Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 29 March 2010 49 Comments

Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure

Indie niche line Sonoma Scent Studio has launched Incense Pure, an updated version of their 2007 fragrance Encens Tranquille:

A resinous and meditative woodsy incense scent composed with indulgent amounts of wonderful natural oils, many imported from France. A lovely frankincense CO2 extract makes this a soothing choice for frankincense lovers. A dusky labdanum absolute and a heavenly incensy cistus fraction combine to form a delicious resinous ambery note, while a beautiful sandalwood helps ground the scent. Myrrh, patchouli, natural oakmoss, angelica root, orris, vanilla absolute, and elemi complement the natural incense theme.

Sonoma Scent Studio Incense Pure is available in 5 ($19), 17 ($36) and 34 ($58) ml Eau de Parfum, concentration unknown. (via sonomascentstudio)

Yes! Really nice but not my favorite from the line. Sounds like this has been considerably updated so hope to try the new version.

This sounds lovely. I haven’t tried anything from this line yet (I get overwhelmed with all the choices lol) but I love a well done incense.

Hee, hee. How have they been living like that, Daisy? I ordered Tabac Aurea unsniffed and Laurie included a nice array of samples, so I went back the next week and ordered Femme Jolie and Winter Woods. I’ve been waiting for the amber scent to be available again, and it is, so I think it is time to make another order.

well, I do hate to see my friends suffering so….. Champagne de Bois is one of my all time favorite scents. Anyone who hasn’t tried it is truly missing out—-back when I got my first bottle , spritzed myself and then went on my merry way—which happened to be over to the local school where I handle all the laminating in the “publishing room” through which all the teachers and staff pass to get to the offices and lounge….I swear, every single teacher who passed thru said “mmm, what are you wearing? ” or “mmm, you smell really nice” I had to grab a piece of copy paper and start writing “Sonoma Scent Studio -Champagne de Bois” over and over so I could hand little notes out….

I’ve had knitting students do the same with Femme Jolie and a couple of them actually went online and ordered FB! I was so happy. It is a lovely scent and I think it is a limited edition or was brought back from request.

I’m so glad you raved about SSS, and Champagne de Bois ain particular. It inspired me! I got my first ever order from SSS and included Champagne de Bois and it is AMAZING, by far my favorite of the number of excellent SSS scents I’ve been sampling. So, so glad to see the enthusiasm for Laurie, because she really does wonderful perfumes, and I need them 🙂

OMG YAY. Sonoma Scent Studio was the line that sparked my perfume-love. Voile de Violette is probably my favorite spring fragrance, and Champagne de Bois, Ambre Noir, and Winter Woods are staples for autumn/winter. Cannot wait to try this new one!!

VdV is my fav of her violet scents too – perfect without being too sweet or artificial as most violets smell to me.

I am totally biased about the SSS line, so yeah for Laurie! I’ve not tried this one, but incense and woods are a sort of speciality for her, so I am sure it is wonderful!

Just placed my order for some samples, including Pure Incense! I also picked up samples of Femme Jolie, Jour Ensoleillé, and Egyptian Musk, so maybe one of those will become a new go-to scent for spring or summer. Happy day!

Femme Jolie is actually one of my favs – it is just perfectly warm, sensuous, friendly, and I really like Jour E too – it is a MAJOR league classic style chypre. I love it, but I think it needs some space when you wear it, and it lasts forever. My fav of her musks is Opal. But I totally adore Tabac Aurea and Rose Musc. Laurie has a way with labdanum and roses and all kinds of wonderful things. And she is so nice! I am glad to hear you are getting more samples!

Num, num, num. Champagne de Bois is one of the most gorgeous things I’ve ever smelled, so I’m a huge fan of SSS. This sounds awesome, but I think I’ll wait to try it late Summer/Fall. I’m on a Spring scent kick at the moment, and this does sound like a more cool weather scent.

I would normally associate incense with fall winter too, but I love AT’s L’air du Desert Marocain in the summer. Go figure. It really just depends on the formula. I have yet to test Incense Pure though…

I was lucky enough to be one of Laurie’s testers for this fragrance, and I can’t say enough about it. It is an absolutely gorgeous, beautifully done incense. All of the notes blend seamlessly together, and it is very long lasting.

Can’t wait to try this, especially since I’m someone who wears incense year-round. Really liked the old version, but hoping I like this one even better. I wonder if I’m the only one who loves SSS Fireside Intense. That one makes me feel bullet-proof when I wear it, and I wear it even in the summer – but applied very sparingly then.

Concerning the concentration of the perfume, Laurie has written elsewhere that all of her scents are parfum extrait strength. They are really quite concentrated which makes them a good value for the money.

Owning several of the scents myself, I can highly recommend this line.

        Hi Robin,
Yes, Incense Pure is edp concentration. Procratus is correct that most of mine are currently parfum concentration, but Incense Pure is long lasting enough as edp (most testers found it has excellent lasting power), and I liked the scent best at this level. Also, for formulas like this that are rich in labdanum and cistus, I need to be careful not to go so high in concentration that they get sticky. It works well as an edp — it feels good on the skin and has some sillage but still lasts a long time. I need to add concentration info for all the scents on my website. It’s on my to do list! Sorry for any confusion, and thanks so much for the post on the new release!

You know, she will take custom formulations right? Maybe you can request an Encens Tranquille formulation when you order Incense Pure (if you happen to like the original better). Its worth a shot at least.

Might be an issue of obtaining the old oakmoss, though. I think it became unavailable.

This is waaay late, Rictor – the reason for this version is because Laurie had to change both the oakmoss and the labdanum. ET is gone because she could no longer get the original ingredients. Your best bet would be to ask TPC if they still have any of the ET.
