Posted by Robin on 4 December 2008 28 Comments

Soivohle Honeysuckle Bird fragranceSoivohle' (formerly Liz Zorn) has launched two new fragrances, Honeysuckle Bird and Tobacco & Tulle:

Honeysuckle Bird (shown) ~ "This is a reintroduction of a scent that was first created for a bride. It has been updated and refined. A lovely blend of Honeysuckle notes paired with Lily of The Valley. Just the slightest hint of Jasmine and Linden blossom, with a bright opening of Bergamot and Green Grass, and a soft ambery base, of Labdanum Tolu and Musk." Honeysuckle Bird joins the Moderne collection, and is available in 12 ml Parfum.

Tobacco & Tulle ~ "...otherwise known as the Reluctant Existentialist, An Homage to Albert Camus, This scent combines Tobacco and Tuberose Absolutes with natural animal and botanical musks. Notes include: Ambrette Seed, Tonka Bean, Cumin, Cassis, Valerian, Jasmine Absolute, Sweet Almond, Rose, Guiac, Cedar and Orris Butter. Animal notes: Cruelty Free, Hyrax Tincture, Beach Harvested Ambergris. Also contains a small amount of natural green oakmoss." Tobacco & Tulle joins the Natural Collection, and is available in 4.5 or 15 ml Parfum.

Tobacco & Tulle interests me. Wondering about the beach harvested Ambergris, however. Worth a sample, I think. I have read good things about Liz Zorn.

Could be! I've never smelled hyrax (hyraceum) that I know of.

Love a lot of Liz Zorn's fragrances. Why she changed the name to something hard to remember escapes me, and I hope it doesn't cost her sales. (I thought it was a Gaelic word, but it's the acronym for Sending Out Inspired Vibrations Of Healthy Loving
Energy). Both of these sound lovely in different ways, but the tobacco and tulle is another example of her incredible ability to conjure up amazing combinations of scents.

I suppose I am pretty much obligated to purchase Tobacco & Tulle.

This is out of place, but in a quest to find a spicy floral, I was wondering about clove and cinnamon and_________.

I don't care for cardamon and cumin or what every notes are in Youthdew, Opium and such fragrances. I think I mean heavy orientals.I think I like clove, cinnamon and mint. What else is a spice note? That would render a perfume sexy spicy, but is …cleaner?

I apologize for my lack of knowledge,

    Becca

Tobacco & Tulle sounds intriguing. I just went to her website and despite several I want I needs there her Jo Jo and Ankara sound lovely in my search for a coffee fragrance. Has anyone tried them?

    Becca,

A custom scent might be an option for you? Or mix scents, like Montale's Vanille Absolu (vanilla, clove & cinnamon) with L' Artisan's Voleur de Roses (bergamont, rose, plum patchouli)

Maybe pepper or pink pepper? Pink pepper esp. is a clean spicy note. And how about saffron, which is in lots of fragrances lately?

Thank you Robin and SFLizbeth. I don't know what saffron smells like. I do like pepper, and also heavy amber and most musk. I don't know what is in Youthdew that makes me want to scrub myself with a Brillo pad. I also like woods, except heavy cedar or pine smells..la de pine-sol. I'm a floral gal, except for Bulgari Black. Strange isn't it?

I want to expand my horizons and not be such a stick. There is something in Fifi Chachnil, that smells like burning tires….coriander? See I don't know what is offending, so it makes it hard to try something new. I didn't like Chamade and I thought it was a can't miss. I worry it might be the galb……? Can't spell it, supposed to be a green note which I normally like.

Is there a note education tool, Robin? And to be fair, the dry-down on Fifi is a beautiful powdery rose.

I also got a connection from Basenotes? some link, where they will make a fragrance for you and you pick your notes for, get this-$35.00. In order of strength, You say:

    1Bergomot

    1pomeganite

    2Amber

    2 Eygyption musk

    3-Freesia

    3-Rose

But I can't remember the link. Do you know what I am talking about? Or did I dream this?

Sorry to prattle on, I'm guilty.

    Clueless in Wichita,

    Becca

That sounds an awful lot like Creative Scentualization's website to me. Does that ring a bell?

I've tried JoJo, which is a floral with a coffee in the mid-notes.

It was interesting, but I'm not a floral fan, and I decided I'd rather drink coffee than wear it.

But that's me and it might be wonderful for you. It has the feel of drinking coffee on a lush tropical garden. At night. Not alone. Sorry, I got carried away there.

No, that's not it. It's one one the big four, Basenotes, Bois de Jasmine, or the other one I'm spacing out on….Perfume Smelling things, or here.

Ah Ha! I have found it. It is perfume raffy. You can also buy samples of different notes for $1 to experiment with. They don't have some of the obscure scents.

I think you are my Evil Fragrance Twin! It's galbanum, which I love. You might want to stay way from Bandit and Jolie Madame. If you remember that like where they mix to order for $35, and let us all know, I think they'll get a lot of business, even in this economy.

I'm awaiting a samp of Tobacco and Tulle – I have Ankhara – it's lovely. Sort of reminds me of Femme (the new Femme as opposed to vintage). I don't get much in the way of coffee, sorry, but that could just be me. I have a lingering sinus infection, to the point where Calyx and Fracas don't smell like much (those of you who know those fragrances know this means the infection is, indeed, tenacious:-).

You should try her sample set – you can make up your own samp box – that's what I did for a friend who loves big white florals. It was a lot of fun choosing the scents and the presentation is lovely.

Hope your sinus infection is better soon, that's rough going when you can't smell Fracas!
