Rocawear X by Rocawear ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 24 August 2009 26 Comments

rocawear-x

Jay-Z's Rocawear brand will launch X by Rocawear Anniversary Edition,  a new limited edition fragrance for men, next month:

Celebrating 10 years of changing the game. Rocawear introduces X, an addictive scent that blends the sexy, authentic, masculine elements of the brand with an intriguing fragrance built around a distinctive and rare black tea accord.

I'll update with more detailed notes when I can find them.

Rocawear X will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette. (via rocawear)

Update: the notes feature goji berries, pomelo, lime, lapsang souchong, eucalyptus, black amber, guaiac, cedar and musk. (via elizabetharden)

Black tea? Well there’s that going for this fragrance, at least. Throw in some mint, or lemon and a bit of sugar and we’ll talk. ;)

Is black tea a rare accord?? Really? sorry, but does Lipton know?

maybe it’s a rare, super-secret black tea, known only to Rappers…
it kind of makes me think that the copy writers had no idea what to say, sitting across a conference table looking blankly from each other to a blank notepad…tapping pencils nervously and clearing their throats …until someone suggests in a tiny voice..”what about, you know…rare black tea?….” “yeah, that’s good someone write that down… “

Trying now to remember what fragrance I read about recently that included “rare galbanum”….must have been from the same copywriting team ;-)

“Addictive” is the new black, apparently. Rocawear X is “an addictive scent”, Paul Smith Man was “truly addictive”, Estee Lauder Sensuous had “addictive honey”, Thierry Mugler Innocent Rock was “a totally addictive fragrance”….

    Enough already!

Also, I thought the original Rocawear men’s scent was cheap junk and I don’t imagine this will be any different. bet it will sell like hotcakes, though.

Oh! And wanted to ask you — can this sentence possibly be ok? It’s from the New Yorker:

In 2004, Musk, who was interested in developing an electric car, met an engineer named Martin Eberhard, proposed to build a sports car with a lithium-ion battery.

I think a “who” was left out somewhere.
I expect better from the New Yorker but I guess everyone is suffering.

It is REALLY rare that I notice an editing problem in the NYer. It always shocks me when I do.

Yeah, you need to say “who proposed…”, or else it doesn’t make any sense. And you’re right: it’s incredibly rare to find a typo or a grammatical error in The New Yorker. I suppose even their standards are slipping these days: the New York Times used to be a bastion of correctness and now they’re just incredibly sloppy. I blame computers, or rather the people who think that running a piece of copy through a spellchecker is the same as having it professionally copy-edited by a human being.

Hope & pray the NYer is not going under. I could live w/o the NYT before I could live without the NYer.

Some inept salesman thrust a sample of Rocawear ‘s 9 IX into my hand last time I was at the Myer in Sydney. I went to give it back and said, “what’s this?” “It’s new!” the dude barked. “Yeah, what is it?” I said. “It’s for men!” was his response, so I rolled my eyes and put it in my pocket. Later at home I pulled it out, thought that it was called Gix on account of its stupid graphic design, sprayed it on my arm and almost barfed at the synthetic melon tsunami it released, and promptly scrubbed it off. So yeah, not going for this one.

Hey — it is a mark of my greed that the part I focused on was that they gave you a free sample! And without you even having to beg.

I’m sick of these celebrities trying to get into the perfume industry. I know some of them are really nice, but it’s sickening.

I smelt the Brown one like this, don’t recall the name, nothing special at all. I first thought it was roccobarocco… Lame.

The first one was Rocawear 9 IX.

Jay-Z signed a deal with Parlux to do a fragrance for them along with Rihanna and Kanye West. So, I guess he will be through with Elizabeth Arden, huh?

Not sure — I had assumed Rocawear would stick w/ EA, and that Jay-Z might be doing a celebrity scent under his own name w/ Parlux. The Rocawear brand in particular almost plays down the Jay-Z connection, so I don’t think that would be a problem.

Yes this will sell like hotcakes and will have an appeal to the young urban male between the ages of 18-35. I liked the original and looking forward to getting a sniff of this. The black tea accord sounds intriguing.
