Demeter Frangipani ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 23 May 2010 22 Comments

Demeter Frangipani

Demeter has launched Frangipani, the latest scent in their Fragrance Library:

Radiant and captivating, Frangipani is an irresistibly, timeless and enticing fragrance.

Frangipani also known as Plumeria, is perhaps the queen of all tropical flowers. For centuries, Frangipani has been one of the great plants for human adornment.

In modern Polynesian culture, the Frangipani can be worn by women to indicate their relationship status – over the right ear if seeking a relationship and over the left if taken.

Demeter’s Frangipani is meant to be worn anytime, anywhere regardless of your status.

Demeter Frangipani is available in 15, 30 or 120 ml Cologne ($6 – $39.50) and in matching bath & body products. (via demeterfragrance)

I will have to try this to see how close they come to the real thing. Closest I’ve found so far is Saffron James Le’a – it’s very well done.

I am so happy with OJ Frangipani….not sure I’m really after the “real thing”? But this one is worth a shot, of course, and the price is right.

The closest that I’ve found to the real thing is Ava Luxe’s, but now I’ll have to give the Saffron James a try.

I’m with Haunani – see how close they come. Plumeria is a hard one. At least I can find out cheaply – it’s about time for another Demeter mini order.

I’m not sure if they’re right about the plumeria being worn over the ear – I usually see plumeria in lei, and hibiscus in the hair.

Is that plumeria in your gravatar, Tama? I just noticed that!

It’s another flower I painted on one of my Hawaii visits – more like a Taire.

You painted that? Wonderful! I love the colors.

Smelled more like a gardenia, and is related.

Interesting! I lived in Hawaii many years ago and I love remembering the smells.

Wikipedia says it’s true, not that that makes it so 😉

We tend to wear general flowers when performing, so maybe it doesn’t matter.

For hula, we all wear them on the same side – the left, whether we’re “taken” or not.

Plumeria does seem to be a difficult one to get close to the real thing. I’d like to try this. I still want to check out those Demeter Hello Kittys!

I got to try Hello Kitty! I thought it was really fun, and it reminded me of the Hello Kitty gum and scented erasers I grew up with. I would describe the scent as japanese candy / peach Smartie / peach scented eraser rather than apple, but it’s tart, fruity, abstract, lightly chemical and fun. It happens to be a scent I’ve been searching for, and I’m quite happy to find it!

Cool, thanks! I loved those scented erasers. I’m thinking about buying the Hello Kitty scent for my friend’s daughters, and grabbing one for myself too!

I haven’t tried OJ’s Frangipane, but do love Chantecaille’s interpretation so I’ll have to give this a go as well since I’m a sucker for tropical florals. And, I’ll just have to give the Hello Kitty perfumes a try while I’m at it. I was lemming them as soon as I read about them, lover of HK that I am. 🙂

This is amazing news. Frangipani is the only flower – or rather fragrance – that agrees with me.

How many frangipani fragrances are there?

And why is it difficult to get right?

P.S. The main difference between Azuree Soleil and Bronze Goddess is that in Bronze Goddess they replaced the frangipani note with gardenia, thus rendering it unwearable for some. Maybe gardenia is cheaper?

The pink frangipani blooming in my front yard smells distinctly of the beach: a heavy, waxy floral rendition of salty ocean air, a suggestion of coconut.

I’m glad to see Demeter has a frangipani scent. I’m curious to try this one.

Has anyone sniffed the Lucy B. Pink Frangipani? I’m very curious about that one.

I tried this in the purse spray cologne.. It doesn’t smell like frangipani/plumeria. My brother was in the next room when I sprayed it for the first time today, he said “What did you spray, it smells like old ladies”.

If I had to describe this, it smells a little like a soapy-powdery-floral.. a little bit like Jelly Belly beans (the candies), baby powder, the tiniest bit of floral dishsoap, and a little of kitsch Japanese cartoon character erasers..
