As per usual I find the notes in the Man's fragrance more attractive. At least the pepper is black and there are no litchis

Mexx usually smells just like a chemical to me, my nose starts to itch and that's it, scrub scrub scrub …

The manager of the Sephora near me told me there are practically NO sales, people wander in, sniff and leave.

One would think they'd have some launches around Valentine's Day, the one day they may actually sell something. You know, couples buying for each other and singles buying for themselves, to feel better :-D

Nothing says “black” to me in either of those descriptions – neither sounds very interesting or distinctive either.

It is so odd to release fragrances called “Black Man” and “Black Woman” with only white people in the ads.

So much for my hopes of the Germans being a little more daring with their offerings.

I kinda like the ad…. because of the fact they look happy and nice, there's no sleazy cleavage or raunchy sex or the usual bored looking woman with dominant male…..

I've never smelled anything from Mexx, wonder if we can get it in Oz?

they saved the raunchy sex for their website!

The woman is on top though…

    Mexx is Dutch, I think

their homepage is a picture of a couple having sex in a bathtub, that's kind of daring!!

Oops, you're right. They're also apparently a subsidiary of Liz Claiborne.

But every brand has to have a “Black” fragrance.

Shiny, true — it's pretty clean, isn't it? Don't know where to get Mexx in the US either.

I don't really see why you would make a perfume called Black a fruity floral. That is not at all what I think of when I think sexy and elegant. Might just be me but!

No, it's not just you. Sorry Mexx, anything with litchi and peony in it is not “black”.

And yes, I am feeling cranky today.

But almost none of the many, many fragrances called Black bother to make the juice anything you'd think of as black…

The essential oil (usually referred to as tagetes) doesn't smell that much like the fresh flower :-)

That's true, but I guess that when I hear Black in the name, I expect the juice to be more like Bvlgari black or at least be a “night time” fragrance. This sounds like something aimed at teenage girls.

Romance has marigold it and it smells wonderful

But what do I know? I'm buying Lilly Pulitzer's new Wink fragrance unsniffed. I'm doing it because it has freesia Lilly, rose, fresh garden (?), pear nectar, violet woods, peony I think, amber and musk. It's like they made it just for me! I would have added some ginger and cashmere woods, or maybe ivy. I think it would be a great office scent.

Some critics gave it a thumbs up. Ugh, where are there samples?

I think that they sell only in the Mexx stores, right at the register (so that you can't have the time to smell them by yourself without a SA trying to pressure you into buying…).

I think the Mexx line is geared pretty young. And you're right about Bvlgari Black — it lives up to its name. But most don't!

Mexx is a mid-range brand of clothing, somewhat akin to Zara and Jigsaw, focusing on basic separates. I have a camel A-line skirt and a cream top from Mexx stores (Switzerland and Poland respectively) which have served me well! That said, I don't consider the brand to be chic enough in my eyes to attract me to their scent, any more than I would wish to investigate Mango perfume, say.
