When the internet surfers clicked on an ad banner promising that the "best selling men's fragrance in the country just changed. Want to try it? Click this banner. IT'S SCENTED," a little cardboard perfume tester actually printed out of the monitor in front of them, with a peeled-off area containing the fragrance.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. That is crazy and I want to try it immediately. I also need a printer that prints nachos, okay thanks. 😉
LOL…yes, that would be handy too!
Double Snort!:) Nachos! I’ll have guacamole with mine! I’d never leave my computer!
I can envision my printer breaking down, dripping and oozing….
I imagine getting a cartridge empty message even though I know I just filled with with chips!
Oh for a printer that produced guacamole!
Someone read a little too much Roald Dahl… it’s Wonkavision (sort of)!
🙂
Some inventor in Popular Science this month thinks that we’ll have mini-manufacturing printers in our house in the future – you could go online and order, say, a pair of custom Nikes and have them “printed” to your manufacturing printer, producing them almost immediately. I don’t know how the heck that would work though – would you have different cartridges that you loaded for different types of goods?
It’s going to be a sad day when we never have to leave our homes for anything. We’ll all sit around like Jabba the Hut with our laptops, ordering up more nachos. (Won’t need those Nikes, since our fat little Jabba feet won’t be able to support our weight enough to even be able to run.)
Disney’s “Wall-E” might be a vision of the future!
There are 3D printers, so I think soon nearly anything would be possible. Though the results look pretty lifeless and boring.
Kinda like the cookie cutter fragrances we’re experiencing these days…
This link is not too great, but it will give you the idea of how these 3D printers work.

Ah, to have smellavision or smellaputers.
Thanks for sharing this article! What a cool innovation! Although, it still relies on having the physical components at the smeller’s location, which is just a teensy bit disappointing considering the magnitude of other technological strides in the last 5-10 years.
Anyone else remember when there was some news, maybe 10 years ago(??), about “digital smell” (something akin to smellovision), and that it would be available by that Christmas?? Well….. I’m still waiting for that! 🙂 I still Google “digital smell” every now and then, hoping!
