Posted by Robin on 10 December 2009 24 Comments

Kenneth Cole Vintage Black cologne for men

Kenneth Cole has launched Vintage Black, a new fragrance for men:

An edgy and provocative scent that's steeped with seduction, Kenneth Cole's Vintage Black is for the masculine, metropolitan man who exudes power and confidence.

The notes include green lime, pink grapefruit, dewy greens, white pepper, icy tequila accord, lavender buds, oak and sandalwood.

Kenneth Cole Vintage Black is available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette ($67.50), and can be purchased now at the Kenneth Cole website.

This sounds like a salad in a nice wooden bowl. A scent for the iron chef who exudes power and confidence.

Greens & grapefruit, with lime-tequila dressing? Garnished with lavender buds? I’d eat that salad…

I know it’s a flanker to KC Black, but I really can’t think of anything that would be less evocative of the name than citrus and greens. IMO, a masculine scent with “vintage” in the name should smell like wood-paneled studies and humidors, with maybe a hint of old books and leather chairs. Actually, “vintage black” could smell like old cars, instead: tobacco and leather seats and dust and a whiff of gasoline, maybe some asphalt…

I’m never going to smell this, I’m not familiar with Black, and I don’t know why I’m getting all whiny about it. It’s not like Kenneth Cole is the only one to come up with a scent that doesn’t match its name. And for all I know, it may smell perfectly pleasant. Maybe I didn’t get enough sleep.

It is true, it does not sound vintage or black. But an icy tequila accord with lime might be nice. I’ve smelled the original Black but can’t remember it at all…

An icy tequila accord with lime sounds GREAT. It’s the pepper that has me worried.

For whatever reason, I read the title of this as “Kenneth Cole: Warning New Black Fragrance.” I’m not sure if it’s my eyesight that’s going, or my mind…

I think it was a natural mistake. After all, it’s rather oxymoronic (if not just plain moronic) to name a NEW fragrance, Vintage anything.

Edgy? Where? I didn’t find an “edgy” note in the list.

LOL…true, not likely to be edgy. But it might be nice!

It sounds like lunchtime at a Mexican restaurant. Pass the Jose Cuervo!

Nothing exudes masculinity, power, and confidence like pink grapefruit and lavender buds.

my thoughts exactly! and you could have the butchest notes you want in there, and “dewy greens” would still undermine ’em all. I really wish the copy was “sparkling” pink grapefruit.

looks like it would be crisp and clean. I think I could have a place for this in my summer wardrobe. Certainly would like to sniff this.

Don’t know. Didn’t like any scent of Kenneth Cole, especially Reaction: it made me feel sick.
