Tauer Perfumes will launch two new fragrances at the end of September, Eau d'Épices and Une Rose Vermeille.
Scent No. 12, Eau d'Épices (shown above) ~ "An Indian basket of spices with cinnamon, cardamom, clove and coriander with red mandarines. An opulent heart of orange blossom, jasmine, orris root and incense. A woody cistus ladaniferus resin, softened with ambergris, tonka beans and vetiver." In 50 ml Eau de Parfum, $120.
Scent No. 10, Une Rose Vermeille ~ "A citrus chord with lemon and bergamot with a whisper of lavender. Sumptuous bouquets of roses and violets, kissed by luscious raspberries. The richness of vanilla, sandalwood and tonka beans, touched by the elegance of ambergris." In a new 30 ml Eau de Parfum bottle (not shown), $130.

Update ~ Andy Tauer of Tauer Perfumes has created a comic on the subject of his new perfumes (and new perfumes in general). You can check it out here.
Another update: see a review of Tauer Perfumes Une Rose Vermeille.
What’s No. 11, then?! Anyone knows?
No. 11 was Carillon Pour Un Ange.
Une Rose Vermeille *is* really nice. The raspberry note is not what you find in mainstream scents, so fear not. However, the whole thing is very gourmand – if you don’t get on with vanilla, you might want to skip it.
I like roses & raspberries together…PdN Balkis!
Me too! I think I’ll finally get a sample set!
I thought about Balkis too, R.
Um… did NOT find this to be much like Balkis – way too sweet and vanilla-y, and much heavier, to be similar to Balkis.
Instead of raspberry-rosewater freshness, you get raspberry Pavlova. Not that there’s anything *wrong* with that…
No worries, not expecting it to be. Just saying I like the combo 🙂
This makes me want to try it! 🙂
I haven’t had much luck with roses & rasberry combinations, but if it’s from Andy it’s definitely worth trying!
🙂
I been waiting , saving for this and URC forever folks.
I’m excited!<3<3<3
😀
I “get on ” all over the place with vanilla Mals.
Eau d’Épices is, to me, a wonderful fleshed out version of his Tauerade.
In that case, I see a purchase in my future.
I’m excited for the Eau d’Epicees and definitely interested in sniffing the URV, if only because it’s from Andy.
I’m curious to see the new bottle for the Memorables. There’s a little dread in there, too, though, since I find the new, blue Tauer flacons disappointing, dissonant somehow with the Tauer aesthetic. Of course, since Andy picked ’em out, I guess it’s that I don’t actually “get” the Tauer aesthetic, but whatever, I don’t like ’em!
I actually like the new design, but I am so sorry that when the memorables line will have its own “new design” their size will be doubled.
On his blog most people seemed pleased with the increase in size, but I really am not!
However, I still love AT’s work, and I love the blue bottles… so I guess I’ll have to cope with that…
I too wish he was keeping the 15ml memorables alongside the new 30mls. Then again, I wish everyone sold everything in a 15ml size!
I know – yes, the older bottles were a litte less, er, modern, stlish or “chic”, but they really set the mood for the frangrances inside with those little pictures, etc. But I heard he was having a tough time with all of the personal touches of his packaging, including the various images, the hand-wrapped boxes, etc. So, I guess we should take this as a good sign – in that he’s so busy he needs more uniform packaging.
It is probably hard for all the indie houses to keep up with those personal touches as they grow – the curse of being successful! I am glad though that I have the old L’Air du Desert Marocain bottle with the “sunset” picture on it. But I’ll live with the new bottles too! The sizes offered are more important to me than the shape.
I look forward to trying these.
Wondering if you might be planning to review Carillon at some point, Robin?
There was a little mix-up & so I haven’t got samples yet…
Une Rose Vermeille sounds glorious! I’m very much looking forward to trying it. I also love the 15ml bottles as well, but the larger sizes are definitely more split-friendly. 😉
On paper, I think I’m going to love 10 better. Can’t wait to try both though.
