Lots of citrus topnotes everywhere. Not that I mind, but still…

I have my mind set on Caleche Eau Delicate, also an 'eau' of a classic fragrance but a more conservative kind of 'eau', sort of.

It seems like there are many companies trying to rival the success of Pink sugar…I read about the new Shalimar in Feb. Allure, but they said little about it. I wonder if it will be anything like Shalimar Light.

I love Caleche Eau Delicate, hope this one is as nice!

Shalimar Light is a great scent! Hard to see why they'd need this one too, sort of? Maybe it is less closely related to Shalimar?

The third scent in five days that has a marshmallow note!
I think I can guess what's going on. Chemists at Firmenich or IFF or some such came up with a new marshmallow accord–let's call it Mallowan–and have been aggressively peddling it to all and sundry (gotta pay for R&D somehow). I think we can expect to see a lot more of this particular note in the coming months.

    Hope so too..;)

Sandalwood and cedarwood are my favorite basenotes, so whenever a new scent has those two or at least sandalwood as a basenote, then there is a fifty percent chance that I will really like the scent.

Read somewhere that sandalwood is becoming rare and that the perfume industry is looking for alternatives. To me that will be as sad as the lack of oakmoss is for others.

But is Shalimar Light still available / in production at all? Or is Eau de Shalimar it's successor? (BTW: I love, love, love Shalimar Light!)

Real sandalwood is now very rare, and some perfumers feel it is irresponsible to use anything other than synthetic — which given the situation, is just fine with me.

I really don't know. Wasn't Shalimar Light always a limited edition? It isn't listed on the Guerlain website, but don't know if that is meaningful.

“Victoria's Secret has introduced More Pink Please, a new limited edition fruity floral fragrance”
This opening sentence for this new scent made me laugh out loud in such a violent manner that my partner ran into the room in a panic as he thought I was throwing up!
Was there ever a more fitting trinity that “Victoria's Secret” + “More Pink Please” + “Fruity Floral”?
Trawling through fragrance blogs at the end of last year perfumistas every where seemed to be begging for more interesting scents, no more fruity florals and an end to the “pink” phase in the perfume mass market. Um, don't think it's a great start for that wish. Maybe this is a last hurrah for pink fruity florals!

Will be happy with a synthetic version just like they do with musk, as long as the sandalwoodnote does not disappear completely.

I love frankincense too, so sensual.

LOL — all true enough, but I do think we've seen lots more interesting scents over the past 6 months or so. It would be too much to hope that the pink fruity florals would cease entirely.

I believe we're already seeing (smelling!) a number of synthetic versions of sandalwood, so don't think the aroma will disappear.

“Dream of Pink” and “More Pink Please” ?!?!?
No. No more pink. Please. ;-)
Does ANYONE recycle their frags more than Guerlain? I too wonder how this will fit in w/Shalimar Light, which I think used to be at duty-frees and isn't any more… and I thought Shalimar Eau Legere was yet a *different* light Shalimar, but perhaps the fumes have gotten to my brain…

No. More. Fruity. Florals. Enough is enough! I'm intrigued by the new Shalimar though and looking forward to sniffing it. Shamimar itself doesn't do much for me. And I agree with everyone re sandalwood – if it's there, to me, the scent is worth trying!

Ummm. . .didn't we just have a pink fruity floral yesterday? Or six times this week? *Lapses back into fruity-floral induced coma* Wake me when it's over.

Robin what is the difference between a natural spray and eau de toilette? Have bought Caleche Eau Delicate today :-D but it is a natural spray… Is there no alcohol involved or is it just lighter than the EdT? The girl in the store hardly spoke any English and I don't speak any Czech… you bet I cannot live without this blog!

Natural spray, I am pretty sure, has nothing to do with the concentration at all. It just means it isn't an aerosol — pretty meaningless.

I keep meaning to do a count, but actually, I think YSL wins in the recycling department. Guerlain is up there in the top ranks though.

I thought Shalimar Eau Legere & Light were the same thing? But they released them twice as LE, and didn't Luca Turin write someplace that the formula changed in the interim? Memory dead, that is the best I can do.

LOL — seriously, you don't want to sleep that long. We need to give them their own category on the blog so people can just skip over them.

That's the thing — I thought I read (either Luca Turin or Victoria?) that Legere and Light smelled different, although I can't actually *find* that anywhere … hey, this is how web rumors get started, eh? And also I might be losing my mind but I thought at some pt I looked on eBay and there were both bottles labeled “Legere” and “Light”, but even that wouldn't mean the stuff inside smelled different. And you are right, YSL recycles a lot!

Mathilde Laurent created the excellent first version, Shalimar Eau Legere Parfumee. It was meant to be a limited edition but did so well that Jean-Paul himself tweaked it and it was re-released the next summer as Shalimar Light (2004). So, yes, they do smell slightly different. All the notes are “done light” versus the original Shalimar, so even those who have never been fans might be charmed by the newer version. As for the exact concentration of the new “Eau”, I will know more in 2 weeks and will report back if appropriate. And yes, Luca Turin did discuss the merits of Shalimar Light in his now-defunct blog. Darn! It was a fabulous blog.

Loved Shalimar waaaaay back when, can't wear it anymore, think that Shalimar Light is a beautiful — dare I say improved — rendition of the original, and am very much looking forward to trying Eau de Shalimar. Thank you, Guerlain.

I think it is heresy to say Shalimar Light improved Shalimar, LOL — but I'll agree it is much easier to wear!

I now have the information on Eau de Shalimar: it's a Limited Edition EDT 50 ml spray for $74 Can. It is by Jean-Paul Guerlain. The olfactory family is called “Fresh Gourmand” and it has orange, bergamot and lime, rose and jasmine, vanilla and powdery iris notes. While never a fan of Shalimar, I could always truly understand why it has its devotess. I preferred the new Shalimar Light but still found it too “Shalimary”. BUT this Eau de Shalimar is right up my alley due to the lime! I really like it! Dyed-in-the-wool Shalimarites will prefer their extract to this but younger people will probalby like the new Eau de Shalilmar.

Not sure I'll like it if it is less “Shalimary”, but we'll see — thanks for the info!

I bought “More Pink Please” unsniffed & it arrived today. (I shouldn't go on Ebay; I have to 'win' whatever I've seen).

It's nothing like what I thought it would be like. Lots of light florals & amber. I can't seperate the fruit notes & I can't pick up on the vanilla either.

I like it & it's perfect for spring.

What is happening to VS? My favorite scent is VS Body which is classy, original and on the opposite side of the scent category from fruity. They used to release more sophisticated fragrances for adults, not children. Is our world only populated now by 14 year olds? What happened to the rest of the market?
