Diptyque Eau Duelle ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 11 June 2010 38 Comments

Diptyque Eau Duelle perfume

Diptyque will launch Eau Duelle, a new unisex fragrance and a 'unique interpretation of vanilla', this September.

Eau Deulle was developed by perfumer Fabrice Pellegrin, and follows vanilla on its journey along the Spice Route. Additional notes include cardamom, elemi, juniper, saffron, calamus, black tea and amber.

Diptyque Eau Duelle will be available in 50 and 100 ml, concentration unknown, and in solid perfume. (via condenast-profesional.es, abcfeminin)

Is everyone trying to make a new vanilla in a modern non-gourmand way?

I hope so too…dry spices & black tea & a dry vanilla sounds great.

Just got my sample (9.3.10) and it’s certainly vanilla, but dry spiced, tea, a tiny tendril of smoke (could be the frankincense) and not a bit gourmand. Really FBW, and for me, with a vanilla fragrance, that’s saying a lot.

This sounds really intriguing =) I hope that this will be a spicy vanilla scent and not like those headace sweet vanilla bombs ;)

I have always loved Diptyque’s scents and the bottles with the drawings, looks amazing. And they always comes up with some lovely names, 2 them as well =)

The drawing on this one, looks like a place in Denmark =P I like it a lot..can’t wait to test it =)

LOL! I was just going to say how put off I almost always am by their perfume names. And how much I dislike their packaging.

Everything is so subjective, isn’t it?

LOL! Indeed! In fact, I really like their bottles, they are kind of understated, as well as the consistency of their packaging.
This one sounds really interesting, although it’s got quite a few “wintery” notes… Sampling their recent Vetyverio, I can see a 50ml bottle coming soon!

Oh, I love the packaging too! Surprised you hate it Bela. I like some of the names but not others. Eau Duelle doesn’t sound so hot in English.

I’ll back you up, Bela. :) The bottle design makes me think of room spray. Maybe I just don’t like the names because I haven’t liked any of their fragrances– guilt by association.

Hmm… you may have a point there, although I don’t even bother to test scents I don’t like the names of and therefore would never wear.

Sounds nice to me. For some reason, a few of their labels remind me of Edward Gorey drawings and lettering; I generally like them.

I can totally see that. I love Edward Gorey- I wonder what a fragrance inspired by his illustrations might smell like? Certainly ink, black tea, dusky roses or maybe gardenias and…who knows! Maybe a future thread- what should fragrances based on fave authors/illustrators smell like? :)

I hope this works out better than Havana Vanille on my skin. I’d love a dry and spicy vanilla, not that I don’t love my vanilla bombs, too. Tihota or SDV, anyone? :) I’ve sampled and liked a few frags from this line but haven’t invested in an entire bottle yet. This might just be the first.

Ditto (almost) all that! I do have a travel spray of Tam Dao, but that’s the only one from this line that has worked for me at all. I still have a sample of Philosykos floating around… that one had promise, but didn’t really do it for me. I get too much sweet coconut out of it. Once that part goes away (which unfortunately takes HOURS to happen), then I love it.

No more vanilla! Bring back Virgilio and L’Eau Trois! Those were the (to me, anyway) most interesting ones!

Though I am grateful that L’Ombre dans L’Eau is still around.

Seems like they’ve discontinued fewer scents than most lines, I’ll give them that. But if they come for Tam Dao or Philosykos, I’ll be pissed.

The store in the West Village has some, I think. One of the sales associates showed me Virgilio, at least, and said there was stock left in those discontinued scents.

I love HV, which made me think that I love vanilla… turns out that the traditional vanillas just don’t work for me at all. SL’s interesting UBV is just too candy-sweet to wear, although very pretty with that woods/smoke aspect. I got my hands on a few other vanillas post-HV as well, with much the same results.

But I’ll give this a sniff if I get the chance!

A spicy vanilla in Fall? Wait, this actually makes sense…This sounds like something I’d certainly try. I like vanilla-ish scents in the cooler months, but the most recent ones (Vaniile Gallante, I’m looking straught at you) Did Not Work for me. I can always hope!

None of the Diptyques have really spoken to me–even when I went through a fig phase–but I just love vanilla and can’t wait to try this out. I’m on a high-and-low search for less sweet vanillas. Will just have to plan to make it out to Bloomingdale’s this Sept.

Seems I prefer my vanilla with a bit of “something else,” and it sounds as if this might be lovely. Haven’t tried a single Diptyque yet… except Philosykos? maybe. (Doesn’t count since I Hate Fig Leaf.)

Vanilla? Tea? Spices? Havana Vanille sort of fell flat on me, but maybe this one will perk up a bit more.

*adds to the never ending sample list*

Dry, spicy, vanilla? Fingers crossed that this is as lovely as it has potential to be! Things tend to turn sweet on me anyway so most vanillas smell like I bathed in cookie dough and moisturised with vanilla frosting. :(

I’ve smelled it. It’s terrific. The cardamom and juniper pop out on my skin and the bourbon vanilla is really round and sexy. Not too sweet at all, definitely unisex as all Diptyque fragrances are (though vanilla is pretty sure to appeal to women more), and I’m looking forward to getting a full bottle!

I’m tired, tired, tired of vanilla and tea. Along with blackcurrant and peony, they top my “overused notes” list. Still, I’ll sample this for the sake of saffron, cardamom, and elemi.

totally funny how subjective everything is – diptyque’s is hands down my favorite packaging in the entire fragrance industry.
