Caron will relaunch Montaigne, a fragrance for women introduced in 1986 and named for Avenue Montaigne, the address of one of Caron's boutiques in Paris. The reintroduction, scheduled for September, is meant to boost Caron's feminine fragrance business, which currently accounts for only 25% of sales (men's fragrance accounts for 60%).
Montaigne is a spicy fruity floral with notes of jasmine, bitter orange, coriander, mandarin, daffodil, mimosa, cassie, sandalwood, benzoin and vanilla.
Caron Montaigne, currently available in Parfum and Eau de Toilette, will be relaunched in Parfum (25 ml) and Eau de Parfum (30, 50 & 100 ml). (via cosmeticnews, additional information via escentual.co.uk)
I'm amazed that women's fragrances account for only 25% of Caron's sales. Did I read that correctly?! And if then men's fragrances are 60%, then the remaining 15% must be Caron's cosmetics (those lovely powders!) and gift items such as the Limoges boxes…? Interesting.
I was very surprised too, and wonder if they meant to specify US-sales only? Because that would be less surprising, given how few stores carry Caron at all in the US.
I don't really understand this – Montaigne (which, even though I'm definitely in the non-floral camp, I like very much) is available, even here in Zurich, so what exactly are they relaunching? Relaunching, after all, implies that it was discontinued, which it obviously wasn't. Hmmmm…… this will take some head-scrathing.
It is still available, but in limited distribution. I'd guess they are going to try to advertise, and to get it into mainstream stores in the US.
I received it yesterday from a friend at Caron. The scent is gorgeous. Ambery, floral with aldehydic hues. They relaunch it in a new bottle that was the perfume (extrait) flacon. They also want to propose it in a wider selection of p o s : for the moment it's rather confidential. Though it's actually the leader in women's fragrances for the brand, and though they have almost 30 feminine scents, men's sales represent 65 to 70 %.
I also smelled the Lancome Cuir. Quite nice!

Good to know, thanks! They are barely distributed in the US at all, so no idea when it will get here other than at the NY boutique.
