Michael Kors Very Pretty ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 21 October 2008 24 Comments

Michael Kors Very Pretty fragranceMichael Kors has launched Michael Kors Very Pretty, a new limited edition flanker to 2003's Sheer Michael (which was itself a flanker to 2000's Michael by Michael Kors fragrance):

For the pure glamour of it...Micheal Kors Very Pretty is an indulgent, floral interpretation of the original Michael Kors Sheer fragrance. Jasmine, Bergamot, and Sandalwood add seriously seductive dimensions to the classic Michael Kors essence. Experience a decadent new twist on tuberose layered with creamy florals, exotic spices, and the taming touch of Moroccan incense. This fragrant creation will capture the heart of every woman with its alluring personality. Adorned with Swarovski crystals and packaged in a sparkle-kissed folding carton, the new limited-edition Very Pretty evokes absolute luxury.

The notes include freesia, tamarind, osmanthus, incense, tuberose, violet, peony, orange blossom, gardenia, orris, arum lilies, coconut, cashmere woods, musk, vetiver, bergamot, sandalwood and jasmine.

Michael Kors Very Pretty is available in 50 ml Eau de Parfum for $75. (quote via sephora, additional information via wwd)

Other recent launches from Michael Kors: Island Bermuda.

The notes sounds good, but the bottle and the name didn't entice me to pick it up when I saw it the other day. I kinda figured that if it was named “Very Pretty” it was trying too hard to convince me of something that couldn't be true.

…because the original wasn't floral enough? 🙂 Or indulgent (read, strong) enough?

I didn't either! And while I'd agree with “weird diseased sea creature skin”, still, thought it looked kind of cool & unusual until I read they were crystals.

I don't think the bottle matches the name “very pretty”

LOL — exactly! But “Very Pretty” will probably sell more bottles than “Sea Slug”.

    lame-o.

I really liked the original but this screams “trying too hard!” along with the sparkle kissed folding carton.

Are those crystals supposed to be champagne bubbles?? The incense, sandalwood & vetiver notes pique my interest, but the name is, quite sadly, very off-putting. It sounds like a flanker to Victoria's Secret Very Sexy… Very Pretty. Or Cartier's So Pretty de Cartier.

You could be right, but I haven't smelled it yet 🙂

If the crystals are supposed to resonate w/ the juice in some way, it's lost on me. And agree on VS, LOL…

I've only seen the lab samples, so I can't comment on the bottle. I will say Very Pretty has some similarities to MK, but the in-your-face tuberose/gardenia and waxiness is gone. It's much more wearable than MK and I think it's going to do well for casual day wearers.

I actually think this sounds pretty nice so must try it when it shows up at my local department store. I didn't realise that they were crystals also and was more interested in the bottle when I thought that they were bubbles in the glass.

But is it all that different than MK Sheer? Although have to admit I've only tried the Sheer once & can't remember just how sheer it was…

It's different from the Sheer. More floral, less tuberose, and the bergomot is pronounced in the top note.

My god, this sounds gorgeous! Seriously. Bubbles vs. crystals aside, the incense/tuberose thing was very well done with the original MK — it's a massively intense, sillage-y scent and a light hand is mandatory — and this sounds like quite an original, prettied-up take on it, and no less sophisticated. Hope it smells as good as it sounds.

Osmanthus, Freesia, Coconut, Tuberose, Gardenia, Jasmine, Vetiver, AND SANDALWOOD!?!??! OH MY GOOD LORD! SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM COME TRUE! Loved the original Michael (cant smell it without thinking of my Sweetheart of a dear departed Sister who wore it for a long time when she was married to a man named Michael! 🙂 ) and still do love anything Michael Kors Touches! so i am not only Salivating I am Chomping at the bit to smell this! Coconut is so underused in Fragrance (as well as Lotus!) and I just simply ADORE the scent of Coconut in anything but it is extra Incredible in perfume!

I don't care how feminine this might smell, I might just have to wear this Simply Amazing sounding scent myself! GO MR. KORS!

Hey now that sounds very pretty. I want it except the name. Couldn't they get better marketing? or is the name itself the marketing? very pretty, very sexy, very elite, very edgy, very different, very fancy, very pretentious …. what ever. Fire the marketing. Pretty would have been a better name.

I'm glad they changed the tuberose but kept the incense. I like MK the perfume, but the EDT doesn't have enough of the incense to counterbalance the flower. I layer it with Demeter's Cinnamon Toast and it's good AND fun….go figure.

    -JOY,

    Becca

I smell…an impulse purchase coming. I really like my MK, but always wished it had a little less tuberose and a little more incense. I love the notes in this. I'll just buy it and call it… “Pretty” by MK, it's only a white lie. ; – D

Oh Robin, I was going to buy En Passant. I am worried about the “bread note”. Can you really smell bread? or does it just support the notes somehow, How? I'm worried I'll smell yeast rolls. I would hate for one note to prevent me from getting a classic romantic scent.

    Thanks and joy

    Becca

Really, you won't smell like yeast rolls at all, but I don't think I'd buy En Passant unsniffed — too pricey to take a chance!
