Roxana Illuminated Perfume Green Witch ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 22 March 2010 18 Comments

Roxana Illuminated Perfume Green Witch

Indie botanical line Roxana Illuminated Perfume has launched Green Witch, a new perfume to celebrate the vernal equinox:

GreenWitch is a liquid, natural perfume began as a recreation of a traditional Chypre. The formulation took a navigational turn concluding in a Green Chypre with sea elements woven in. The fragrance defies genre as it is neither feminine nor masculine.

[...] Please note that this fragrance contains a tiny amount of an animal based ingredient termed Africa stone, the fossilized excrement of a small animal. Primary fragrance notes: A traditional Chypre where Oakmoss and Labdanum in the base are balanced with Bergamot in the top notes, other primary notes include Seaweed, Jasmine and Rose.

Roxana Illuminated Perfume Green Witch is $150 for a 7 g bottle or $25 for a 1 g vial; a portion of the proceeds will go to GreenPeace.

So the last Prix Eau Faux winner wasn’t so far off.

LOL, apparently not. I was all over this until I got to that, too. Just as well, though… it was the name reeling me in.

LOL! Pretty sure she is referring to hyraceum, which is not all that uncommon in natural perfume. Also sometimes called hyrax.

Those animals are cute! It’s no grosser than real ambergris, although guess that isn’t in anything anymore.

What does it say about you when the mention of ‘fossilized excrement’ gets you strangely excited? Perhaps this is a Perfumista level too far?

Mwaahhaaa hah hah haa…never too far! At least…not if it smells good! Sort of the perfumista’s para phrase of the Roger Rabbit line “..only if it’s funny!”

I’d love to smell this, but doubt I ever will at that price. Oh well.

It isn’t a brand in my budget either.

The fossilized feces doesn’t bother me. It’s the price AND Greenpeace that stopped me in my tracks. Nope, not a chance.

Just visited website Illuminated Perfume website for first time last night after seeing referenced on another website and there is a wide range of options available in sizes, material and concentration – including solid perfumes- and therefore prices also run the gamut. Some of the fragrances sound lovely although I have never run across a natural that agrees with me, I may give in and order some samples. Especially the solids…..

I was one of the lucky few to get an advance sample of this, and it’s really good! It’s an old-school green chypre with sea notes, and it may be the longest-lasting all-natural scent I have ever tried, its only rival being perhaps DSH Perfumes Cimabue or similar Oriental style scents as far as lasting power goes – must be the hyrax stuff, which BTW totally cracks me up. Imagine this , real oakmoss in a modern perfume! I would totally buy this if it were not so spendy, but chypre fans should really try it.

      Sounds lovely, thanks!

Pretty sure Cimabue is not a natural though.
