The corpse flower is so rare that only 28 have ever been known to bloom in the United States. The 29th is poised to open any day now at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
— A titan arum, aka corpse flower, is due to bloom in Houston. This one has been christened 'Lois', and you can follow her progress at the Museum's Beyond Bones blog. Many thanks to Cynthia for the link!
Aren’t we about in double-digits for blooming corpse flowers this year alone?! I’m going to have to go back and count at some point 🙂
I was wondering if that number could possibly be accurate…certainly the explosion of re-blooming corpse flowers didn’t happen until this year though. I suppose the number of plants in US greenhouses has now reached critical mass.
Whoa, there’s one right here in Houston? I’ll have to go.
