Thierry Mugler Miroir des Voluptes ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 10 June 2010 28 Comments

Thierry Mugler Miroir des Voluptes perfume

Thierry Mugler will launch Miroir des Voluptes, the sixth fragrance in the Miroir Miroir / Mirror Mirror range:

The latest edition [sic] to renowned fashion designer Thierry Mugler's Mirror Mirror collection is Miroir des Voluptes (sensual pleasure). Combining seductive notes of Bulgarian rose, precious agar wood, amber and tobacco leaves, this warm scent is uniquely arresting. Inspired by Art Deco designs and adorned with an ornate gold motif, the flacon is a must-have for every fashionista's dressing table.

Thierry Mugler Miroir des Voluptes will be £94 for 50 ml and is due to launch at Harrods this summer. (via press release from Harrods)

It would be great if Thierry Mugler would release a miniature collection of these. All of them sound intriguing in their own way, but given they’re TM, I’d hate to buy unsniffed as some TMs just don’t seem to get along with my nose.

I haven’t seen a mini collection, but I did find a mini of A Travers le Miroir on evilbay, so I have to think minis of the others would be out there. I really liked ATlM, so am curious to at least try the others.

I still haven’t tried any of the Mirror Mirror scents…was hoping they’d eventually get wider distribution but doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. So long as they stay at Saks in the US, they’re safe from me 😉

I’ve never seen them in an actual store in the US despite seeking them out.
Luckily, they have turned up on discount sites for ~$80 a bottle. Reirien has them as well as Fragrancenet. Fragrancenet has them listed under the “Angel MirRior Collection”.

Does this bottle remind anyone of the (bottles in) new XerJoff (Russian) perfume releases? Those too are vastly expensive, even more so, but of course I would love to have a sniff…

SarahBeth, I thought the exact same thing, as in, “Oh, look, it’s a department store version of the Xerjoff bottle!”

Weirdly enough, the notes for Voluptes sound like they could have come straight from Xerjoff, as well. Maybe Mugler is attempting to capture the niche crowd that enjoys Xerjoff-type scents but doesn’t want to shell out $300 (or more) per bottle?

Must stop typing while trying to eat dinner while still at work…. That would be “scent” and “called”…

Yes. Don’t know when XerJoff went on the market, but TM used these bottles for the original 2007 MM collection.

I haven’t tried any of the Mirior/Mirror/Mallomar/whatever’s, but have really wanted to try that one that Luca Turin described as smelling like Campari soda. It seems like for the price I might as well back away… But this does sound intriguing. The bottle is either really lovely or really ugly– I can’t decide, and would have to see it in person.

Miss Kitty, I like to bang the drum for that one – indeed for all of the Miroirs, except Secret, which doesn’t float my boat – and I have a post coming up that mentions Vanities again. It really does smell like Campari soda!

what is Campari soda? I know Campari is a type of alcoholic bitters, and is one of the worst smelling and tasting things i have ever ingested. Is there an actual nonalcoholic softdrink, or are we just talking about Campari mixed with club soda in a cocktail?

Alcoholic in all cases. Usually just the bitters with club soda, but sold in Europe (and elsewhere?) pre-bottled:

Actually I have had small bottles of soda that are not alcoholic but taste like Campari – cute little Italian things.

Oooh I love Campari – both in the non alcoholic and alcoholic forms! My fav is Campari wtih Proseco – the last time I was in Italy (years ago) every time I turned around someone was sticking a glass of that in my hand. Total yum!

Like the bottle. Notes = meh. (ooh another rose agarwood…)

I still have to try the sample of A Travers le Miroir that boojum kindly sent me… otherwise, these have been off my radar, but the smell of Campari soda sounds nice (Rictor, I’m not a fan of it just mixed with club soda, but as part of a negroni cocktail it’s quite nice.)

Campari soda is nice, and Campari and orange juice is even better, but you know what’s an unexpectedly good summer drink? An ounce of Campari tipped into a tall glass of iced Coke. So good. The bitter cuts through the sweet; it’s complex and interesting and delicious.

Now I suppose I have to go out and buy a bottle of the stuff, dammit, what with summer right around the corner and all.

The bottle looks like it could be either very lovely or OTT. I have a weakness for all things Art Deco so will have to investigate this – not sure about the scent as rose is not really my thing. A sniff trip to Harrods is in the offing… Maybe I can get hold of several samples and share the wealth with some of you stateside!

XerJoff sounds like an unfortunate spoonerism waiting to happen.

If you like Campari for its bitterness (and I adore it) then mixing it with grapefruit juice and lots of ice in the biggest wine glass you can find is a wonderful warm weather drink.

And while we are on the subject of Italian bitters, the first time I smelt Yatagan I thought I had crashed into a gently smouldering pine tree with a glass of Fernet Branca in my hand and some fennel and wormwood on the dashboard.

I love that description of Yatagan. It’s deliciously foresty.

Once at a French Sephora I saw a display for the Mirroir scents that had something that looked like taps? downward spray things? to refill bottles. Unfortunately they put it near the door and they were constantly having to stop people just helping themselves – was really funny. I mean, if you put it there, it kind of looks like a help yourself for free!