What is he trying to do, kill me? Neither of these sound good to me, but then, neither did Carillon Pour Une Ange, and I am counting the days until my medical bills are paid off so I can buy a bottle.
Miss Kitty are you talking about Ange that you want to buy???
This is to Miss Kitty- if you were talking about Ange and that you tried it and unexpectedly loved it please email me -zebra_cupcakes@yahoo.com
I understand all too well about medical woes and the bills how they never go away-I use mine as coasters! Ha.
Anyways I have a question to ask you. 😉
Check your email. 🙂
I’m really looking forward to trying both of these… but I’ve still yet to try Carillion…..
I’m so sorry to say that Ange did not work for me, although I can see how it would for others, I’m scared to write what I truly thought of it as I adore URC and it makes me feel like a traitor.
I know we don’t all have to have the same opinion and I welcome the diversity but it makes me kinda feel lost when I don’t get what everyone else does. You know?
Tamara – you wouldn’t be a traitor at all – not all fragrances from one house will smell good to everyone! Here, I’ll go first: Incense Rose smelled like pomander ball air freshener to me. Orange Star smelled like ground up smarties mixed with Comet. Lonestar Memories is genius, but I actually don’t care for the smell of birch tar, so I would never wear it. I kind of like Une Rose Chypree. Some days, a teeny tiny dab of URC smells like heaven to me, and other days it smells like fried plantains. OK. But I Love Love Love both L’Air dd M and Le Maroc pour Elle. Still not a traitor – Andy is a brilliant perfumer with his own style. And even if you were predisposed to liking all the scents in one house, some of them may not perform well on your skin or you might be anosmic to parts of them anyway.
AnnS -hugs to you!<3
ahahahahaha ok I know your right, I just worry I'll offend someone's beloved scent, you know they are like our babies!
Your descriptions made me laugh 😀
Alright- Ange came off on me like old brackish vase water, with the rotten slimy stems, like when your emptying out the decayed flowers and getting ready to wash the vase and the smell meets your nose in a unpleasant way. It didn't develop, the stench just got more pronounced on me. Oh how sad!
I probably should have saved that until Robin reviewed it.
But they you have it.
Good for you. All of us have some scent we love that someone else detests. Just the way it is. Now go forth and sample the rest of the Tauers!
Forgot to mention – there is another fragrance that many people say is musty or like old vase water – Caron’s Montaigne. But I like Montaigne – it is all elegant rich florals to me. See you just never know.
I describe Jicky as rotten pond water – and I know that is a beloved scent for many people. So, you know. The first time I tried Lonestar Memories, it smelled like the bottom of a shoe that had been walking in hay and stepped in gum. Not Bad, exactly but kinda weird. It’s growing on me. And the Incense Extreme is quite varnish-like – I appreciate it but don’t want to smell like that – I do much better with Incense Rose. I love Andy and appreciate his work as a whole, but don’t expect to want to wear absolutely everything.
Ground up smarties and Comet? That’s what I get from FM’s Dans tes Bras, which I’ve just gotten around to trying. Of course, I really like DtB. :3
Comet! Sputter – that was really funny. I did NOT get on with Orange Star.
Ann – LOL on your description of Orange Star … which I LOVE! I wear it to bed. My other Andy’s are waiting for our heat wave to end (and what will end it? Hurricane Earl, which I’m sure will knock out our power for most of the weekend). My bottle of OS came in a cool metal container that makes a great box for the dresser, and it still had a little note from Andy saying “Enjoy!”. Oh Andy, I do, I do. So I’ll have to try these. But – at least we agree on Chamade!!! Speaking of which, do you see a difference in the EDP vs EDT?
