Penhaligon’s Jubilee Bouquet & Zizonia ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 2 September 2010 27 Comments

Penhaligon's Jubilee Bouquet & Zizonia fragrances

Penhaligon's has added two more fragrances to their Anthology collection ("breathing new life into fragrances from our archive"), Jubilee Bouquet and Zizonia.

Jubilee Bouquet ~ "Originally created in 1977 in honour of Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee, Jubilee Bouquet is a beguiling melody of green lily, jasmine, powder and woods. Laced with persuasive notes of soft iris, violet and amber, Jubilee Bouquet is an enchanting floral chypre." Additional notes include bergamot, chamomile, clove, ylang, rose, sandalwood, musk and moss.

Zizonia ~ "Originally created in the 1930s, Zizonia is a nomadic and mysterious oriental; an odyssey of burnt spices, patchouli and pepper, leading to a lush oasis of sweet orange, ginger and vetiver. Heady and enticing." Additional notes include bergamot, coriander, lavender, nutmeg, cardamom, geranium, cumin, amber, cedar and sandalwood.

Penhaligon's Jubilee Bouquet and Zizonia are available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (via penhaligons)

Zizonia sounds so interesting to me. Really. Wow!

[waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh] (that’s my bank account crying)

Gotta admit that so far nothing in the Anthology collection has harmed my wallet, although they’re nice.

I really liked Orange Blossom… enough for a decant. There’s a note in there very reminiscent of Amaranthine to me.

I really liked their OB too Joe – it’s at the top of my list out of the many I tried.

I agree on both counts. Orange Blossom is nice and has something in common with Amaranthine.

Joe – Zizonia makes me think of the description for Sikkim a bit. It does sound like something you would like! … And I still need to test that Orange Blossom! Oops.

    What Joe said!

I am wondering how Zizonia will compare with Elixir, which is a bit bone dry for me, but has a certain something about it that is quite compelling.

I do love Elixir…IMHO, Penhaligon’s is doing more interesting things now than they did historically.

Thirding Joe and Flittersniffer. Actually, I thought Jubilee Bouquet sounded nice too until I got to “musk” – there’s something about the commercial musk base being used that just doesn’t work on me.

But most every fragrance in the world has some musk chemical or another…

You’re right. It comes down to amounts and a certain identifiable musk base that seems to be fairly common.

Call me shallow, but the Penhaligons never speak to me because I can’t stand the bottles. Between the clove in one and the cumin in the other, I think I can continue to safely keep my distance.

They sound sniff-worthy, but somehow I get a bath products or potpourri vibe from Penhaligons, generally speaking.

Zizonia calls my name. I like the Orange Blossom from this series. Wearing Amaranthine today. :)

Cute name, Zizonia. I keep hearing it in my head pronounced Southern style: Zi-zohn-ya. As opposed to: zi-zohn-ee-ah. ;-) Those goofy stiff looking bows have GOT to go.

…and now I can’t help but think “lasagna”, which I wouldn’t care to smell like at all. ;D

Am looking forward to try both actually. Penhaligon’s is getting more and more interesting: Amaranthine opened the gates, I guess!

Do I smell a possible split coming on….or at least a samples split ;-)?

Zizonia does sound nice! The only one I have is Amaranthine, which I love more and more. The Orange Blossom was ultra-fleeting, as I recall, but I think I have a drop or two left in the vial.

Gosh, I’m so glad the bottles didn’t look like that when I worked there. Those ribbons are ridiculous.

The ribbons are silly! But I imagine not too hard to remove. MY Amaranthine has some silver ribbony business but it isn’t quite so…. military.

I know—it looks like they are surrendering….or at the very least: in the middle of an armed robbery…their little hands in the air….

They need a little military outfit to go with all that.
