(many thanks to Kevin for the GQ & Details info!)
talking of perfume in magazines…….has anyone read one of Sophie Dahl’s perfume articles in UK Vogue? I was frankly a little disappointed. But I’m reserving too harsh a judgement until I’ve read a few more, as perhaps she’s easing herself into it…….but so far, the articles and reviews on this website are infinitely more interesting and informative, and you should all be employed by Vogue and paid hundreds of dollars.
I haven’t…don’t get to see UK Vogue. But I would not want to work for Vogue — rather stay here & be able to say what I like!
I don’t know who Blake Lively is, but if the team who did the cover of Allure intended to make her look whey-faced and hideous, well, mission accomplished.
I don’t know why Zac Efron was photographed to make him look like a bobblehead doll, but it certainly seems as if they attached a big oversized head to a teeny matchstick body.
If this is a new trend in magazine covers, making the subjects look strange, perhaps with the aim of generating buzz, then I don’t like it.
I don’t know who she is either, but she looks ghastly, and Zac Efron looks like an idiot, although must admit I’ve heard of him but don’t know what he looks like at home.
I agree with you, pyramus. Blake Lively is actually a really lovely girl (she’s on that show Gossip Girl) but Allure has decided to go for the “smoky eye” look yet again and they’ve made a fresh-faced young girl look tired, haggard and three times her age. Stephen Marais was her makeup artist, someone whose avant garde work I used to love. I had hope for Allure when they showed Julia Roberts on their cover with a minimal, fresh, beachy look. I thought they were turning over a new leaf – but evidently not. On the plus side, I was excited about so much fragrance coverage in this months issue.
Agree. That Allure cover is bad, bad, bad.
Yes, much more perfume coverage, at least for that! Oddly few scent strips though, & was surprised to see how many were in the men’s mags.
You all are saying just what the Fug Girls of the Go Fug Yourself blog said the other say. Horrible Blake Lively, and Zac Efron Bobblehead. Funny. Great minds….
And I thought heroin chic was dead. Silly me. No makeup artist in his/her right mind would want to show young, pretty things as young and pretty; I mean, where’s the art in that?
And *thank you* Kevin and Robin for letting me know Eric Bana’s on the cover of this month’s Details. Will be stopping by Border’s tonight to see if it’s available. Yum!
Sorry, maybe I should have posted that cover instead of Zac Efron.
No problem, Robin. Zac Efron is a cutie, although even saying that makes me feel like a “cougar”. lol No need to indulge my Eric Bana obsession, but thanks anyway! 😀
Zac Efron may be cute, but Eric Bana is a certified hunk of HOTTIE.
Amen to that!
I love Zac Efron!!!!!!
He should come out with a cologne, I’d buy it probably (probably not, actually)
Doesn’t do anything for me, but for once at least I know who he is.
Regarding the “Smell This” feature in Allure-the emphasis is obviously on kitchy comments meant to impress for their quirkyness. Comments such as “It’s not something that should be worn to the gym” or “It reminds me of my mother’s linen closet” are humorous and meant to be entertaining, not informative. This is precisely why this site exists- for those of us who are passionate about fragrance in our lives.
It’s true — they don’t pick the statements for their passion for fragrance!
I might be getting the two confused, but my boyfriend has a current subscription with Details and used to also get GQ, and it seems like Details has consistent and informative fragrance coverage. They cover niche as well as some mainstream and really seem to pick out the best of the best for men (oftentimes). Wish there was the equivalent for women in a major magazine. Sometimes Elle and Vogue do frag coverage, but not to the extent of Details.
Allure usually has the most fragrance coverage of the US magazines — it’s the only reason I subscribe — but it’s been pretty sparse lately.
