Floris Snow Rose & Rose Musquee ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 29 October 2009 44 Comments

Floris Snow Rose

Floris has launched two limited edition rose fragrances, Snow Rose and Rose Musquée.

Snow Rose (shown above) is a floriental:

A sunlit unfolding of warmly scented rose petals crystallised within a winter wonderland.

Icy cool leafy green top notes introduce the rich and vibrant floral heart of rose, enriched with geranium and jasmine. Warmed with soft sweet oriental base notes of vanilla, musk and sandalwood.

Floris Snow Rose is available in 50 ml Eau de Toilette, £35.

Rose Musquée was created for Breast Cancer Awareness Month; 20% of the proceeds will go to Cancerkin.

Fresh leafy green notes enhance the delicate rose water accord that introduces the vibrant heart of rose and jasmine and lead to the soft sensual base notes of sandalwood, amber and musk in an expression of ultimate femininity.

Floris Rose Musquée is £75 for 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via florislondon)

Gosh, both of these smell sniff worthy… Very pretty by the descriptions. Anything that opens with green notes and then leads to rose, well, I’m interested.

I like that they state right out front 20% of the profit. Sometimes when I read ” a portion of the profits go to save pinetrees…” I think yeah, a portion….1%…less? Guess I’m a cynic.
ok, not ALWAYS a cynic—I have to leave now to go do my weekly volunteering gig ! See y’all later…..Robin better not slip in an open thread on me today—I’ll miss the whole darn thing! wahhhh

Yes they do! Floris is hard for me to get my hands on, unfortunately.

If you meant in person, yes, I’ve never seen it anywhere, but there’s an online place called London’s Bathecary that carries most of the line.

I meant in person — like “get my hands on a tester” :-)

NM does have a few of them, or they used to. But not the whole line. And haven’t seen Malmaison in ages, and IMHO that was their best.

I don’t recall ever hearing anything positive about Floris, but these both sound really good. They had me at the crystallized rose petals.

They have not managed to successfully shake their “staid British” reputation, as has Penhaligon’s…but they’re also poorly distributed in the US at the moment, and much harder to sample.

Penhaligon’s is certainly changing with Duchaufour’s Amaranthine, mind you! Like it or not, Amaranthine will not remind you of powder used by elderly ladies after a bath, like many other Penhaligon fragrances.

As for Floris, I fell in love with the impossible-to-get-outside-of-the- UK, limited edition, Madonna of the Almonds. A fresh, comforting and lively take on almond blossoms. I’m hoarding my samples……

Yes, shame it’s not possible to try the Almond one here, it sounded interesting.

Almonds work for me. The closest I can get to that is smelling the extract a grocery store!

Hi Dolly – if you like Almonds you should try the Montale Powder Flowers which is a powdery aldehyde that has a definite soft nutty almond thing going on….

The “staid British thing” is right. I think I’ve mentally lumped them in with some of the other watery, single-note things I’ve come to expect. Maybe that’s not fair of me. I guess if I could get my hands on these I could give them a fair shot. :(

More roses to sniff! This reminds me, can anyone recommend a good juicy rose frag? I’m on the hunt for one and there was something really compelling about P.S. I Love You, but there’s that Bath and Body works element that your nose just can’t escape and that’s what killed it for me.

Of course there’s a gazillion rose fragrances…but the phrase “juicy rose” immediately brought to mind MPG Rose Muskissime. I have only smelled the PS I love you lotion and was not impressed at all, and have no idea what the rose in the Edt would be like. So I can’t make a comparison. If you haven’t tested Rose Muskissime drop me a note at Daisyloo82@gmail dot com and I can send you a vial. I have a number of rose scents…flirty rose, hot&heavy rose, slutty rose, sophisticated rose, cool drink on a hot day rose…but juicy rose makes me think : Rose Muskissime. :-)

I second that recommendation on Rose Muskissime. The combo of rose and blood orange is definitely juicy. Yum.

Thanks Teri and Daisy! This sounds right up my alley. And you’re right, P.S. didn’t impress me so much as give me an idea that “juicy rose” was something I wanted to investigate further.

Daisy, you’re too kind by far, and too funny. Now whenever is think of slutty rose I think of you’re cry “That Slut Tocade”!

Depending on what you mean by “juicy”, I really like Un Zeste de Rose by Les Parfums de Rosine (rose/citrus/tea). They do quite a few nice ones. You could check out their website for lots more ideas…There’s a rose for everyone there :)

yum, yes ! Zeste de Rose is zippy juicy where MPG RM is more succulent juicy….does that make sense? (we wouldn’t want to confuse the juicies.)

I love the name Snow Rose too and it made me wonder it the new Floris would be like Rose Kashmirie at all, which I see as a wintry, green, though also spicy floriental. I am a born again lover of geranium, so Snow Rose is a must try for me!

I do like the name Snow Rose , it combines two notes that would feature in my fantasy scent – “A sunlit unfolding of warmly scented rose petals crystallised within a winter wonderland” sounds alright to me! Will definitely be seeking a sniff of this when I’m in London on Monday.

Speaking of perfumes that are difficult to obtain outside of the UK, if at some point anybody does have anything they particularly want, do feel free to send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to post it over :).