🙂 Well, I’m glad I can provide some comic relief — I am hit or miss with the Tauers. It happens to me a lot with some houses depending on what kind of base they use – I am anosmic to a lot of musks so a fragrance will smell unbalanced or wavy to me. And believe me, I wanted to like Orange Star – I love a good fougere, I love orange blossom – it just didn’t work – the opening was very sweet and chalky. It is possible that part of the scent got masked b/c of my anosmia issues – who knows? I used to worry about these things, but now I move on – there is always another fragrance to like! So now I am very hopeful about that Rose Vermeille b/c I’d love to add another Tauer to my collection.
Ah, Chamade…. yes, well all of us who love Chamade are in good company! I only have the edt and the parfum, both current and vintage. So I can’t comment on the edp, which I have wanted. All I can say about the difference between Chamade edt and parfum, is the standard, I think, for most guerlains: the parfum is much more compact and wears softer, smoother. IMHO it is all about the balsamic drydown as the transition from the opening into the drydown is super smooth. The edt is more diffuse, wears bigger, and has a bigger opening. Honestly, I prefer the vintage edt – the galbanum, floral opening is just to die for. I am one of those who loves the opening of Chamade, you know, and the drydown is good too, lol. But that opening! The edt and parfum essentially smell the same though, so I would imagine that the edp is still pretty good either way. (I’ve not smelled the most current version of either so no comment on that.) The edp is pretty hard to find these days – you may just want to put your efforts into nabbing a vintage bottle of Chamade extrait on ebay if you can. The last time I checked a few months ago there was a person selling .25 oz extrait at a very good price. And then you get that goreous bottle!
I got my Chamade EDP from fragrancx.com, and I see they are still stocking it. I also have some vintage EDT. I don’t have Ann’s skill in describing fragrances, but I find the EDT has a fruity tartness to it in the opening that the EDP does not have, and that the beautiful drydown of the EDP, which in me is vanillic and slightly sweet without being plush or sentimental, is not present in the EDT. The EDT is relatively short-lived on me.My experience of the EDT matches Angela’s review of it on NST.
I also loved Francoise Sagan’s novel La Chamade, which kicked it all off! There’s been a new-ish translation, which has the titles as ‘That mad ache’. I have not read this translation yet. (Not a great name for a perfume!)
Oh! I should read that! I just never thought about it before. Thanks for the tip.
Now that you mention it – I think one of the reasons I do like the edt is b/c it’s short lived. I just never thought about it that way. I love to reapply it – after about 1.5 hours why not? I am a galbanun ho, so that’s that! Even when I do wear the parfum, which I normally put on my neck, I’ll put the edt on my wrists – that way I can reapply and get that galbanum rush again and again! I enjoy them both. I am ususally a pretty light applier, just so you all don’t think I am running around in a killer cloud of Chamade!!
It’s a wonderfully sensual novel – hope you enjoy it. I’ve not seen the film.
AnnS where oh where are THOSE deals? I can never find Chamade for a decent price on evilbay- and I’m addicted to the beauty of only vintage Guerlain, Dior, Caron like most of us here. lame.
Chamade is so beautiful, like cool, smooth powder with spice.
ahhhhhhhhhh:D
I am so excited ! Can’t wait to try Eau d’Epices. I guess it was inevitable that his pricing would start inching up. I’m not a bottle freak so I was fine with those made-it-myself things you used to get. Carillon is really nice. It’s strange and long lasting, not what i was expecting. I’m curious to see it reviewed as well.
The cartoon is too cute. 🙂
Hi AnnS and AnneMarie – thank you for the details on EDT vs EDP. I love the EDT, but noticed that fragrancenet and Parfum1 both have the EDP also, so was wondering about the difference.
What a wonderful offer! They both sound intriguing…You have permission to use the email address in my user account.
Tried my sample of this today…unfortunately, it isn’t for me. It reminds me of the new “scented” cleaning products you can get now… like Lavender Windex, etc. This smells like a Berry scented windex on my skin. Or maybe one of those berry flavored cardboard trees you hang in your rearview mirror to make your car smell better. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t horrible or even bad, and I can see that it will appeal to a lot of people. Just doesn’t do well on my skin. I don’t get the lemon or ambergris at all.
