Kilian Hennessy's By Kilian brand will launch the seventh fragrance in the L’Oeuvre Noire / Black Masterpiece series this coming September. Prelude to Love is a unisex fragrance exploring the theme of "Love and its prohibitions”...
...an olfactory memory of a first encounter…
As a splash of crimson blossoms across the cheeks and hearts beat wildly, a refined yet bold bouquet of the noblest citrus soothes and refreshes mounting sensations of exhilaration. The sweetness of bergamot, the delicacy of Seville orange and the brightness of lemon swirl into a spiral of seduction, an invitation to love.
Intense ginger and pepper pierce the heart of the fragrance, imbued with neroli and orange blossom, disclosing a subtle undercurrent of intent. From this emerges the crowning note, the irresistible Iris of Florence whose majesty sweeps away all inhibitions.
By Kilian Prelude to Love was developed by perfumer Calice Becker, who created four of the original six scents in the series. Like the earlier scents, Prelude to Love will be available in a 50 ml refillable bottle. (via bykilian) Update: see a review of By Kilian Prelude to Love.
I see Iris and I say “I WANT!!!”
Denyse over at GraindeMusc said that the iris was prevalent, and I have high hopes that this will be the By Killian for me. Are you going to have early access to it?
Let's hope the juice isn't as overwrought as the ad copy. “As a splash of crimson blossoms across the cheeks and hearts beat wildly” indeed! Sounds like they need a Harlequin Romance cover artist for the graphics.
Yep, same here — love iris. We'll see if I can wrangle a sample.
DCDavid, the line specializes in overwrought ad copy, but the first 6 fragrances were very well done, although I didn't fall in love with a single one of them.
LOL — Cigarette in Hand would be a great name for a fragrance, wouldn't it?
If it was Etat Libre d'Orange it would probably be “Who sleeps in the wet spot?”
I totally agree. They were rich and well done, but their art is in the blending and as such didn't go enough in any single direction to make a very strong first impression. I find it easier to get to know a new line when they introduce a few bold scents (CdG leaves) before introducing more subtle or conceptual variations (CdG Colognes and Incense series).
HA — good one!
I think that's exactly right…I found it hard to keep them straight even after I'd tried all of them a couple times. The tuberose scent was the only one that really resonated with me, and even that one seemed beautiful without being compelling. I know others love the line though.
I was fortunate enough to receive a 15ml sampler bottle and must say, this is my new favorite of the line. You can smell a little of Love By Kilian in this one, but its brighter and not sweet like Love. I do have a really hard time identifying notes in this one. I also own A Taste of Heaven, which i love on myself, i owned Love and sold it, not because i did not like it but it did not stand out. Prelude to Love is wonderful……..still a steep price $225
I'm seething with jealousy over your generous sample! Tell me, can you detect the iris? I want it to be a strong note…
Claudia, sounds lovely, look forward to trying it!
The name was given to me as Prelude to Love / Invitation, so there is a pairing off system here too. I could never figure out why they needed two names for their scents, it makes it even harder to keep them straight! I quite liked this one, love the tuberose, but how many tuberoses does a girl need?
Yes, it's expansive but it's nice, like most of the iris fragrances on the market.
This one reminds me of Pierre de Lune with a sweet and powdery aspect. Very nice, light and poetic. Thank you Killian!
To me the Iris is not predominent, its a lot like Love, not as sweet though, much fresher, this is my new favorite from the By Kilian line. Now on you you may smell more of the Iris. All i can say I LOVE IT
just got this and love it. i have the travel atomizer and got a refill pack of this so it will be easy to travel with. it’s a lovely scent, very romantic.
