Avon has launched Rare Diamonds, a new floriental fragrance for women:
Rich, romantic and positively brilliant. A brilliant jewel faceted with sparkling plum blossom, diamond orchid and the sophisiticated elegance of rich cashmere woods. Luminous, pearlized bottle.
The notes include plum blossom, guava, peony, gardenia, diamond orchid, jasmine sambac, cashmere woods, patchouli fleur and creamy amber.
Avon Rare Diamonds is available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum, $23. (via avon)
The girly-man in me loves the photo of that bottle. The realist in me says the actual bottle- not so much.
‘Patchouli fleur’? I thought patchouli is a grass.
@ least Avon has kept the price low, a concession to the recession?
Well, it’s more of a bush than a grass, and apparently it has a ‘fleur’… but I’m pretty sure no patchouli plants were harmed in the making of this perfume in any case.

Thanx for the link!
just bought the bottle a while back, and it looks exactly like in the picture.
I have to say that this doesn’t sound bad. I like gardenia and amber and am partial to a bit of patchouli. Maybe the eternally optimistic Avon lady who is constantly bombarding me with catalogues will finally be rewarded! Have to sniff first though and ideally not a scented page as I think they are next to useless.
I never smell anything by Avon because I have no access. No idea if this one is supposed to be good or not, but there are reviews at MakeupAlley already.
Is patchouli fleur more of that soft, subtle patch that’s barely patch? All in all, this does sound really pretty, though, and the price is great. I loved one of these Rare/Dazzling Avons back in ’96, but don’t for the life of me remember which it was as I never actually sprung for the bottle after getting a candle instead.
Really no idea what they mean, but it is rare these days to encounter patch that isn’t cleaned up.
I have Rare Pearls and like it quite a bit as kind of a feminine comfort scent. This doesn’t sound bad and the absolute tackiness of the bottle is kind of appealing.
Totally agree on that bottle.
I love that bottle. And by now everyone knows that I am not above buying Avon. As affordable as $23 is, I’m guessing they’ll have specials where it will be even cheaper. Maybe I’ll stop deleting all those emails from the Avon lady and see if she can hook me up with some of this.
Miss Kitty – I love how they tout the wonderful ingredients, then segue directly into a comment about “AND it has a cool bottle”. Kyoot!
Hmm, I think they may be gilding – or diamante-ising the lily a bit here: gardenia AND jasmine sambac is already a heady brew, without the plum and orchid…?
Well, the girly-girl in me would say the more the merrier. You got florals? Toss ’em in, we’re having a party…
And then I think, Where’s my sample of Natori? (The new, not the Avon one.)
On a related Avon note – has anyone smelled Absinthe? I love the bottle and the chartreuse juice and notes sound okay but….It would be nice to find a decent cheapie as with daughters in private school the perfume fund will not be as generous!
Thanks Robin, I will check it out.
Seems like Avon puts amber in most of their new fragrances. That’s okay with me though, I love amber!
the bottle IS kinda pretty lol
I like the bottle in the photograph (although I’m sure in real life it wouldn’t look quite so tasteful!). I am thinking it might be apt for Naomi Campbell to promote this one…
‘Diamonds. and not dirty pebbles.’ *million dollar smile*
Now that’s a rock.
What’s a diamond orchid?
No idea.
Avon do have all these ‘designer’ collaborations, but in my opinion thay do not have any ‘life’ as the scents disappear an hour after spraying – is this to do with the quality of the ingredients? In their defence they do make great bottles e.g Christian Lacroix Absynthe a beautiful chunky green/yellow glass bottle which in itself is worth the £20 regardless of the contents
Not that directly. There are very expensive ingredients that don’t last, and very cheap ingredients that linger for ages.
