The Body Shop Love Etc fragrance

The Body Shop has launched Love Etc, a new fragrance for women:

The perfume of love as a universal force…the first ever emotional-led fragrance at The Body Shop. A highly addictive, warm and radiant fragrance which embodies the exuberance and personality of our brand.

The notes include pear, neroli, bergamot, jasmine, heliotrope, lily of the valley, vanilla, sandalwood and creamy musk.

The Body Shop Love Etc is available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum (£11.70) and in matching body products. (via thebodyshop.co.uk)

Oh sounds nice, I like pear and the last editions of TBS were quite nice.
I like TBS because they are affordable, but do not smell like the Celeb-sugar scents.

BTW: I never told you I love your webdesign!
The colours are wonderful! And the structure is perfect.
    Really good.

Does this have anything to do with the recent Pet Shop Boys song of the same name? Because if it doesn’t, I’m kind of confused.

I am very confused by the contention that it’s the first “emotional-led fragrance at The Body Shop” or anywhere else, since scent taps into the emotions faster and more reliably than pretty much anything else you can name.

    Also, ADDICTIVE!

Like most everything else in the entire universe these days, you can find the video for it on YouTube. You won’t like it if you don’t like electropop dance music, but otherwise, very good: typically pointed, snarky, cynical PSB–you can dance to it while simultaneously feeling judgemental and alienated.

I see the new perfume has an outher packaging, that’s not very ecological… even if it’s cute. The Body Shop never used to do that in the past.

I think that for the price, TBS makes rather enjoyable fragrances. I even consider White Musk as a classic.

Neroli Jasmin smells a bit like Armani Code for women.

Didn’t someone buy them out after what’s her name died?

I know, that was clear as mud. :(

Yeah, they’re part of L’Oreal, but they were sold several years before Anita Roddick passed.

I think TBS really needs some help working on … branding.. despite that ad copy’s assertion otherwise. Seriously, I feel like they’ve lost sight of something and are now just an alterna-BBW.

HA…I watched the first half of Duplicity last night, so the first thing I thought of when I saw the name was industrial espionage !

That’s the Clive Owen flick, right? I’m not sure what it’s about, but what about the name evokes espionage?

It’s about industrial espionage…fun movie, at least so far. And the new BBW is called PS I Love You.

          Sorry, that was rather obscure!

I dunno, but I couldn’t get past the first 15 minutes of Duplicity – what a shame since I like Clive Owen and Julia Roberts.

I’m liking it, but I also liked Gilroy’s last film (Michael Clayton) and this one has a very similar feel to me.

That reminds me: I work at a library and a couple of days ago an elderly woman came in and was talking about movies she had recently seen. Duplicity came up and she said the plot was a bit wonky but she watched the whole thing anyway because of “What’s his name Owens.” Too funny! Then we all had a moment thinking about the hotness that is Clive Owens.

          • Robin says:
            10 September 2009 at 10:01 pm

It’s funny because I just don’t find him hot at all, and Julia Roberts is not at her most attractive in this movie either. Still, it’s an interesting movie!

          • Joe says:
            10 September 2009 at 11:34 pm

And I’m thinking Clive Owen MIGHT make sitting through an entire Julia Roberts movie bearable. [[shudders]]

      • Tamarind says:
        12 September 2009 at 3:43 am

That movie was fun. Clive Owens gives me jollies and the name is very similar to the BBW one. But I would think maybe save those names for VDay releases.

I like Body Shops body butters, not found of their perfume.

Joe, I had the very same thought sitting here comparing the similarities between the product lines. TBS released an orchid frag around the same time BBW’s Enchanted Orchid came out. TBS Apple Blossom launched close to BBW’s Irresistable Apple, and then there was TBS’s take on Japanese Cherry Blossom. And now we’ve got P. S. I Love You from BBW and Love Etc. from TBS. Hmmm…

I loved TBS back in the day because they were uncompromisingly different and environmentally conscious, not terribly expensive, and good at what they did. Their single note perfume oils were fantastic, as was their bath and body products. I used to love their Pink Grapefruit body mist, Raspberry Ripple bubble bath and Coffee body butter from the mid to late 90’s.

Now I get the feeling they’re trying to compete with BBW though their professed company ethics are quite different. I’ve found myself shopping less and less from them as they discontinue many of my favorites (Tea Rose, Marinus, Japanese Musk, Oceanus, Fuzzy Peach, the scrumptious version of Vanilla they once carried) and am truly hoping they don’t fiddle with their original White Musk or else I’m outta there. :(

This sounds pretty enough, but not pretty enough for me to get to my nearest TBS in any sort of haste to give it a try.

Yeah. The company that currently reminds me most of the “old” TBS is Lush, although the focus is somewhat different.

AS: I find that specific feedback really interesting, because, to be honest, I haven’t been in a BS for years (and the one in my town vacated 2-3 years ago) and I’ve been in a BBW maybe once or twice. So it’s just a feeling I have. I mean, maybe this “clone” thing is a very well thought out branding strategy. It just doesn’t seem like a successful one because you (with much specific knowledge of the the products) and I (with barely any) both don’t see much that differentiates TBS from its primary competition.

miss kitty v, I was able to grab a half ounce bottle of Fuzzy Peach for more than half price when it got the ax and have been considering mixing some with a bit of vodka or alcohol to make my own “perfume” as well as to make the oil last longer. Their Mango (also discontinued, surprise surprise) is also just delicious and I’m glad I got a one ounce bottle of that one. It should last for years. :)

Robin, I have been curious about trying Lush since that’s the same vibe I get from them as well. I mean they practically beat you over the head with it. But there’s just such an overwhelming amount of product that it boggles the mind and I’ve no idea where to begin.

Joe, I think TBS’s decline has been slow but steady, and I think their attempt to be BBW’s slightly more activist and earthy big sister is a huge part of the problem. They even put out an amber scent around the holidays a couple years back that was apparently very similar to BBW’s Sensual Amber. And many of their perfume oils don’t seem to be around for as long as they once were, either, with a definite decline in staying power.

The TBS I remember focused on environmentally conscious beauty and if not activism, at least awareness of how and what goes into the making of a product. I felt good shopping there because their quality, price, and ethics were all part of what made their products and image.

The competition has even extended to an eerily similar aromatherapy range to the one Crabtree & Evelyn released around the same time. If I want BBW or C&E, I’ll *go* to BBW or C&E.

I just want my old TBS back. But like all good things (ambergris, sandalwood, citrus oils), nothing lasts forever, and the only constant is change. :(

Yes, Lush makes lots of stuff. And it isn’t as reasonably priced as TBS either. But they’ll make samples of most anything in the store!

I’ve had “West End Girls” in my head for a month! What would “West End Girls” smell like? Or “East End Boys”, for that matter? Anyhow, “Love, Etc.” I’ve noticed a specific soapy-pear note in Clean’s new “Simply Soap” (heh) and Rosie Jane’s “Leila Lou”. I wonder if that same “pear” is in this? Hmm…

I tested LOVE ETC. the other day. Does anyone remember the Spice Girls Bodyspray from way back in 1997? There you go. Fruity Floral. Fruity Floral. And then just the smallest whisper of sandalwood. A million efforts smell like this.
