The teaser for the upcoming commercial for Chanel No. 5, starring Audrey Tautou and Travis Davenport as a couple traveling on the Orient Express. The commercial was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Below the jump, more info from the press release and the "Making Of" video (in French), plus for anybody that missed it, the Nicole Kidman version from 2004.
From the press release:
On May 5, Chanel will launch the new Chanel No. 5 film starring French actress Audrey Tautou. Chanel approached director Jean-Pierre Jeunet to create the new Chanel film. Given complete creative freedom, Jeunet conceptualized all aspects of the film, introducing Tautou as the new muse and continuing the director/muse relationship of Baz Luhrmann/Nicole Kidman in No. 5 and Joe Wright/Keira Knightley in Coco Mademoiselle.
The film will launch on TV and on-line globally on the 5th of the 5th - the number five being a key date in the history of Chanel. ‘I launch my dress collection on the 5th of May, the fifth month of the year, so leave it to the number that it bears and this will bring it good luck’ - Mademoiselle Chanel.
Viewers can watch teasing previews of the film at www.chaneln5.com which is live today.
Here is the "Making Of":
And lastly, the 2004 commercial starring Nicole Kidman, directed by Baz Luhrmann:
what a beautiful beginning! Audrey Tatou is still Amelie Poulin to me…no matter how many other characters she plays. Can’t wait to see the rest of this romantic film. Thank you for showing this to us 🙂
I think she will always be Amelie to many!
I’m curious to see this short “movie”.
I loved the old chanel n° 5 commercial with Little Red Riding Hood – as much as I found the Nicole kidman ads soooo dull.
BTW, when I was a college student, I loved to go “interrail” (it was different back then!) during summer vacations. At the end of a beautiful, tiring trip through eastern europe, I found myself in Budapest, last stop before going back home. But then, at the station, I saw the “Orient Express” – destinationation: Paris. Of course I hopped on the OE, direction city of lights.
Well, it was just a train like any other international european train – no hercule Poirot, no investigations, no beautiful old furnish – but of course finding myself in Paris was rewarding enough!!!
Well, that’s it – I miss those light-hearted years…
I found the Nicole Kidman ad funny in all the wrong places…not my favorite from Chanel.
I would have liked to have been on the Orient Express in its heyday, as would anybody…but lucky you to have been on it at all!
apparently now there is a “vintage-feel” orient express again. I suppose the prices go accordingly…
On that train I would wear a BIG oriental, or some leather classic, rather than Chanel n°5…
At the time of my trip I guess my smell was much “muskier”, for the lack of better word ;)…
Wouldn’t that be fun? Sure I couldn’t afford it.
I guess that’s an interesting “teaser” but to me it just looked like a bunch of raw footage taped together.
The “Making of” was much more interesting, even though I did not understand a word of it.
For some reason, I assumed you spoke French. Just watched “Making of”… is that Olivier Martinez? Love him (Horseman on the Roof).
Gracious no…and you should hear me say a few fragrance names, it’s quite comical! Have learned a fair amount of written “perfume French” so I don’t need to translate everything I read in a fragrance announcement, but other than that, nada. Or however you say nada in French 😉
Oh, and no, it’s some British model…Travis Davenport.
Hi. I think the idea here is “discover” the myth”. Two legends together: L’Express Orient and Chanel nº 5. And a travel for unveil the perfume. Basic. They need people wishing to “discover” the myth of Chanel 5…
and buyin it.
I am fan of Tatou, Jeunet and Chanel, but I guess it will be not the best Chanel at all.
I don’t know…it might be! I don’t care for the trailer, but that doesn’t mean the final commercial won’t be good, right?
