Leslie Blodgett, CEO of the beauty line Bare Escentuals, has launched a new brand, Perfume Diaries. Bare Skin is the debut fragrance in a projected series of limited edition scents, "each one inspired by the pages of her own diary":
Imagine you're on a tropical beach. The warm rays are beating down on you. There is nothing on the agenda for days, save for sunbathing, sipping umbrella drinks and sleeping in. Leslie Blodgett has captured the ultimate vacation through fragrance with this intoxicating blend of creamy sensuality, dreamy florals and sexy musks. Glowing, gorgeous sun-kissed skin that just begs to be touched is at the heart of this limited-edition scent.
Bare Skin was developed by perfumer Stephen Nilsen; the notes feature black pepper, freesia, anise, iris, vanilla orchid, plumeria, patchouli, sandalwood, labdanum and musk.
Leslie Blodgett Perfume Diaries Bare Skin is available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum (above left; $55) or .07 oz solid perfume (above right; $35), and can be purchased now at Sephora. (quote via sephora, additional information via facebook.com/LeslieBlodgettPerfumeDiaries)
Sound like this one is going to be sweet. Should i be excited that they went with black pepper instead of pink?
LOL…perhaps!
Sounds like it’s worth a sniff while in Sephora.
Yep.
They’re giving away a sample right now with purchase. (Along with four other samples, none of which I paid any attention to.)
Yes, it’s free with any purchase at Sephora, and check around for coupon codes for other free trials sizes to add to your order (Yes, I’m a Sephora make up junkie).
I admit to liking the idea of fragrance diaries – scents that are based on personal experiences. (I think that would be a great Thursday poll sometime: “Name a scent that when you tried it on, it vividly recalled to you a personal experience,” something like that.)
But this scent seems in concept more like the travel-series things we’ve seen before from, except less interesting. Yeah, yeah, a tropical vacation, been there done that, yada yada… safe and inoffensive. I want to smell something like, oh, Memories of Dance Class. Or, My Year of French Cooking School. Or, My Date With That Really Hot Guy from My FORTRAN Programming Class. Or, Trip to New Zealand. Or, Appearing in a Performance of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
On the other hand, maybe I wouldn’t actually want to wear those. Never mind…
I’d actually much rather try “Trip to New Zealand” any day instead of “My Fantasy Tropical Luxury Beach Vacation.”
And sorry, but “inspired by the pages of her own diary” made me laugh. Call me when they do a series inspired by the pages of Dorothy Parker’s or Beryl Markham’s diaries.
Oh, two great ideas! Dorothy Parker diaries would have to be done by CdG.
Or by Beefeater.
Yeah, that too.
(New Zealand smelled pretty good, yeah.)
And gosh, I’d love to smell your two diary-inspired scents!
Memories of Dance Class — GREAT perfume name!
Looks like you have your entry for the Prix, there, mals! 😀
Ooh… I think that’s an awesome poll questions – I can think of three fragrances right off the top of my head that provoked powerful scent-memories the first time that I smelled them. Of course, only one is probably suitably PG. 😉
Can we hear more about this fellow from your Fortran class?
I agree with Joe on all points. I had to laugh a little, thinking that a fragrance inspired by my hypothetical diary would have to evoke day after day of boring office work, bracketed by episodes of commuting in heavy traffic.
And we’d have to have a scent to recall all those Endless Unproductive Conference Calls.
LOL!
I suppose “Boring Monotony” in most people’s diaries would be covered by most of the recent releases ths past year ….
So, so true.
A piece of ‘diaries and scents’ trivia: Anais Nin’s diary makes frequent references to Mitsouko. When I read it the first time in college, I imagined Mitsouko to be the most glamourous and mysterious perfume ever. Right on.
Oh, entirely forgot that! And I’m sure I didn’t notice when I read them years & years ago.
Lets hope she doesn’t work part time in a rest home.
🙂
I think it sounds tasty. Safe and tasty. I’d consider it for summer, I think….
…but the thing is that her name in REALLY BIG LETTERS and the whole “from my own diary” bit are just too much. It makes it look celebuscent-y (a ‘fume bias I just can’t seem to overcome).
I don’t like that label either!
I’m employed at a diagnostic lab- I imagine my work scent diary might be along the lines of Secretions Magnifique.
Don’t want to smell that!
I’m employed at a certain massive pro-sample cosmetics retailer. My diary would smell like trying to eat pizza with Angel/Light Blue/YSL Homme/Polo Black scented hands.
HA!
I recieved a sample of this with a recent Sephora order. It has a similar fell to EL Sensuous.
Well that sounds good!
I got it too, and it also has a similarity to the first Laura Mercier Nuits Enchantess… there’s nothing tropical or beachy about this at all.
The black pepper is front and center in the opening and the orchid comes out a few minutes after applying – not too sweet and certainly not gourmand. Interesting.
Thanks!
I had no idea who made it when I triedthis one at Sephora.
Did not recognize the name Leslie Blodgett from the infomercials. I would probably have avoided it if I had known, as that’s not an “image ” (hard sell , faux-chat infomercial) that appeals to me. I was simply drawn to it because it was new to me.
I gave it a spritz and and was immediately intrigued. Pepper in the top and a nice, almost strange, but ultimately easy-to-wear, gentle spiciness through and through.
As al theprettythings says, there is *nothing* tropical about it. I wouldn’t call it beachy, either–though it wears well in hot weather.
Not sweet, not gourmand.
I would call it a highly wearable, inoffensive, close-to-the skin, gently spicy, not too feminine oriental. There is something strange (in a good way) about it. But I suspect the the most offensive thing about it is that some will find it boring.
Lasts forever.
