Donna Karan will launch Pure DKNY, a new floral fragrance for women, in February.
Pure DKNY is built around a "drop of vanilla in water" accord created with vanilla sourced from a women's agriculture project in Uganda. Additional notes include dew-drop petal accord, lotus, rose, transparent jasmine, freesia, orchid, white amber and sandalwood.
Pure DKNY will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via condenast-profesional.es, with many thanks to Jacob for the link! Additional information via indiatoday.intoday.in)
Update: see a review of Donna Karan Pure DKNY.
I have to say, a drop of *anything* in water doesn’t entice me. Sounds bland. But then, I suppose there is a market for that.
The drop of water + the lotus sounds like a very watery floral — so no, not excited about this one either, but of course hope to be pleasantly surprised!
This sounds interesting I especially like how it will go to help empower the Women’s agriculture project of Uganda. How awesome is that I will buy this for sure.
I dunno… how much can they make off “a drop of vanilla”? Sounds more like a marketing ploy than a sincere effort to me. Either way, this sounds a little too wet and sloshy for me.
I haven’t seen the details, so can’t say. They are definitely trying to make it sound like a eco-responsible fragrance — touting the fact that the bottle is clear & so can be recycled, etc.
I hope that I am also plesantly surprised because I too want to support the project.
We can hope!
It sounds like a very clean floral. I’m not in that phase at the moment, but it might be nice for summer as something casual and light. I just hope it’s not too fresh/marine with the lotus, dew and other light florals. I think I liked Gold, and am a fan of Cashmere Mist and the luxe version of said Mist, so this should at least be pleasant even if a bit plain.
I’m not in that phase at the moment either. Did like the Issey Miyake Scent though.
I don’t know much about watery florals, but I want to try this at least. Even though it doesn’t get a lot of perfumista love, I like Cashmere Mist (am wearing it today, in fact — I like it for an everyday fall/winter scent) and Be Delicious (though I don’t own that one). When this new one is rolled out, we can all see how much they’re aiding the Uganda project. I certainly hope it’s more than a token amount.
I don’t know if they’re funding anything or just sourcing their materials. Yes, we’ll see.
There’s an online pureDKNY game going on in several countries of Europe right now (I don’t know if you have it in the States) and it is explained on the site that DKNY is funding an organization called CARE, which promotes the Village Savings and Loan Associatons (VSLA) methodology in the poorest areas of the world, among them Uganda.
The VSLA is a self-managed group of individuals who contribute their own small funds to a pooled savings account from which members can then borrow from to finance their own small business ventures. VSLA members receive a return on their savings investments that ranges from 30 to more than 100 percent per annum, far more than is paid by any commercial bank in the world.
This sounds good, I don’t know about the scent, though. I’m certainly not intrigued by the notes, either. I also tend to prefer the older Donna Karan scents.
Thanks!
Will have to try it if I ever see it. I dont know why Im really loving the bottle. I guess I luv simplicity more then anything else. Cant wait. And hey, theres no apple in it so thats a plus in my book! lol! : )
A plus in my book too!
A fresh/marine type will put the kibosh on it for me. I do want to give it a sniff though.
I was trying to think what it was about fresh/marine scents that left me cold, and realized it’s because they smell like air fresheners. (Most, anyway. I’m sure now I will find my HG scent, and it will be a fresh marine scent. 🙂 )
Ha – right, famous last words & all. 😉
I’ll try anything.
Me too. How adventurous we are. 😉
Am I the only one who feels intrigued and optimistic about this? I’m very eager to try. Mind you, I’m a big Donna Karan fan and sucker for a good back story 😉
I’m sure you’re not! I’ve just done better w/ the Donna Karan scents than with the DKNY scents.
Ohhhhh, now I get it. The DKNY are like a different beast altogether, aren’t they? I was thinking more of Gold, Chaos, Cashmere Mist, Signature, etc.
Sorry, little slow on the up-take today 😉
Mind you, I’ll still try it. I’ll just lower my expectations.
That’s ok! DKNY is Donna Karan’s casual label, and at least in this case, the scents pretty much match the labels. I kind of liked DKNY Woman, which I always forget about. Most of the rest of the DKNY scents have been geared much younger/trendier than the “regular” Donna Karan line. This one sounds less young than the Delicious franchise, although it’s hitting plenty of current trends.
No, you are not the only one. I was cynical yesterday but now I see the intent of the fragrance, I’ll certainly give it a try. I like easy, every day fragrances to balance all the examples of Grand French Perfumery on my dressing table, and while there are squillions of every day fragrances to choose from, why not try one that stands some sort of chance of making a difference to someone’s life? Hard to imagine Chanel or Guerlain bothering with something like this. And it makes sense for a project that is supposed to benefit people in the poorest communities to target the popular end of the fragrance market.
