Seattle-based indie line Sweet Anthem has launched a new line of Eau de Parfums. Twenty of the line's existing fragrances, previously available only in oil-based perfume extract, can be found in the new 60 ml vintage atomizer bottles for $85 each.
Fragrances include Ayn ("An objective perfume for him or her featuring deep herbs, fruits, and spices."), Eugene ("All your sanity and wits - they'll vanish, we promise, with a particularly ravishing, regal fragrance of heady spices and musks. It's just a matter of time.") and Madeline ("Madeline grew out of a miracle: strong-willed, a little deviant, and sometimes just a little too sweet. The spicy-woodsy top note of this perfume dries down to a spicy, sweet, somewhat smoky wine.").
(via press release)
I know nothing about this line (old or new) but they sound really appealing to me…
…of course I haven’t had breakfast yet…so maybe I’m just hungry. 😉
They seem to have a lot of gourmands! Bottles are pretty.
I have a strong tendency toward goumands…and the bottle is pretty…but that bulb atomizer would have to go.
They’re attractive for display but not practical —I’m afraid I am developing quite a collection of pristine bulb atomizers in the bottom drawer of my cabinet…
You could sell ’em on ebay, maybe.
So Daisy, what do you replace the bulb atomizers with? Do the Guerlains come with regular atomizers too?
Up until recently, I just ended up with some perfume splashes when the only option at the time was a bulb atomizer. It is frustrating, but better than a perfume going over long before it should. They are pretty and I love the idea, but I just don’t want to swap atomizer for cap every time I want to use some, then take the thing out and put the cap back on when I’m done. I’m going to buy several funnels and basic perfume bottles from a packaging supply site just so I can decant frags that come with these into bottles that have a standard atomizer and cap because some frags just work better sprayed.
As far as I’ve seen, anything that has a bulb atomizer comes with a regular screw top (because otherwise it’d leak all over the box–which is a sad indicator right there) so what I do is make a purse size decant for daily use and reapply the screw-top. But yes, the Guerlains with a bulb atomizer also come with a regular pump spray so you can choose.
Sorry for being so reactionary, but… I respect their business model (looks really cool, actually), but the fact that they have a perfume ostensibly dedicated to or inspired by Ayn Rand is enough for me to throw the line utterly into my mental dustbin.
Joe, I totally understand where you’re coming from, though I must confess that when an indi perfumer put out a line of vamp-inspired perfume oils that inexplicably included a bad apple in tribute to Charles Manson, I still ordered samples sans the offending item. I can’t remember who the line is off the top of my head, but I did make sure to let them know in the comment box that while I was looking forward to trying their frags, releasing a frag in honor of someone who orchestrated the mass murder of innocents, including a pregnant woman, was in very poor taste in my opinion. Unfortunately, shock is a great advertising tool, and though I don’t remember the name of the line now, I still remember that bit of trivia. I suppose the shock technique must be counted as a success then. 🙁
Staying out of this issue!
Sweet Anthem’s perfumes translate VERY well into EDP format, while looking extremely lovely in their cute bottles. I rather enjoy the bulb, personally and can recommend if you like Gourmand scents, do try Anita. My favorite scent of Sweet Anthem’s.
Thanks.
I’m familiar with SA…before she was super pop (after a feature article on etsy)…actually had a fragrance designed for me…very distinctive scents! (unf mine was in my purse when it was stolen this year!!). Really like the scent…and it didn’t have (or need!) a name…
Oh, what a shame it was stolen 🙁
I’ve known Meredith online for… gosh, 5 or 6 years now. Really happy she’s having such success! What a thrill to see her on here. Embarrassed to say I’ve never tried her scents, but I plan to soon.
Thanks!
Me too! It’s Julia (AKA Tamburlaine) I love this blog so much, it’s very thrilling to see Meredith’s work showing up on it. I’m very pleased and so happy!
By the way, I *should* say that I have sampled Meredith’s fragrances and her blend named Karen (coconut, violet, jasmine) is an amazing combination that is a true winner on me. I love it! A little like TM’s Angel without the excessive gourmand, and light enough to be worn in spring, summer, and with younger crowds as well as more experienced (*cough*) “perfumistas” — it’s a great blend. Has anyone blended coconut and violet before, Robin? I don’t know… but Meredith really hit the nail on the head with innovation on this one. I highly recommend.
Don’t know if anyone has done coconut + violet … I’m afraid I really don’t keep up with what the indie lines are doing with oils, but many of them do unusual combinations.
I was asking if any niche houses (that this blog regularly covers — I know you guys don’t do indie lines often, except for the ones that are verging-on-niche) have found a way to finesse those two particular ingredients in a way that has made it popular. Because to me, this blend smells like it could have come from Annick Goutal. It has the same light vibe about it.
But of course I don’t expect you to know every house’s catalog. I was just making conversation. 🙂
Sweet Anthem is not sweet I really didnt care for it i was like omg! It’s Like a hookers bodyspray not an E.D.P!!!
Ok!
