko if it wasn’t for an editorial ‘freebie’ in Australian Vogue a ‘number’ of decades ago…I guess the execs know well that some sort of exposure is necessary…but I must say that back then it seemed more genuine or something…maybe just naivette on my part…
Also amazing, my born-again perfumista thang could in some ways be traced to a strange Aus. Vogue comment about Black Phoenix etc…
I only bought a few BPAL frags from Amazon, as being an old hippie type, it appealed, (yet I could smell the unnatural aromachems in there, having fooled around with essentail oils for years)
and then my pent-up years of some deep-seated need to ‘know’ the world in terms of fragrance…well, exploded…
but the be-all and end-all , is still the old Mitsouko…
that said, I think Mugler was onto greatness in Angel, and I do like Womanity as an expression of the zeitgeist – they have sort of captured the need for ‘natural’ ( how ironic, when less and less really natural stuff finds its way into formulae), a wonderful ’empowerment’ vibe, and in my opinion, a rally nice frag…maybe not an empire creator like Angel… but trying really hard…
Great story, thanks!
