That Karl Lagerfeld quote kinda slapped me in the face, too. And I don’t really like florals. lol Anytime he is quoted he just sounds like a nasty snob. I don’t know if this is the fault (or purpose) of the press or if that’s just the way the man is. I’m sure he’s much grumpier now that he is starving but has the waist of a fence post. Still, I admire what he’s done with the design house of Chanel.
I think what they mean by “Faux Fragrances” is the knockoff fragrances people sell outside of malls. The scents that smell just like the colognes and perfumes, but they’re in different bottles. They’re disgusting! Ugh! I was watching the news when Curious by Britney Spears came out and one of her fans bought a knockoff and she brokeout in some rash
Well, I broke out into a huge rash when I tried Basala from Shiseido. And it wasn’t a fake. Some ingredients are just likely to do that. Or it happens if you apply and the skin is the exposed to the sun. Beach bunnies beware.
I think of Karl Lagerfeld as “The Evil One” only because of Manolo’s Shoe Blog, in which he was a frequent figure of fun a few years ago. Then there was the profile in the New Yorker, which basically presented him as, shall we say, eccentric. So this quote mostly cracked me up.
Oh, the poor dear is just bitter because he’s on a diet of purified H2O. Anyway, he stopped being relevant somewhere at the beginning of the last decade, so perhaps he’s trying to hold on to his shreds of fame by making outrageous statements.
Also I’m interested to hear what anyone has to say about the “Faux Fragrance” article from Bazaar. I buy discount fragrances all the time and have never had a problem. But then again, I’d be suspicious of a full size bottle of Annick Goutal or Etro selling for $16.
I did not read it, but the industry has an obvious interest in wanting everyone to pay full price for fragrances in department stores. And the magazines have an obvious interest in doing what the industry wants them to. Whatever. It’s sort of like the high end hair care industry telling you that if you don’t buy the shampoo in a salon, it will be full of cat pee. I don’t think so. Obviously there are fakes, and I don’t buy at street stalls, but IMHO it’s foolish to pay full price when you can buy at discounters.
I read that article. It should be noted that it does not specify whether or not the fragrance in question was a knockoff. That strikes me as sloppy journalism. And as previously noted, this magazine’s mission is to convince its readers to buy luxury goods, preferably at full price and from high-end retailers.
I don’t think it was sloppy journalism, j_lunatic. I think it was a purposeful omission, and as both you and Robin pointed out, Bazaar is going to support the concerns of their (fragrance) advertisers first over ours (damn plebs). I hardly ever read magazine articles anymore unless they are about fragrance. Now this gives me even less reason to.
Hmm, Karl has obviously forgotten that’s he’s widely quoted as declaring his “favorite scent” to be Caron’s Fleurs de Rocaille.
LOL! Thanks.
Well, Karl’s really just a fat middle-aged woman at heart anyway, isn’t he?
Ouch!
Speaking as a fat middle-aged woman, I think he should take it as a compliment! 😉
LOL!
Mee-yow! Perhaps if he ever gave in to temptation and had a doughnut, he’d instantly balloon up to 300 pounds and his Grim Reaper outfit would suddenly transform into a velour sweatsuit, complete with fanny pack.
Double zing! *snaps “z” formation in air*
Hmmmm wonder which scent strip will be in the new Vanity Fair featuring a shirtless Tiger Woods on the cover???
Maybe Shocking by Schiaparelli?
I was thinking Sexual Star. Perhaps he could front a mens’ flanker to it. Tiger Woods introduces Sexual Star Sport?
And Karl Lagerfeld’s quote? I imagine Coco Chanel’s spinning in her grave right about now.
Oh come on!
Coco Chanel would take it as a compliment (the middle-aged part, not the weight problem) as she often refered to herseld as an “old mummy”. Middle-aged would be a step up!
Ouch again!

Karl is a very sad person.I remeber when he designed clothes for H&M a few years ago H&M asked him to design clothes for plus size women also. And he got so mad about it and said ” I don’t design clothes for fat women”.Karl has issues.
Yes, he does, esp. with weight.