Come on, now. Surely they just bottled the dew-drop petal accord and made up the rest.
LOL!
I’m getting too jaded but this kinda looks and sounds like the Gap’s Close.
Still, I like the sounds of a light vanilla rose. Do commercial scents use actual vanilla these days? The cynic in me assumed nearly everything (at least everything available on a large scale Sephora style) was aromachemicals by this point.
I’m sorry to say I still haven’t tried Gap Close.
I don’t know to what extent naturallly-extracted vanillin is used as opposed to synthetic substitutes.
it does look and sound like gap’s CLOSE!
Truly, The First Fragrance News of the year that i am Utterly GIDDY about! Did not know this was in the works, but it sounds so Utterly Scrumptious, CAN’T WAIT to get a whiff! Loving The Bottle, Loving the Vanilla and Lotus and Rose and FREESIA… OH ME OH MY! 😀 that Bottle is again, Delightful! Want to smell this almost immediately! Sounds like it might be a new favorite!
I am really surprised that out of all the things that have been announced so far this year, this is the one that makes you giddy!
Well I am also Insanely Giddy About Oriens From VC&A…. But so this sounds like something i myself would make if i were a perfumer! 🙂 so it kinda touches a place in my heart, Although that New Hermes fragrance is Calling to me like a Siren on the rocks as well!
The new Hermes is top of my list. Want to try Balenciaga as well.
I forgot the New Balenciaga one! that does sound delicious although i do hate Ghesquiere with an unholy passion, that Bottle for Balenciaga is KILLER and the juice sounds awesome as well! Hopefully… Ralph Rucci will release something soon as well in the fragrance area… THAT I KNOW Will be a WINNER!
The Balenciaga really is a wonderful bottle, at least in pictures.
Ok, longtime lurker, finally coming into the open to say: I’ve smelled this! I was at a special pre-launch function (in South Africa, can you stand it?) And… it’s lovely, a charming, light, soft vanilla scent. Yes, you heard me, vanilla. There ain’t no flowers here, not to my nose. I know and love freesia, it comes from my country, and there is no discernible freesia or any other flower. This is definitely one for the vanilla-freaks. The ‘drop of vanilla in water’-thing seems spot on, as it’s light and clean though not quite aquatic, thank goodness. At first spritz it has a certain stridentness, but this dissipates very soon to leave a yummy, slightly ‘dusty’, inedible vanilla. Very, very nice, and should do VERY well, I’d say. It gels fabulously with the ad campaign and bottle design, too.
That sounds much nicer than I’d have expected, thanks for de-lurking!
i am just so glad it’s movning away from the “delicious” apples…and i am so glad they are “supporting” a cause. so even of not totally legit…it’s better than nothing. i will definately give it a try even thought it sounds really tame and clean
I don’t think they’re done with those apples yet 🙂
This genuinely sounds quite nice to me, and am encouraged by lekkerruik’s comment.
As for the drop of vanilla in water business, that is clearly homeopathy for perfume… A trend that was waiting to happen! : – )
LOL — just what we need!
oh neat
another ‘light’ fragrance
🙂
Finally a new release that I feel I can live without (usually I want tro try everything!). A drop of vanilla in water? Sounds boring to me. I’m very impressed by the cooperation with the women’s agricultural project though, I hope they continue this work and that the scents sells well.
The description from lekkerruik above sounds nice to me, otherwise I’d be mostly uninterested too.
It is well done, soft, musky, and then rather woody-masculine with now and then upcoming hints of citrus.
Asked two guys who said it is a man’s scent.
I do not like it for me, but it is quite okay.
Thanks, that sounds appealing.
I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY wanna try this now!!! The reviews make it sound so nice!! When will it be popping up in stores? I dont want to wait anymore. : )
Don’t know! It appears to have launched in every country on earth except the US.
I find it a nice, fresh and clean smell. Really something for spring time. I like it. I don’t find it masculine, but it could, as so many other scents, be worn by a man as it is not girly, pink or sweet. Lasting power is good.
Thanks! Still hasn’t launched in the US.
I just tried this.. all the comments above describe it very well…
Too fleeting and (to use a Chandler Burr-ism) Innofensive. 😉
my girlfriend bought it for me today, and I absoultly love the smell, its got such a fresh smell and is not strong, it has an airy sense to it….LOVE IT!!!
