Lili Bermuda Somers, Petals, South Water ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 22 July 2009 17 Comments

Lili Bermuda Somers fragrance for men

Lili Bermuda has launched three new fragrances to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Bermuda. "Each fragrance was created to evoke a different time in the Island’s history since it’s beginning."

Somers (shown above) ~ "Somers was created to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Sir George Somers taking his first step onto our fragrant Island and being enveloped in the natural odors of this picturesque paradise. This fragrance opens with refreshing notes of bergamot, Bermuda cedar and cardamon, wandering into delicious notes of licorice, black tea, nutmeg, coriander, geranium and sage. The finale is warm with gaiac wood, olivewood bark, incense, blonde suede and amber." Additional notes include grapefruit, orange blossom, ginger and vetiver. In 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

Petals ~ "Petals is a timeless fragrance beautifully crafted from the heart of Bermuda. This luminous fragrance is an alluring white floral bouquet, elegant and truly feminine. Petals is composed of night blooming honeysuckle, sparkling seringa, watery orange blossom, jasmine sambac, refreshing clementine and white musk." Additional notes include mandarin, ylang ylang and white amber. Petals is available in 15 or 30 ml Parfum, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

South Water ~ "South Water is an original, modern, unisex fragrance, which breaks the codes of traditional perfumery. South Water is a blend of sun-drenched tangerine with ozone breeze, coconut milk, juicy guava, gardenia petals, cactus sap, sea salt and white musk. The scent is sweet, and sultry, transporting you to a faraway place where the sun shines on your skin and the waves break swiftly on the shore." Additional notes include blackcurrant, aniseed, violet, orris, coumarine, vanilla and tonka bean. In 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

I think I’ve been listening to too much kpop, I thought South Waters said South Korea.

    I might like Somers possibly.

My parents visited the Bermuda Perfumery while on vacation there years ago. I was a small child then, but I was so annoyed when they didn’t bring home a single bottle of perfume! Just a bar of soap. My addiction was in evidence even then. :)

Summers sounds lovely. Petals sounds nice enough, too, but I’m not sure about the South Water frag. It sounds all right but there’s so many “aqua” frags out now… They don’t sound too bad, though, all things considered.

I’m not big on aqua scents either.

I used to spend my vacation on Bermuda every year. People there are very proud of their perfumery “Lily Bermuda”. It is a small perfume factory, they produce about 8 aromas for women and 4- 5 for men, I think.
I was given a set of perfume samples a couple of years ago, I still have them. Most of them could be described as FLORAL. I really liked the one that is not floral – PARADISE. It has notes of sandal wood and vanilla. (it is the only one sample that I used up.) If you like floral notes you should try their perfumes. A set of samples costs only 25 dollars plus shipping, I think.
I do not know if I am allowed to post the link here.
(sorry for my English – it is my 3rd language)

You’re doing better than me and it’s my ONLY language. Thanks for mentioning the sample set – I’m going to wait a bit and see if they include any of these new ones at some point.

        Thanks for your compliment.
I really wish to hear the opinion of some experienced perfumista about Bermuda perfumery’s fragrances. Although the factory was established in 1928 – its perfumes are still unknown in the US. I only find Fresh Water review on this site. And fresh Water is the least interesting smell in my opinion. (I am not a fan of citrus notes, they just smell sour for me) Fresh Water is a simple blend of Orange, Mandarin and Bergamot.

It seems like in the old days, one commemorative fragrance was enough to celebrate a country’s quadricentennial… now we have to have three?

Somers does *sound* as if it could be quite nice.

I lived in Bermuda, in Somerset, when I was a child and I’ve always wanted to go back there and haven’t made it yet. Perhaps “Somers” will hold me over til then? ;-) The notes certainly sound like they’re worth a try! I’m hoping the scent will evoke the little pink house on the beach in my memory.

I live five mins from the Lili Bda store. I went in to see if I can get samples of the new fragrance to ship to different friends. Unfortunately they only have a $25 sample set with the whole line. So I left with nothing.

Having been lurking for years I just registered in order to offer my services to try to describe the scents (not new to perfume, but new to describing it to others). I moved to Bermuda a few months ago and have tried all of the scents using testers in the shops here, but last weekend finally got round to driving over to St Georges on my scooter and visiting the perfumery. None of them are badly done and since I shortlisted about half of the line for possible purchase I bought samples of the whole line (mens and womens) for further consideration. If anyone’s interested in hearing my description/opinion of a particular fragrance in the line please let me know and I’ll do my best!
