Posted by Robin on 3 December 2009 26 Comments

Orlane Les bouquets d'Orlane

Coming this month from Orlane will be Les bouquets d'Orlane, a collection of four new floral fragrances: Autour de la rose, Autour du muguet, Autour de l'iris and Autour du coquelicot.

Autour de la rose is a romantic rose scent with musky accents developed by perfumer Karine Dubreuil.

Autour du muguet is a sophisticated lily of the valley with green accents from perfumer Olivier Gillotin.

Autour de l'iris is a refined iris with aldehydic accents from perfumer Enrico Scartezzini.

Autour du coquelicot is a spicy oriental inspired by the poppy, and was developed by perfumer Shyamala Maisondieu.

Orlane Les bouquets d'Orlane Autour de la rose, Autour du muguet, Autour de l'iris and Autour du coquelicot will be available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette for 48€ each. (via cosmetiquemag.fr, aufeminin)

Ooh, I need to find a good lily of the valley, and this one sounds good. What’s everyone’s favorite muguet, if y’all don’t mind telling me?

Hi, Andrea: Diorissimo, of course! But it can verge on death by muguet sometimes, if the weather’s warm.

I’ve been trying to get my hands on a vintage bottle for a while now. 🙂 Thanks for the tip, though – I wasn’t sure if it was a perfect muguet or a study on the possibility of a muguet (and lord knows no one has it in stock so that I can sniff it).

          Saks has it.

are you looking for some of the new stuff? I have a little I can send you. PM me at MUA (same name), if you’d like some of the new to try. I’ve never tried the vintage.

Thanks! I’ve seen the new stuff at Saks, but rumor had it that it wasn’t as good? I was looking for vintage, and I think I might have found some on eBay – it’s so hard to know with all of the reformulations.

Ditto: Diorissimo. I have not smelled the new version though.

The reformulated Diorissimo is less muguet, more citrussy, sadly. Another beautiful lily of the valley is CdG’s Lily. That’s discontinued too, I think.

These Orlanes sound okay but not particularly ground-shaking. Quite pricey too, actually.

Luckyscent has Lily – I just ordered a sample yesterday, actually. 🙂

Okay you all –NO PITCHFORKS OR TORCHES but for LOTV I prefer Delrae Debut and the VCA Muguet Blanc is nice too. Diorissimo can get a heavy almost oily note on me…. that can get overwhelming quite easily. y’all can stop gasping at my heresy now.

Oh, I do so want to try Autour du coquelicot! It sounds like it will be amazing. But given my love for florals, I will undoubtedly try all of these at some point. 🙂

I will certainly try them all…assuming they get to Neiman Marcus, which they probably will eventually.

I will definitely have to hunt this one down. I have a special place for coquelicots (to the point that I have some tattooed on my side). And no, they don’t smell of anything but I think I do not care.

A poppy scent! That’s something I haven’t sniffed yet (or not knowingly anyway) – looking forward to getting a spray of this.

Poppies have no smell, so this is just “inspired by” (as was Kenzo’s Flower)

I bet they’ll be cheaper here in South America.
Orlane’s fragrances here are in perpetual discount, and that makes them very popular 🙂

Fleur d’Orlane was a huge hit here in the early 90’s

Oh, lucky you then…although have to admit I don’t know what any of them cost here!

        Ok, here goes the micro-review:

They were better than what I expected!
I might sound completely crazy, but I believe these frags smell “more expensive” than the D&G tarot lot. I mean those smelled terribly cheap to me and were a big dissapointment. These are not great, but at least the concept IS humble for starters! 🙂

Autour de la rose: Nice, it is a very soft (but not as weak as you may think) Rose.. but not what I associate with Bulgarian rose… more like L’Occitane’s Rose de nuit de mai (wild rose and a hint of something smokey like sandalwood)

Autour du muguet : Soft muguet, not very very green, but not powdery either… the softest and more fleeting of the lot. A little run-of -the-mill-synthetic-muguet once it dries down. But nice overall.

Autour de l’iris: Very nice and powdery but in a good way! I believe I am starting to develop an acquired taste for Iris 🙂 Does not smell half as cheap as one may expect.

Autour du coquelicot : nothing special here… a “purple” floral (I cannot describe it any other way.. perhaps powdery lilacs) and an underlying camphorous note that contrasts a bit in the drydown. It is the most “old lady” smelling of the bunch, and the least interesting IMHO. But as Poppies have no smell, I guess everything goes. 🙂

These are about 50u$s here in Buenos Aires, so I guess they are just in line with the launch price. I guess they will lower them later.
Final verdict: nice bang for the buck. Very decent and excellent “giftables” as Orlane is, at least in my book, a nice house, a little off the beaten path, but with the benefit of mass-production costs.

And a clarification, all were tested on paper, but I took them carefully separated from each other with me for several hours to determine strength and evolution.

They’ve said the magic word: IRIS and I happen to like some aldehydes too.

Iris + aldehydes is fine with me too.
