The smell of something rotten is blooming in Wisconsin. Officials at the Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison said the "titan arum," better known as the "corpse flower" is sprouting.
— From Corpse Flower To Bloom in Wisconsin. You can read more at the Olbrich Botanical Gardens website (and scroll down for lots of photos). If anyone goes to see (smell!) it, do report back.
I recently observed the flower blooming in Sf, and it really reeks! The color is beautiful though, a lovely deep burgundy-red color.
I would so love to see one! The photos at the Olbrich site are great.
I saw one at a nearby U two years ago. The sheer size and reek of the inflorescence is very impressive.
That’s what I hear!
There was a nearby bloom a couple of years ago that I missed…this one is a few hours’ drive…but in the interest of reporting, I may need to go!!
Where are you? It’s about a 4 hr drive for me, too (western burbs of the Twin Cities).
How perfect for a “corpse flower” to bloom right before Halloween!
Yes, isnt’ that perfect?
On my way over; will report back this weekend!
Oh cool — have fun!!
