Profumum Aquae Nobilis & Oxiana ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 23 December 2009 39 Comments

Italian niche line profumum-aquaProfumum has launched two new fragrances, Aquae Nobilis and Oxiana:

Aquae Nobilis (shown) ~ "This is the real deal in vetiver scents, capturing the soul of this famed and precious ingredient." With notes of geranium, vetiver, musk and absinthe.

Oxiana ~ "If Thundra and Aqua di Sale got together, their love child would be named Oxiana. Although not literally a combination of the two scents, you will find each of their defining accords apparent: the earthy mushroomy heart of thundra and the fresh salty brine of Aqua di Sale." With notes of musk, patchouli, opoponax and myrrh.

Profumum Aquae Nobilis and Oxiana are $240 each for 100 ml Eau de Parfum, and can be found now at Luckyscent. (via luckyscent)

Salty mushrooms? sounds more like an appetizer than perfume….but I’m very curious about the real deal in vetiver scents…..oh I wish someone were here so I could say that out loud—now that I know how to correctly pronounce ‘vetiver’ (thanks to a vid clip here at the very educational NST ) :-)

Oops…confused already. I want to smell the vetiver one. Earthy mushrooms sound great to me, but salty brine, not so much.

Earthy mushrooms and salty brine doesn’t even sound good as food. It’s a little terrifying as a fragrance. But maybe it’s just too early in the morning for me to think about salty briny mushrooms. Anything out there that smells like doughnuts? Or a muffin?

Salty brine actually makes me think of TDC Sel de Vetiver, a great scent but admittedly not what I want for breakfast.

A doughnut scent, let’s see — Britney Spears Fantasy?

oooooo that sounds good right about now! I’d be down with a sugar overload in no time flat! Isn’t it bad enough that I’ve already dumped a spoon of hershey’s baking cocoa and french vanilla creamer into my coffee???

Oh I’d certainly give Oxiana a sniff….but I don’t think I’d like my person smelling of salty mushrooms. I generally don’t like a salty note in perfumes anyhow. I know, I know…so picky.
            SOTD= Divine L’Ame Soeur…. snifffffff, ahhhhhhhhh :-)

Kitty: got any SL Five O’clock au gingembre? That would do it on the baked goods for me!
I like that Acqua Nobilis bottle. Will have to look for the clip so I can pronounce ‘vetiver’ too.
            SOTD: Guerlain Attrape-Coeur. sighh…

Oh, man, Daisy–I’ve really been lemming that Divine! I want I want!! Maybe after the holidays I’ll break down and buy myself (yet another) gift.

Will be interesting to smell Oxiana, considering Thundra & AdS were the scrubbers of the line for me. Aquae Nobilis, can’t wait to hear more on this one, considering how vetiver fragrances run the gamut.

They both sound worth trying! I like Acqua di Sale, but the things I’ve read about Thundra make it sound underwhelming and/or odd.

I didn’t think I’d be into mushroom as a note since I don’t like the food, but D. L. & Co.’s Angels Trumpet has a lovely hint of earthy mushroom under the florals. It’s actually really gorgeous stuff, but I don’t know if I could take more mushroom in a frag. SOTD = Prada EdP.

OK, Daisy. I’m wearing Havana Vanille right now. Just finished baking some shortbread. ‘Twas a good combo.

Tonight, I think I’m going to indulge in some Amaranthine!

Ohh, that Aquae Nobilis sounds so great. Why oh why is it so expensive? I’ll just have to buy Hove Vetivert which is more in my spending limit. It also smells like you’ve just dug up a fresh layer of earth with your bare hands, and that’s great! But not very refined.

ahhh, there’s the beauty of the split. If it’s spendy—someone will be willing to split a bottle up. Just keep your eyes open and your nostrils twitching!

That’s true. And I can’t imagine myself needing all of 100ml of any smell. Even my Jardin Sur Le Nil is only half-empty, and I pour that stuff over myself in the summer!

Okay, Robin, I confess! This A.N. is yet ANOTHER vetiver that really does capture my attention, probably due to that mention of geranium. If the geranium is quite amped up, that would be a combo I haven’t smelled before and that I think I’d really like.

I’ve been meaning to try Acqua di Sale, since I love salty notes, and I also haven’t tried Thundra. To me, mushrooms mostly have a very earthy scent … like rich, loamy soil, and perhaps a touch of “mustiness”, but in a good way. So yes, I’m curious about Oxiana too, and I like that name (I’m thinking it’s the name of a plant? I need to look that up.) I also love Profumum bottle design.

Ha, the vetiver bug will get you yet!

I like the bottles too, and I’ve liked several of the scents, but too spendy for me.

I’m trying to remember if I have samples of any Profumums. I must. I’m with Joe on the geranium/vetiver idea – very interesting.

SOTD – Une Rose Chypree. My housemate gave me a Christmas hug on the way out this morning and said “Woo! You smell good!”

Best gift so far – finding out that someone I positively adore is HIV neg after a bit of a scare.

Oh, I’ve been waiting to try these new Profumums for several months! Oxiana doesn’t sound up my street but I’d still be interested in trying. However, it’s Aquae Nobilis that’s really getting me excited.

In less than a week, I should be in Florence – I hope to try these there. I just hope that Aquae Nobilis disappoints (especially in terms of longevity, like their other green scents – Victrix and Ichnusa), as I’m 90% sure that I’ll be purchasing a bottle of Patchouly before my stay is over (to add to this year’s acquisition of Vanitas and Ambra Aurea).

    Oh, my bank balance… :-(

Ah, yes! Both Santa Maria Novella and Lorenzo Villoresi are also on my list of places to visit (although Profumum Roma is the main house I’m interested in). Luckily, for the sake of my nose, I have one relaxing week to investigate and sniff away! :-)

People said it was a blast of mushrooms at the opening and it is true, but I realised that only after reading comments. I personaly felt only a sharp patchouli. After that it changes radicaly into a sweeter and rounded myrrhe and something else, but very reminiscent of Mitsouko. And the myrrhe dry down is neverending! I received compliments like these: wow, it smells myrrhe here!
I realise Profumum is one of the best houses.
